Shopping vintage is now in vogue. I know many people who shop vintage on a monthly basis in search for the next investment piece/accessory.
If you like to shop vintage, you may find these tips useful –
Take your time
Take your time when you go shopping for vintage items. You have to be patient and happy to go through the many rails instead of the next treasure. It is unlikely you would be able to return a vintage item, so take your time, try it on and make sure you are very happy with the item(s).
Go for investment pieces
Go for investment pieces if you can afford to. They stand the test of time, and do not lose their value over the years. I would only shop vintage investment pieces. I don’t see the point in shopping vintage for anything less, except it is a gem.
Go for classics
Go for classic vintage pieces in classic shapes and colours. This way you can get the maximum wear out of the pieces from year to year.
Get the time right
Timing is everything when it comes to many things, and vintage shopping is no exception. The best time to shop vintage is after Christmas and New Year celebrations; and at the end of every season. Getting the time right means you would grab the best vintage items before anyone.
Go for the highest quality
When it comes to vintage, the highest quality is the best to buy. Take a good look at every item before you buy, and aim to go for the highest quality items. Natural fabrics are the best. They hang better, last longer and look great.
Understand vintage language
Understanding the vintage language is very important especially when shopping vintage online. For example “mint condition” means the item is as good as new, while “good condition” means the item is wearable but with flaws. Understanding the vintage lingo would help you get the right picture of the state of the item.
Be careful online
I love shopping online but I am always careful when buying anything that is not from a regular high street or designer brand. I am usually more careful shopping the less popular/independent/marketplace sellers online. So I won’t advise anyone to shop vintage online. I think vintage is best bought in the flesh.
What are your thoughts on vintage shopping? Do you have any tips to share?
Omg vintage shopping is my life, clothes and also furniture! Awesome
Oh nice.
i love vintage stuff. I agree you have to take your time to find great pieces… they don’t come up very often!
Yes they don’t. Thanks Hollie.
I love vintage shopping. I do less now, but it’s still something I enjoy.
Ah nice Penelope.
I this I will not buy vintage items online or maybe those with high values. Its better to see it physically to check the authenticity. I agree that we really aware of the vintage languages as well.
Yes it is. Thanks Anosa.
I love your advice here. Vintage shopping is something that has to be done with great patience and a keen eye. You can’t go shop when you need something to wear.
Thanks Sarah.
I agree you have to take your time and look for items that are high quality. I would also say be wary of market stalls as they can rip you off and overcharge you x
Thanks Ana x

Thanks Claire.
Great advice! I love vintage and different. I agree it’s best done in a shop than online. There are some things vintage included that it’s best to head for retail therapy
Thank you. Vintage is cool and different.
I love vintage shopping! you are right though, timing is everything with it. There are times I go and look and don’t find a thing. Other times I hit the jackpot. Great advice!
Thank you.
I love classic and vintage items, that way they are fashionable for years to come. I don’t think I could go espically for a vintage shop though as I rarely have time.
Yea it does take a lot of time.
Some great advice, I need the confidence and the time to do this properly. I agree with you about spending the money to get some investment pieces.
Thanks Lisa.

Going for classics is a great tip, I think it’s always a bargain if you’ll get the wear from it! 🙂
True that.
