Style Icon – Prince

This post is a day overdue. I meant to write the post yesterday but I had no words. I kept staring at the blank screen, hoping the words would flow, but it just didn’t, so I gave up, thought I would just mention the death of Prince, a music and style god, on social media, and that should do. Then I had a rethink, I saw so many inspiration blog posts and articles dedicated to the legend, and I just knew I had to write a post, or leave to regret it. So here is my tribute to Prince…..

Prince Rogers Nelson first caught my eye with the song Purple Rain. There was something about that track that did it for me, and the music video, with him and his band rocking and rolling with the guitar, and there was the lady in the band crying. It was so moving, I can never forget that music video. I have been loving Prince since then, and Purple Rain, is still one of my favourite tracks today. Apart from his amazing talent as a singer and songwriter, he is also a multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actor, and a style icon. His style had no filter, he was stylishly unapologetic with his big hair, frilly lace tops, hip-hugging bell-bottoms, and makeup. However, the best part of his style was that he owned it every time. I found his self confidence very inspiring.

Speaking of Fashion being Art yesterday; Prince was the definition of Art! He had Art written all over him.

It is sad to come to terms with the fact that we have lost another legend. He left us way too soon, but I know for a fact that just like Michael Jackson, Prince will never be forgotten. There can never ever be another Prince, but I do see a lot of him in Lenny Kravitz, Janelle Monae, and D’Angelo. Prince’s eccentric fashion sense inspired many, and his death will leave a lasting hole in the hearts of millions of people. He will continue to live through his music and we will never forget his amazing fashion sense. He changed the face of fashion and music, 2 of my greatest loves, forever.

Rest in peace Prince.

  1. I still cant get my head around it. He was my absolutely Idol, and I was lucky to see him in Birmingham May 2014. It was the best night of my life. He truly was a genius, a style maven, and the most individual person ever. The World is a sadder place without him

  2. I’m not really one to get upset when celebrities die – I don’t really have any celeb that I idolise per se, and I tend to think their deaths are no more important than anyone else’s, however I alway think of how they have influenced others and that is where the loss lies for me. I think people like Prince, David Bowie and Alan Rickman inspired people to say it was ok to be different and there really is no artist, actor or singer, than can do that now is there?

  3. This man was an absolute legend – he influenced me so much during my teen years. I first heard When Doves Cry on the radio when I was 13 or 14 and I will never forget it – or him. Such talent and such a genius. RIP Prince – gone but never, ever forgotten. Lovely tribute post. Kaz x

  4. This is such a lovely tribute post for him, I never listen to his music or had a particulary close eye to him but he seems like a man with spoken words and that touched a lot of souls. May he rest in peace.

  5. So many sad losses this year, I can’t say that I knew his work that well (only the classics) but he gave a lot back to his fans and to charities…such a sad loss!
