How to Get People to Read Your Blog

Growing my readership was perhaps one of the most challenging aspects of blogging. You create content to have it read by many people but when the readers are not forthcoming, it’s almost natural to be tempted to think that starting a blog was a waste of time. So how do you get people to read your blog?

Believe me, I’ve been there too. It took a lot of willpower to keep going especially when my analytics showed zero views. But over the years I got better and refined my process. Now I have thousands of readers stopping by every week.

If your blog is at the early stages and you need some help to get the number of visitors up, here are some tips you can start with.

Share your blog posts on social media

I know that you’ve heard this before and even tried it. But the reason why this does not work for most people is that they passively share their posts on social media.

Whenever you want to share your blog post on social media leave a little description of what your ideal readers will take away from reading your blog post. Simply just sharing your blog post on social media is not enough to ignite curiosity in your ideal readers and motivate them to check the link. You need to leave a caption that would get them clicking. Also, remember to use the right hashtags. You can get more tips from my blogging book – How to Cash In as a Blogger, available exclusively on Amazon.

Join Facebook groups that help promote blog posts

Just like you there are thousands of bloggers looking for readers. These bloggers joined together to form a community with the aim of helping each other grow.

Run a quick search on Facebook for blogging groups that help promote blogs. Once you find some, join in and share your blog posts. But don’t be selfish. Make sure you also participate in promoting other members’ blog posts as well and stick to the group rules as you do so.

Collaborate with other bloggers to get people to read your blog

You’ve probably guessed by now that you can’t grow your readership on your own. You need the help of other people to help you get more readers. Look for bloggers who have better numbers than you in terms of views and engagement and ask if you could cross-promote each other.

Another alternative is to work on a joint blog post or interview the blogger who is doing better than you and ask them to share that post with their readers. This will help direct their readers to your blog.

Ask people to read your blog post

Most times it can be really nerve-racking to ask your friends and family to read your blog post. Or to have them share it with their friends. But all that is coming from a wrong mindset. The truth is that once you ask someone to read your blog post it creates momentum to ask another.

Reach out to your friends: send them an email or message and ask them to read your blog post and encourage them to share their thoughts in the comments. Don’t forget to ask them to share your blog post with their friends. If you don’t ask, you don’t get!

I am currently offering social media promotion packages to bloggers and small businesses, so do send me an email for more information –

Influencer Marketing – When Influencers Get Paid

An influencer is anyone with influence. So anyone with a good following can be identified as an influencer, as long as they are cashing in on it. Influencer marketing is huge. This is because people value the power of word-of-mouth. What this means is that people respect the opinions of others and are more prone to listen to their opinions and base their decision to buy a product or service on that.

The Power of Influencers

The power of influencer marketing is seen more on social media. An influencer endorses a product by telling his or her followers that the product is good or that they like the product a lot. This encourages their followers to go for the product, or to at least consider it.

Influencer Marketing

I’ve been hearing a lot of talk going around about the term – influencer marketing. Some believe that being paid to use your influencer status to influence your readers means that you are probably telling white lies about a product just because there is money involved. Others believe that there are honest influencers who only choose to use their influencer status to promote products that they believe in.

Building a committed readership takes a lot of work. It has taken me 5 years to get Fashion and Style Police to where it is today. I remember the long hours I put in to make sure that my blog was in front of as many readers as possible. Although it’s a little easier today, as I have made a name for myself, but I still have to put in a lot effort to keep the clicks coming.

Blogging and Influencing

Blogging is not just writing words for people to read or posting photos for people to see. It’s about building trust in the heart of your readers. And it takes a lot of time and effort to build that trust. Your readers trust what you share on your blog. You can imagine how they will feel if they found out that everything you wrote on your blog post was biased because you were paid to talk about a product or service.

Some of these influencer/bloggers have a way of separating content that was paid for from posts that were not. Such bloggers mark such posts as ‘Collaborative Posts’. But then again, how can you be sure that there aren’t hidden promoted posts that were not marked or disclosed?

