How to Cleanse, Tone and Moisturize Properly

I don’t think there is any skincare routine that doesn’t include a good cleanse, tone and adequate moisturizing. And as important as those 3 are, some people either don’t do them correctly or neglect them all together.

It may seem strange to think that some people don’t know how to cleanse, tone and moisture properly but it really does happen. That’s why I thought I should outline the step by step process so that you get the full benefit of your skincare routine.

Step #1 – Wash Your Face

Choose a mild soap and wash your face with lukewarm water. Take note not to be over-enthusiastic about the temperature of the water you use to wash your face. The water must not be so hot as to hurt your face or so cold to freeze your skin.

Make sure that you choose a soap that is not too harsh on your skin. Most soaps contain chemicals that may cause you skin irritation so be careful with the kind of soap you use.

Step #2 – Apply a Cleanser

You need to also exercise caution with the type of cleanser you go with. There are 3 different skin types: dry, combination and oily skin. So you should buy a cleanser that goes with your skin type. If you have sensitive skin, choose a cleanser that is not harsh as it may irritate your skin.

Soak a cotton ball with the cleanser and gently apply it on your face. It’s better to do this in circular motions so that it goes into your pores and takes all the dirt out effectively.

If you have dry skin, it’s better to use an oil based cleanser so that your skin doesn’t dry up. If you have oily skin then you should go for a cleanser that helps reduce oil production.

Make sure that you avoid letting the cleanser anywhere near your eyes so that it won’t burn.

Step #3 – Apply a Toner

The next step is to tone. Toning helps to shrink pores and improve the complexion of your skin. You also need to be careful with the type of toner you buy. Make sure you choose a toner that works well with your skin type.

Soak a cotton ball with the toner and gently apply it all over your face, taking care not to get any toner in your eyes.

Step #4 – Moisturize

This is the final step to your skincare routine. Moisturizing is what will help give you that youthful look. It keeps your skin hydrated and smooth. Moisturizers that have UV protection are a bonus as that kind of moisturizer will help protect you from the harmful effects of the sun.

There are different moisturizers for each skin type. With dry skin, you need to apply extra moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. There are specially formulated moisturizers for those with oily skin as well.

Take a moisturizer in your hands and rub it gently over your face in circular motion. This will allow your skin to soak in the moisture. Apply extra care around your eyes as the skin there is very sensitive.
