Excuse my rant, but I have to get this off my chest. This post is a polite reply to all the many emails I get from brands and PRs trying to get me to provide some form of free advertisement. I DON’T WORK FOR FREE.
Fashion and Style Police is my baby, I dedicate a lot of my time and money to keep it running, I won’t provide any sort of advertising on my blog in exchange for retweets, shout-outs or exposure, I am going to need other forms of compensation. I am unable to pay my bills with retweets or social media shout-outs unfortunately. Would you go to the grocery shop and offer the store manager retweets to get your weekly shopping? Will you offer your nanny exposure for her work? I bet your answer is a big fat No. So why offer me that?
I spend hours every week, writing and scheduling posts in advance, only for me to keep receiving annoying emails from brands/PRs, trying to get me to do more work, that will benefit them more than it would benefit me, for free. I know many bloggers work for free, or for peanuts but I am not one of those bloggers. Working for free tells a lie about what you are worth. I know what I am worth, and I know what you are worth so let’s keep it real. I refuse to devalue myself and my blog. I am happy to help small and upcoming brands, but when the luxury brands tell me they have no budget, that really gets to me. I wonder if they would work for free.
Rant over, back to work.

I like getting free stuff sent to me but I usually dont sign contracts to make mine own rate. None of the things sent me that are asked by email require me to do reviews or anything either. How does a beauty blogger do this when stuff is just sent to them in the mail.?
You mean you just receive stuffs from brands? How did they get your address? I usually discuss the terms via email before giving out my address.
I just get an email that they would like to send me items and they ask for my address. However I am not required to do anything at least I have not been asked to showcase or write a review.
OK that’s fine then. You can decide what you want to do. As long as the brand’s don’t make any requests.

This is a very good point. Some bloggers don’t word this quite as well and they come across as greedy for expecting to be paid (though I know that’s not the case!) your post really explains WHY they want (and need!) to be paid. I hope you can refer those brands to this post!

Many bloggers starts doing it for ‘free’ as per no cash but accept freebies. Thats somehow still payment. You were lucky if you started taking money straight away. Often bloggers need to build the following first , then ou can start ”charging”. Self respect is important but also staying save on ground and not to be overconfident. It may really push off potential brand.
