Does Fashion Empower Women

Fashion means a whole lot of things to different people. For some, it means a means of expression. For others, it’s a way to feel good about themselves. Then there are others who see fashion as a movement.

Seeing fashion as way to empower yourself as a woman is something that is most times overlooked by a lot of women. No matter how fashion conscious they might seem, very few women are aware about the type of power fashion delivers. It’s all up to you to be conscious of it and steer it in the direction that will help you grow as a woman.

But can fashion really empower women? I did a bit of research and soul-searching as I’m also into fashion and this is what I got:

Fashion makes you feel confident about yourself

There’s no doubt that looking good makes you feel great about yourself. And when you’re confident, you are able to do things in life fearlessly. For a woman, fashion empowers her to be able to come out of her shell. Fashion gives you that sense of security that you will be respected and heard because people usually address us the way we are dressed. Also, the boost of confidence fashion gives makes a woman feel unstoppable.

Fashion is a good avenue to make a living

Some of the women who venture into fashion industry have been extremely successful. Fashion is a lucrative business and there are so many angles from which you can start a career. From fashion blogging to fashion designing, or a being a personal stylist to sharing and selling courses or training, the options are endless, and the sky is only the beginning.

Being able to create a sustainable living from something that interests you is empowering as it gives you a sense of control over your life. You feel that you are able to support yourself and your family. You also define your income which empowers you to do greater things in life.

Fashion gives you the opportunity to share your message and make an impact

Fashion is expression. It’s a means of telling a story about society. While watching fashion shows on TV, I love listening to the behind-the-scenes interview with fashion designers. I observed that whenever they talk about their collection, there was usually a story behind it and a message they wanted to put out in the world.

Charity shows and fund raisers have been a great way women have impacted society through fashion. Their art through fashion has been an inspiration to several other upcoming designers, who look up to them for the motivation to pursue their dreams.

So does fashion inspire women? Absolutely! It’s all about being able to take fashion leverage on its power to give you the confidence to be yourself, the economic power to live the life of freedom and the ability to share your message and be an inspiration to others.

As a fashion blogger, I struggle sometimes to get the right images for my fashion posts. Some websites make it so hard to save or download images. I sometimes find myself spending hours searching for the right images I need for a blog post, and when I do find them, it may not save correctly or come in a different format that WordPress does not like, which brings me back to stage zero. So SHOWROOMIST is like GOLD for Fashion and Style Police! It solves all these problems. I don’t have to go from website to website in search of images, press releases or product information, when I can get them all on SHOWROOMIST.

Is 2017 the Year of the Skirt

Is 2017 the Year of the Skirt?

One of the best things about fashion blogging is that there is always something new to write about. The fashion world never stands still. There are always new trends and styles to enjoy, and 2017 is no different. It is already turning out to be an interesting year. This is because, this year, many designers have radically changed their approach to women´s fashion.

Gone are the muted palette and the tight-fitting style of trousers, blouses and dresses we have grown used to over the past few years. Brighter, loser clothes are starting to appear on the catwalks and in the shops, as designers start to change direction.

For the past few years, dresses have dominated, but that is definitely changing. It is clear that skirts and tops are set to be the go-to combination. As you can see on this page, there are a lot of different cuts to choose between.

Pleat skirts

The biggest trend is accordion pleat skirts. These long, full pleated skirts are popping up everywhere. Even Beyoncé has been seen wearing one, so you know this is a trend that is going to last. They are being worn in lots of different ways. A lot of women are pairing them with a generously cut top that is tucked into the waistband and pulled back out slightly to create a soft look that works well with this type of skirt.

Full maxi skirts

The maxi cut is still with us, but instead of dresses it is skirts, for 2017. Most are full and made of soft, relatively heavy fabrics like jersey, so they may not be suitable for wearing on really hot days, but they are definitely going to feature in a lot of women´s wardrobes.

Tailored skirts

At the other end of the spectrum are tight-fitting pencil and tube skirts. They come in a range of lengths.

Naturally, most of the pencil skirts finish either just above or just below the knee. However, the tube skirts come in a wide range of lengths including some that end midway down the calf.

Many designers are offering them in a range of elasticised fabrics, which helps to create a cleaner, slightly flatter silhouette. If you like a smooth, un-interrupted line, look for pull on versions, which do not have zips built-in. Naturally, most of these are made of some sort of stretch fabric. They not only look good they are also, typically, very comfortable to wear.

Ultra casual skirts

For those of you who want to keep things casual, button through denim skirts are a good option. They look good whether you are wearing a t-shirt or a casual shirt. If you prefer a more tailored look, a chino style pencil, or straight skirt is a good choice. They look good whether you wear them with sandals or a pair of ankle boots, on a cooler day.

For some of us wearing a skirt is going to take some getting used to, because they have not been popular for many years. However, they actually look great, so the next time you go shopping it is really worth trying a few on.

What do you think of the skirt craze?
