OOTD: My Love for Backpacks

Since becoming a mother, my fashion life has taken a back seat as expected. I am unable to wear sky-high shoes when out and about with the twins. I only started going out with my handbags. In the early days, I used to share the baby bag with them. I couldn’t see the point in taking 2/3 bags out at the same time.

During those days, I began to appreciate backpacks and shoulder bags. The fact that I could pop everything I needed in a backpack and still have my hands free to push the buggy or grab a child felt amazing. These days, you can easily spot me with a backpack. I find them very comfy and handy to have around. So when the opportunity to feature a Zatchel bag landed on my doorstep, I knew the style I was going for instantly.

I went for the Belgrave Cream Backpack. I really like the design and colour. This beauty is handmade in England from the finest quality soft leather. I adore the quick open clasp concealed behind the buckle and two front pockets with magnetic closures. I think it is a cute and stylish backpack.

The green top is also a new wardrobe  addition. I got it in the sale some weeks ago. It has been worn a few times now because I find it dead comfy and easy to layer with a blazer.

I am still in the process of sorting out my autumn/winter wardrobe. I am hoping to finish up this week. So look out for loads of autumn/winter outfit posts. I have a few lined up already.

Kanye West’s Yeezy Clothing Line

I have never understood Kanye West’s Yeezy clothing line and this new season collection is no different. Personally I think Kanye should stick to rapping but it looks like he is more interested in the fashion designing world these days, so what do I know…

I just see the pieces as a bunch of ‘rags’ put together. They have no beauty or style whatsoever. I think Kanye West tries to hard to stand out with the entire focus being on the fashion shows being very weird different, that he loses focus on the collection itself. Or maybe he thinks his pieces are appealing but I beg to differ. I can’t imagine anyone in the ‘real world’ wearing anything from his collection, but maybe I am not just fashionable enough to see it. But then again, Kanye chatted with Vogue stating his clothing line isn’t really bout fashion (then what is it about Kanye?) –

“Let’s say ‘apparel,’ especially for the style of clothes I make,” he said. “I’m not saying that this is a fashion proposition, I’m saying that this is a human proposition.” The clothes are inspired by family, his home in Calabasas, California, and the desire to be out of the public eye sometimes. “Because there’s absolutely no way for me or my family to be invisible, I’ve put that longing for invisibility into the clothes.”

For this 4th fashion show, presented by Adidas with a performance by collaborator and artist Vanessa Beecroftit, it was all about getting on a bus to a secret location. The invited guests had no clue where the location of the fashion show would be until when they actually got there. The guests lucky enough to get an invite received it on the morning of the show. They were whisked off in a bus from a meeting spot to the fashion show venue – Roosevelt Island in New York.

The fashion show had models in underwear on a long lawn facing the Queensborough Bridge. They were in position for a bit under the scorching sun and a model apparently fainted, but that is beside the point. My issue with the whole Yeezy Clothing is the pieces are not practical or stylish, and definitely not worth the hype. He needs to stop with all these fashion stunts he pulls and focus on his designs and caring for his models too. But I guess he would still designing for a while until this all facade wears off, and he accepts the fact that he is a better rapper than he is a designer.

My Natural Hair Transition

Hair Journey Image

I have decided to start documenting my hair transition journey on Fashion and Style Police. I started the journey to natural hair last year and I honestly can’t remember ever seeing my hair natural look this healthy. I decided to stop using relaxers and other chemicals, and grow my natural hair because my processed hair was so weak and unhealthy. I stopped paying attention to it years ago, and I could see the result of my lack of attention, my hair-line was disappearing quickly, I had to do something about it.

This is the first time I am showing a glimpse of my natural hair on the blog. It is usually braided or buried unde a wig or some sort of hair extensions. I have had a love and hate relationship with my hair since I was young. I didn’t like the way it looked or felt. I guess we women of colour were programmed not to love our kinky hair, because all we saw in the magazines and on TV were the straight, silky hair, which is nothing like the African hair.

I am happy to say I have recently fallen in love with my natural hair and all its stubbornness (it never does what I want it do ever), and I am looking forward to styling it in different ways. But I need to grow it first. I became motivated to transition back to natural hair since having my twins. My daughter’s beautiful African kinky hair is hair goals for me. I love everything about her hair, and I enjoy caring for it. Her hair reminds me of how my hair was as a kid . I had beautiful natural hair that I destroyed with chemicals and lack of care. I am determined to grow my hair back to the original length, and I started  this transition journey with a bunch of cool natural hair products, I can’t wait to rave about, so look out for my review posts.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely weekend.
