Being a blogger is hard, very hard. You are pretty much putting yourself out to be applauded, laughed at, trolled, admired, and all. It can be a little too much, and I can completely understand why many choose to abandon their blogs and dreams of becoming a pro blogger. I have been blogging for some years now, and I know I had to pick up a few traits I felt I needed to keep me going. God knows I would have abandoned this blog ages ago, if I didn’t have these traits.
The way it is now, I can never dream of abandoning Fashion and Style Police, it is like my first child. And you never abandon your kids, no matter what.
Here are some of the traits that have helped me so far in my blogging career –
Passion
I would have stopped blogging ages ago if I didn’t have the passion for it. I enjoy writing. Having my own creative online space is the best thing ever! I have a strong passion for fashion and beauty, and I enjoy writing about lifestyle stuff every now and again. Without my passion, I would have given up a long time, and you won’t be reading this post.
Determination
I am a very strong willed, determined person. I know what I want and how to get it. I also make sure nothing gets in the way of what I really want; I usually find a way around it. This trait has kept me going. I won’t be where I am today if I was not a determined person. I am a fighter, and it affects everything I do.
Thick Skin
I have grown a thick skin over the years, and that has helped me greatly. Blogging is not for the faint hearted, I can tell you that for a fact, as everyone has an opinion about what you do and how you should do it, even though they may not really have a clue. A thick skin protects me from trolls, negative people, unsupportive people in my real life and the drama that comes with blogging in general. Having a thick skin has helped me in all aspects of life. I would be so fragile without one.
Patience
I am usually an impatient person, but as I have grown older and wiser, I have found myself being a bit more patient. And I believe that has helped my blogging career as well. Being patient means you can keep your head down, work on your blog, decline the collaborations that don’t work and embrace the ones that do work.
Unique
Standing out is one of the best things you could do for yourself as a blogger. Being unique means you have a blog name that stands out in the blogosphere, you blog about things you really enjoy writing about and produce unique content as often as you can. Being unique is one trait I believe Bloggers can never have too much of.
What personality traits have helped you in your career, business or hobby?
Love these – so true. Powerful girl!
Thanks Hannah.
I definitely need to develop thicker skin, I’ve had a few troll comments that have really upset me over the last year!
Just ignore the troll comments Helen. I know it is easier said, but they are the ones with the problem, not you.
These are so true. I think patience and organization are the main ones, especially the later for me, there’s no way I’d get everything done if I wasn’t organized x
Yea that is true for me as well x
Very true, a thick skin is a must. I don’t think people realise how much hard work goes on ‘behind the scenes’. I love writing my blog I don’t think I could be a pro blogger though. It’s nice just to keep it fun.
Yes.The thicker the skin, the better.
Summed up perfectly and you obviously have all of them! 🙂 x
Thanks x
Totally agree – you need to be resilient and determined to make it!
Yes true.
Well I guess having the determination and passion to do what you love is really some of the important things not just on blogging but achieving our goals in live. Being unique as well is one in order to stand-out among others.
Yeap true that.
Thanks for the advice really needed it
Oh good. Glad you found it useful.
Well written. I started my blog alongside friends who have since abandoned theirs because they didn’t have the passion to succeed and passion is something which makes me blog everyday. You are fabulous Stella x
Thanks hun xx
I think developing a thick skin as a blogger is very important as some people just don’t get it and poor scorn on you when you find out what you do
Yes many do..So sad because the joke is on them really.
I love the post Stella and I agree with all five!
For me personally, it is not letting anyone cage me in a box. They say if you blog Fashion, just blog fashion and if you blog beauty, just blog beauty but I choose to blog what I feel like from Motivation to hair to beauty etc and thank God a lot of people are embracing the idea.
This journey is not one size fit all and I have learnt that.
Thanks for sharing it.

I agree. Thanks for reading Moji xx
These are very true. I think blogging has given me confidence, I was a bit lost on maternity leave when I started my blog and it has made me step out my comfort zone and try new things x
Ah nice one x
Determination definitely and passion – but my biggest one is just wanting to create something that is all mine- something I produced and something that other people can benefit from!
Ah nice one.
i can definitely see both sides of the coin – blogging takes up a lot of time and energy, sometimes it’s great and sometimes it’s not but it is definitely my passion and something I enjoy. I couldn’t imagine giving my blog up!
I can’t imagine either..
So true – such great traits too!
Thanks.
I totally agree with you. I may also add constancy and motivation. As you said, we need to take care of our children continuously! x
Exactly..
I think you need oddles of passion! We’re working on the thick skin at the moment 😉
Oh good. Keep at it xx
Determination is key for me. I have two businesses, my cake business & blogging. You have to be so determined as it’s so hard in the beginning to establish yourself and plough through everything to make it a success
Yes it is extremely hard..
I am nodding my head as I read this post. I love blogging and have for 6 years. I find it hard to find time to write as I use to and this gets me down a little as there is so much to do with a blog other than just write.
Glad you agree Claire.
Definitely agree with the list! Glad you blog though because i love reading all your posts 🙂 x
Aww thanks Jodie.
Thanks for the tips on Blogging traits!
You are very welcome.
I need to develop a thicker skin, I guess, I wasn’t ready for negative hurtful comments from strangers😳
Yea I wasn’t expecting it either until I got them.