The fate of such bloggers is a bit shaky there. There are some readers who don’t really mind such posts but there are some readers who really do mind them. If you’re a regular reader of blogs like me then you will definitely understand the sensitivity here.

Going Forward

I believe every reader is entitled to know the truth. I always make I disclose on here when they has been a partnership of some sort with a brand. It makes life easier for everyone involved. I sleep better at night too!

We base a lot of our decisions about products and services from people who have tried them before. If the bloggers we rely on tell us half-truths because they were paid to write nice things about a product or service then we run the risk of being misled all our lives.

What do you think of influencer marketing in general? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below. If you enjoyed reading this post, please share on your social media platforms. Thanking you.

Ten ways to spend your evenings indoors now it is coming into winter

The sun begins to set a little earlier, the temperature begins to drop and the leaves start to fall from the trees. These are all signs that winter is on its way and with it the amount of outdoors activities begins to decline.

The green fields that people would play football on during the summer have become muddy and less appealing for the casual player. Instead we seek refuge indoors, in the warm, where the weather won’t affect us. We have taken a look at ten ways you can spend your evenings indoors  as we head into winter that includes everything from watching Game of Thrones to playing bingo games.

Films & TV

Granted watching one film wouldn’t be enough, but maybe the entire extended Lord of the Rings trilogy will last as long as winter, or even watch every series of Game of Thrones and keep shouting “Winter is coming!” until the Spring returns the following year.

Read a book

There are probably people who find reading a book boring, but when your outdoor activities become more and more limited, settling down with a good book can be a nice relaxing alternative. You can sit in the warm, make yourself comfortable and just forget about the outside world as you get lost in a fantasy world.

If non-fiction is more of your thing, and you are looking into going pro with your blogging hobby, then go have a read of my book – How to Cash In as a Blogger. It is available exclusively on Amazon.

By the time winter arrives, the Great British Bake-Off will be over and with it, your baking enthusiasm may have waned but winter can be a great time to test out your baking skills. You can make some gingerbread men or make some Christmas cake and give some to those that need to stop being a Scrooge.

Plan your summer holiday

What better way to make yourself feel warm than to plan your summer holiday? You get to look at all of the sunny destinations and work out where the best location is to get a tan. If you want to make it feel more summery as you research locations, make a nice summer cocktail. You can also work out a plan to get that beach body you’re bound to be wanting come summer.

Ice skating

If you’re someone who actually enjoys the cold dark winters then you could give a winter sport a try. Ice skating can be good for both a workout and for being romantic with your partner.

If it’s your first time trying it, make sure to take it slow. It’s not an easy sport to try, and injuries are common amongst beginners.

The pub

You could always treat winter like a zombie apocalypse. Just go to the Winchester, have a pint and wait for all of this to blow over. You’ll probably be kicked out of the pub at some point if you wait until winter is over. So perhaps just spend an evening in there having a few drinks and catching up with friends.

Whether you enjoy playing the latest game on a console or enjoy sitting down to play a board game, games are a great way to pass the time. You can stay in your own home and let out a little bit of competitive energy. You should remember not to overdo it. No one wants broken console controllers or the game board to be flipped over.

Spend some time listening to your favourite music artists and create some playlists to make the time fly by. If you listen to music while planning your summer holiday, you can also create a summer playlist to really distract you from the impending winter nights.

If you want to give your mind a bit of a workout then you can get stuck into some brain teasers. Most newspapers usually have a section dedicated to crosswords, Sudokus and word searches. Failing that you can always step outside and find books specifically for these brain teasers to have even more fun.

Something that has embedded itself into British culture, Bingo is a great way to spend an evening as winter approaches. It’s a great way to socialise with your friends and provides you with the opportunity to make new ones too. There is also the potential for you to win some Christmas spending money along the way.

How do you plan to spend your evening indoors this winter? Do you have any plans?
