I have written extensively about acne and various ways to deal with it. So for my True Stories post this month, I decided to write about how my journey with acne started. I started the True Stories series last month with my personal injury story, and it was well received, so expect to read monthly personal true stories.
I have always had a ‘troublesome’ skin. Once I hit puberty, my skin was all over the place with pimples and spots. I remember it being extremely had to tackle. I tried treating my pimples and spots with everything and anything. I even tried applying toothpaste on them overnight, which seem to work but left me with spots to remember. This skin issue went on for all my teenage years and even after. But it went on a whole new level when I went camping in 2007, and had to sleep rough for a few days. I had a massive acne outbreak all over my face, neck and back. It was a horrible sight.
I am not 100% sure of what led to it but I suspect it was the fact that we had horrible living conditions in the camp. I had to sleep rough – on the bare floor the first night. And when I eventually got a bed space, it was more of a hell hole with too many of us. So I guess all that and more made my skin go gaga.
It took months for my skin to return to my regular acne state. I tried everything and I eventually got rid of most of them but I have the acne scars left on my face (God bless the makers of makeup), and loads on my back.
Now for those who don’t know, Acne or Acne Vulgaris is a long-term skin disease that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. So Acne is characterised by whiteheads or blackheads, pimples, spots, greasy skin and in some cases – scarring.
I had blackheads, spots, pimples and a bit of scarring. Some parts of my face were usually greasy too. But I am happy to say I no longer have to deal with acne. It is now a distant memory except for the scars left. However I know many people have to deal with their acne and scars everyday and I know how frustrating it can be.
The good news is there is now a treatment for acne scars in form of the Laser Acne Scar Removal Treatment. This laser treatment tackles the appearance of acne scars on every area of the body. The treatment is fast, easy and it improves the overall texture and condition of the skin.
The video above explains the treatment process at Pulse Light Clinic London in detail. It is definitely worth watching.

I’ve not dealt with acne but I do get pimples here and there it seems I’m always investing in some form of AHA’s because of the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation left behind – the pain!
So frustrating..
So glad to hear that you dont have problem skin any more x
Thanks Nikki x
I’ve had similar experiences but not full on acne. My skin has always been clear until I hit my mid twenties and then I had some nasty breakouts that have left some hyperpigmentation, it can get you so down right? Thankfully treatments like this exist now and can help people with the after affects of acne! Great post! Xx
Thanks Charlotte xx
I feel for you as I still have problem skin and i’m in my 40s!
Really? OMG!
I was fortunate enough to not have problem skin when I was younger although my eldest sister struggled massively and I know how miserable it made it her so I’m glad you were able to beat it!

It is frustrating. Thanks for reading.
Great write up. I feel like I had terrible acne as a teenager that luckily only comes around every so often now.
Thanks Emily.
I had bad acne as a teen and I still have back acne that is hard to get rid of. It’s such a pain!
It is a major pain.
Thanks for sharing – I’ve had friends really struggle with this.
Thanks for reading.
Ah the wonders of laser treatment! 🙂 I didn’t actually know that you can now use laser to treat acne too!
Yea so cool.
My skin at the moment is breaking out badly, especially around my jaw, which is where it is the worst. I’ve never had breakouts this bad in my life before. x
I know all about that x
It’s great that there is something that can be done, I know a few people that might look into this. I will pass on your post, thanks x
Thank you Melanie x
It’s good to hear that there is something that can be done about acne scars – I didn’t know there was a treatment.
Yea there is one now at Pulse Light Clinic London.
I had some mild acne in my teens which meant I had to take antibiotics for some time, but luckily I only got one mild scar from it. It is great to see that there is treatment available for scarring from acne as I had friends who had a terrible time with it.
Lucky you Sarah.
A friend of mine is in his late 30’s and he has really bad acne, the kind which looks like boils and painful. Thankfully he doesn’t let it bother him, it is just sad no medication so far has worked to clear it x
Oh my. That sounds frustrating.
My acne is awful and I would love to get rid of some of the scars it has left! xx
Yea the scars can be a pain.
I know acne is a big problem. I also have oily skin and only in the past few years I managed to get it under control.
Ah that is good.
I used to have acne during puberty, but it never got really bad. I still get a pimple now and then, but luckily they go away fast as well.
Ah that is good.
Never got acne bad, but i do feel all that have it. Just remember they are good people too.
It can be bad…
Aww, bless your heart. Acne can be so nasty! A few friends of mine suffered with it really bad in their teens and early 20’s, but luckily it’s all under control now. I was so glad to read that you no longer have to deal with it x
Yea thank goodness xx
