Beauty Secrets to Stay Pretty at 45000 Feet

Summer is here, and that means it is holiday time! Many of us have holidays booked and that means many long flights ahead. Looking good on a flight can be hardwork sometimes. The stress of travelling, especially with young children, can be a little too much. Most times our skincare/beauty routine is out of the window by the time we board, and every beauty rule is broken by the time the plane takes off!

Holidays

If you’re the type who travels a lot, then you need to make sure you take extra care of your skin. But how can we know what’s the best way to take care of our skin when nobody lives thousands of feet in the sky?

While flying through a couple of countries, I observed that the air hostesses were always so radiant and gorgeous. What was so interesting was how beautiful they looked despite the stress(dealing with demanding passengers)  and long hours of work on the airplane.

After a bit of probing into the beauty secrets of the air hostesses, I finally cracked their code. If you’re curious like I was or if you’re the type who loves travels and wants to maintain a beautiful skin, then this article is for you.

  1. Moisturize

I wasn’t surprised when I found out that air hostesses moisturize more than usual. Keeping your skin healthy and glowing for long hours means that you need to make sure that your skin retains as much moisture as possible.

  1. Drink plenty of water

This goes hand-in-hand with moisturizing. Moisturizing will make sure that your skin is not starved off water but you need to note that real beauty starts from the inside out. Staying hydrated reduces the chances of your skin getting dry, plus it flushes out toxins from your body. Toxin build up can find its way to your skin, so drinking water is one of the easiest ways to get clear skin.

  1. Layer your skin care products

The weather 45000 feet away can be really harsh on the skin especially when it is a long flight. I remember my Emirates flight to Dubai last Christmas, I had to layer my skincare products to get the shine and glow I wanted.

The secret is in the layering. For example, before applying foundation, they make sure they moisturize really well. The same goes for applying lipstick. Use a lip balm first then layer it with your favourite coloured lipstick. The idea is to keep the skin-rejuvenating products beneath all the makeup to get double dose of beauty.

  1. Choose your makeup wisely

Makeup can enhance your beauty. But if you’re looking for the long-term effect of beautiful skin then you need to choose makeup that will help your skin.

Don’t go for anything heavy. Choose makeup that’s light on the skin. Plant and mineral makeup can do wonders on your skin while still preserving that natural look. It’s easy on your skin while it hides away your blemishes.

  1. These are some great tips. I’ve never really thought about the effect altitude may have on your skin so I like that you’ve mentioned moisturising and drinking lots! Also the layering of make up, very clever!

  2. I am always careful on long haul flights not to be lazy with my skin. I always make sure I wash my make up off before I sleep, and moisturise, and then wash again and reapply when I wake up, just as normal. The moisturising and drinking water tips are particularly good ones, thanks. Kate

  3. I always think air hostesses skin is amazing! I’ve always wondered how because my skin gets so dry and cracked as soon as I get off the plane. I definitely need to invest in a stronger moisturiser before I fly next. x

  4. Fab tips! To be honest when flying I’m not that bothered with how I look but it is so important to keep skin hydrated, so I’ll make sure to make sure I moisturise just before a long haul flight.

  5. I never fly with makeup on. I slather my face with moisturiser every couple of hours and drinking lots of water. Then freshen up with light makeup just before landing.

  6. I travel too much (if one can say that) I just flew to Basel this morning and my beauty routine went out the window but funny enough though I moisturised for the first time I actually stayed really hydrated too. Great tips
