Mental health is more important than physical health

“Without a sound mind, there is no body” – Fashion and Style Police.

Mental health is something I have decided to blog about. I have written many articles about mental health, depression, and anxiety in the last few years. You can catch up on those posts in my lifestyle category. This topic is close to my heart because almost every day, I hear or read about someone dealing with mental health issues. I think there is a lot more to be said about it.

Our mental health is more important than our physical health. I remember having a conversation about this with a friend some time ago and she didn’t understand how our mind could be more important than our body but it is. Many of us take our mental health for granted. We pay attention to our physical health and everything else but pay no mind to our minds which is the most important part of us. Without a sound mind, there is no body, and many people struggle to understand that bit but it is fact. Having said that, our physical health is also very important. If we neglect to take care of our bodies, that could lead to many health issues that will eventually start affecting our mental health.

There are many ways to improve your physical health and I am sure you know how to replace certain habits or lifestyle choices with healthier options to improve overall health. One way is by replacing regular cigarettes with vape cartridges. Your next question now could be are delta 8 vape cartridges safe? And the answer is yes, if they are lab-tested, top quality, and properly extracted. You could also try Kona Kratom products which have great relaxing benefits, especially the red vein kratom, which is the most potent.

Spending time caring for our minds should be a priority. Doing more of what makes us happy should be our target. Focusing on everyone except ourselves (hello mums) would only drain us. Even if you struggle to switch off, it’s important to find something that works for you. Some people find avery albino mushrooms help to enhance mood and relax, whilst others find meditation or simply a nice hot chocolate works for them. We need to make out time every day for ourselves to protect our state of mind.

What is mental health?

Mental health or emotional health as some professionals like to call it is our overall psychological well-being. It includes the way we feel about ourselves, relationships, and our ability to manage our feelings and deal with difficulties. Mental health plays a major role in our ability to manage our physical health, which is why I think it is more important to have a healthy state of mind because that will help you achieve healthy physical health.

Paying attention to our physical health problems and neglecting our mental health issues will only cause more problems. Both are closely related and important, but I believe that priority should be given to our mental health. That being said, it is important to ensure we also stay on top of our physical health. One way to achieve this is by taking natural health supplements, like those by Nature Happiness, which can help provide your body with the nutrients it needs to stay well and function as normal.

Why the comparison?

Many of us tend to ignore our mental health. It is not something we can see so many of us, tend to neglect it until it becomes a major issue. This is why I am writing this post. Our mind needs to be catered to. We should remember self-care is not a luxury, it is essential. Spending time caring for our minds should be a priority. Doing more of what makes us happy should be our target. Focusing on everyone except ourselves (hello mums) would only drain us. We need to make out time every day for ourselves to protect our state of mind.

In conclusion

Both our mental health and physical health are important, and should not be taken for granted. I am not a Doctor, Counsellor or Therapist, but my advice is if you continue to feed your mind, your body will remain healthy. A healthy mind leads to a healthy body. So pay special attention to your mental health.

  1. I don’t think it’s always about taking mental health for granted, or ignoring it deliberately. I’m from the ‘toughen up and get on with it’ generation, where mental health problems were often seen as a sign of weakness, so many people have been conditioned to put up with it, and not ‘give in’ to symptoms. I am so glad this is changing and people are learning to recognise and face what are often fairly common issues.

    • I am glad to see it is changing too with more people talking openly about these issues. Thanks Lucy.

  2. So glad to see you blogging on this Stella. It is an issue to a greater or lesser extent everyone will suffer with at sometime in there life. Even if you aren’t one who comes from dysfunction, and have had a ”normal” life everyone will be touched, by death, loss of job, maybe and so on.

I have emotional health issues briefly because of whole life from childhood. I have learnt to manage them more than they manage me over the years. It’s a complex area that although the government give noise too there isn’t enough money or services to provide adequately for people not able to pay privately.

In our area (an we aren’t in a deprived are) they give those referred leaflets on what to follow up themselves. If your that down, you can’t possibly have the strength do implement these easily.

Though I must say for me, ”I got my head together and my body fell apart” LOL. People don’t realise that emotional issues can bring on physical problems too. I have fibromyalgia and the symptoms of, with CFS/M.E and a stomach and bowel condition. They were all bought on by PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

So what you say is very true Stella. Thank you for taking the challenge on and talking about an emotive subject. The problem with the average person is that mental health issues can’t be seen as we put a face on it and fake being O.K. Indeed that is the same for the majorette of illnesses, that you can’t see them, not just emotional health

    • PTSD can lead to your body falling apart so I can picture exactly what you are referring to. Happy to hear you like the post. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. As someone who suffers from chronic illness, my mental health is directly affected by my physical health, so I think they are both important

    • I agree with you on this. I believe mental health is important. I also believe they work together. I believe exercise and/or meditaiton can help with a person’s emotional well being. It does start with your mental health, but I also believe it is about taking action as well.

  4. True! I had my first taste of mental challenge when I had my twins 2 years ago.
The depression and the need to stay sane drove me to start my first blog-kbhwriting.
Blogging has been of intense help to me, it has become a companion that nothing else can take its place.

    • Good you have found an outlet in blogging. Writing helps me too! And as a twin mum, I can fully relate with your challenge.

  7. I have never really thought about it that way but I do believe this to be true. “A joyful heart is good medicine, But a crushed spirit saps one’s strength” (Proverbs 17:22). Our mind is the beginning and end of our ability to do things. Without the mind, the body is useless. Thank you for reminding me of the importance of taking time to manage our mental health.

  8. Thank you for your post. I think both are valuable and there is a significant relationship between the two. I have written a blog about this concept and it would be great if you could check it out and let me know what you think

  10. Thank you for this post, I also agree that you cannot have successful physical health without healing your mind first. I feel like many people don’t think about this, though. People think that if you address your physical health first that it will help your mental health. Sometimes it does, if you really work hard to exercise every day. But, if your mental health is healthy then you will be more motivated to work on your physical health, at least that has been the case for me. I agree with you that your mental health comes first before anything. A healthy mind can lead to a healthy body.

  11. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act. It is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Good mental health is a vital asset for individuals, families and society. If you have good mental wellbeing and you are able to feel relatively confident in yourself, feel engaged with the world around you.

  12. Mental health and physical health are so intwined – you can’t distinguish them apart – they affect each other in so many intricate ways and trying to segregate them does not solve many of the issues. Our health should be viewed as a whole. We are one being, not the sum of our parts.

  13. Hi there, I love this piece about mental issues, and I love the statement of this title. I recently wrote one about mental health concerning similar and important issues and would appreciate if you could spare 10 minutes to check it out?

Let me know what you think, thank you.

  15. This is SO true, I always say mental health is more important. It can cause bad physical health even, so that proves how important it really is. I believe to try to have as many “mental health days” as possible, to just BE.
