Many of us struggle with our body confidence every now and again. I know I struggled, especially after having my twins. And I still struggle sometimes. It is hard for us women not to worry about our looks in this very vain world. We worry about our body weight, hair, the size of our boobs, butt, nose, lips, you name it, I bet someone out there worries about it.
Over the years I have become more body confident, and I am glad to say I have reached a point where I love EVERYTHING about myself. Me getting to this point of total body acceptance took me decades to get to. It is a continuous process, and everyone can achieve this too. It is all in the mind.
Here are some tips that helped me build my body confidence:
Embrace your Flaws
The first step for me accepting and loving myself and my body was to embrace my flaws. I took a good look at myself naked and I embraced every part of my life and my body, and never looked back. It takes a certain level of courage to do this, but I did it and when I looked at myself, my flaws didn’t look like flaws anymore, they looked like ME. Once you embrace your flaws, they stop being flaws.
Know your Body
I know every nook and cranny of my body. I love walking around the house with no clothes on, whenever I get the chance to, I find it so liberating and empowering, don’t ask, lol. And I think that is why I know my body so well. You become more confident when you are in tune with your body.
Dress Stylish
I love dressing up as you can tell already. Dressing up and looking good can build your body confidence. I know for a fact it helped build mine. Show me a woman who is well dressed and has no body confidence, because I am yet to spot one.
Upgrade your Lingerie
Getting rid of the old and torn bras, and granny pants, and going for some sexy underwear can make you feel so good. You don’t have to have a partner to look good underneath the clothes. You can go all out, and splash on some good underwear just for you. I do this regularly and I know it definitely helps me feel good about myself. And good underwear helps your clothes look good on youtoo.
Pamper Yourself
Getting your hair done, going for a spa day, or just treating yourself anyway you like will improve your mood, and the way you see yourself. A good hairstyle can change your look for the better, and a good massage can improve your mood massively. Pampering yourself regularly helps build your body confidence because you have to love yourself to pamper yourself. I try to make some time out just for me and pamper myself stupid.
Change What you Can’t Live With
Now this tip may be controversial but I believe if you hate something so much and you can’t embrace it (first tip), change it if you can. So for example, if you can’t embrace your weight or your teeth, do something about it. I didn’t like the hairs on my chin, and I did something about it.
How do you work on building your body confidence?
I think knowing what works for your body type can make a huge difference in how you feel.
Yea it can.
Some great tips there. Thanks for posting 🙂 xx
Thank you for reading.
What a great post, I used to suffer terribly when I was younger opting to cover up in big baggy clothes that had no shape whatsoever. When I hit 40 something clicked in my head and I am so much happier now. I agree with embrace your flaws, because as soon as you do, you will love yourself so much more x
Yea. Thanks for reading x
If i have a spray tan I feel more confident about myself. Not sure why but I do!

Yea me too xo
I love these tips. Pamper yourself is so true. A lot of people don’t want to pamper themselves when they feel un comfortable with there body. They really should a nice pedicure can really lift your spirts.
Yea pampering does a lot of good x
I completely agree with all of this, especially the underware bit – I know I am fabulous from the bottom up – and it makes a difference to how I stand, interact and even concentrate.
Great job Helen x
I love how body confident you are, I still find it very hard to look at my body in a positive light but I am learning slowly but surely!
Nice one Ana x
I love this post especially the last part, so true and instead of moaning about how you hate this and that (like me) just do something about it x
Yea true that x
These are great tips and I don’t think that the last one should be controversial at all. A friend of mine has just had a boob job and it has done wonders for her confidence… it’s her choice after all right?
Yea I don’t think so too but many think you should not alter body parts.
So true! Its amazing that just by upgrading your lingerie you can change the way you feel. My mummy needs to invest more in her under garments! 🙂
Yea it can xo
Such a lovely post! It’s definitely important to embrace your flaws. I think it’s one of the biggest challenges that comes with self-love, but it’s certainly one of the most rewarding x
Thanks Emma.
I loved this post, I have problems with feeling good about myself and fed up of people thinking I’m one of those skinny people just saying they need to lose weight when nothing is wrong but they dont see whats underneth my clothes and feel bad about yourself is a problem for some people. Saved this post for days when I feel down
Glad you like the post Karen x
We are not all born the same and we are not all super models. I agree with you, we should embrace out bodies are feel good in them, and also pamper ourselves from time to time because we deserve it.

Miss Kitty Kaos – Adventures Of A Riot Grrrl
Yea they do Kitty.
I do struggle with my body confidence as I have changed shape since having my 3 children. I think I need to accept myself a bit more although it’s not easy.
Yea its not easy but everything becomes easier once its done.
Embracing me started when I got rid of 11 stone of weight 16 stone years ago! Oh that weight was called the ex-husband BTW. He is the ex for a very good reason. I started then to find me. To learn to know me, embracing therapy and all the rest that comes with leaving an awful relationship which I recreated from my childhood.
So with all this, I learnt about me, I learnt how to be more than a Mom, in jeans and top. I came into a new world where make up etc. was very different from my younger days.
I have found my own style of clothing, not just based on trend. I spend an hour or so a week, having a pamper time, of a face pack, hair treatment etc. I started to learn more about make up, embracing the counters in the local stores like John Lewis, Debenhams and Boots to find out what was right for me, by having my make up done.
I started going to a hairdresser who was more than just a hairdresser. I had known her since my youngsters were small. She had been in training, then mobile and finally went to work for a top class independent salon which she bought out a few years ago.
T has a beauty salon and treatments in her salon too.
Regarding my body I used to be really skinny before I left the ex. I was even skinnier in the aftermath. When I met my best friend and soul mate in 2002, I started to settle and with a bit of happiness I put on some weight, which was needed.
Today instead of being a size 10 I am a size 14. I am happy as I am. I have 4 children, so my tummy isn’t wash board flat and ofcourse I have stretch marks, however I have learnt how to make the best of myself, by trial and error too.
I have learnt self care, I have learnt how to have fun and play with how I look. It is amazing what is available today so make some time for you ladies. Enjoy the process and changing. Looking good is fun too
I never go out without feeling right in what I am wearing, having make up on and making a statement however bad I am feeling. I have a monthly allowance for my make up, hair and clothes etc. I buy better brands as they last longer.
Have fun. That is what it is all about. If you enjoy doing it then you will gain in confidence
I agree with all you have said. I feel a lot better when I take care of myself.
Oh P.S: I love this statement I seen online recently; ”My imperfections make me the perfect whole human being I am. I am enough”
Yeap. I am enough.
I love this post!! I’m currently writing one about embracing my post pregnancy body and your tips will definitely help me to do that! I’m going to link back to this post when I publish mine xx
