Homeschooling – The Pros and Cons

After having the twins, I played around with the idea of homeschooling them. I had my reservations about the education system, and I knew some people in real life and online that were happily homeschooling. So I played around with the idea for a bit. Which is why the kiddies didn’t go to any childcare setting until they started Pre School at 3 years old. And before that, I never used any form of childcare and still haven’t except school. I wanted to be hands on with my kids from the start, and that is exactly what I have done for the past 5 plus years.

The best of both worlds

Homeschooling is an amazing opportunity. I wish I could shake the hands of every parent/guardian doing this. It is a lot of work homeschooling a child. The amount of work involved is impossible to comprehend until you actually do it, so I can only imagine. I do teach my kids at home. We do school work almost everyday, except holidays and weekends. The kiddies enjoy reading, so we do a lot of that. We also practice our spelling, writing and numbers. So they get the best of both worlds – Studying at home and at school.

Homeschooling – The pros for us

Like I said, I found the whole idea of Homeschooling very appealing, and I considered doing it. The reasons why I found homeschooling appealing are –

  1. I liked the flexibility – Being able to set our hours and travel when we want to made me want to homeschool the kids. Homeschooling will enable us work to our own schedule and do what would be convenient for us.

2. Learn at our pace – My kids are very academic, so being able to learn at their pace would be great. Not having to worry about the pace of 28 other children would be great.

3. Set up our own curriculum – This is a big one for me. The idea of learning what I feel is relevant for their age group and ignore things they have no business knowing about. Obviously, they would be learning what their peers are learning in school and more. But no topics I feel they shouldn’t be learning.

Homeschooling – The cons for us

For me, the cons outweigh the pros at the moment, which is why the kiddies are in a lovely primary school a few minutes away. Here are the cons for me –

  1. Dealing with isolation – I feel like my kids would be isolated if I homeschool now. I don’t drive, so being out and about isn’t easy. Even if I did drive, we would still feel isolated in a homeschool setting.
  2. The Kiddies love school – They love school so much. They are very happy to go everyday and they look forward to the holidays as well. So homeschooling won’t be the best idea for them as they love to socialise with other kids. The whole school setting works for them.
  3. A lot of work – Homeschooling is a lot of work like I said earlier, and the kids being in school helps me work and stay on top of chores, and so on. As a work from home mummy, I do most of my work while the kids are in school, so homeschooling won’t work for us now.

In conclusion

The cons of homeschooling outweighs the pros, which is why we didn’t go down the homeschooling route. What are your thoughts on this? Do you homeschool your children? What are the pros and cons for you? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below. Let’s chat.

L.O.L Surprise Pop Up Store Playset

*Affiliate link.

My daughter is L.O.L Surprise obsessed! She is so into the whole L.O.L brand thanks to the many YouTube unboxing videos she watches. She started off loving My Little Pony and has collected pretty much all the ponies now. We are now (very) slowly building her L.O.L Surprise Dolls collection. She has about 7 dolls at the moment and we are looking at getting some more L.O.L dolls in the next few weeks to add to it. Which is why I got this L.O.L Surprise Pop Up Store to store all her dolls nicely.

This Pop Up Store has come in very handy already. Usually, we have the dolls and the accessories all over the house. Which is why a few of the dolls and accessories are missing as I type. But thankfully, all that would be a thing of the past with this new storage playset.

This L.O.L Surprise Pop Up Store is a 3-in-1 playset, display and carrying case!

Display Store

It can store up to 50 dolls and accessories, which is great. It looks great in her bedroom. We love the bright pink colour and the sparkly finish. It is such a beauty. This Pop Up Store has plenty of storage for the accessories, lil sisters dolls and more. We love it!

Playset

This  L.O.L Surprise Pop Up Store has a couple of play areas. They include chic cafe, fashion boutique, and pizza parlour! This playset would definitely give your little one hours of fun, especially if they are into role play like my little diva.

Carrying Case

This L.O.L Surprise Pop Up Store also changes to a carrying case. This is a really handy feature because it means your little one can take a couple of her L.O.L dolls with her on holiday. I think this is one of the best features of this playset.

Instagold Exclusive L.O.L Doll

Another great part with the playset is the fact that it comes with an exclusive L.O.L Doll. We got Instagold which my daughter absolutely adores. It looks super good, and the accessories are super chic!

Final thoughts

Overall, we recommend this L.O.L Surprise Pop Up Store Playset. The only issue I have with it is with the bottom layer. It kind of moves easily. It would have been better if it was more sturdy. Another issue is the fact that the L.OL. Dolls that stand easily. It can be a little difficult putting them to stand upright. And the dolls can’t stand if the shoes are missing. You need the right shoes that came with the dolls to get them to stand upright.

Apart from the issues above, everything else is as it should be. It currently retails for £39.99 at most good toys stores. You can grab it here. Many call this playset pricy but I think it is just ok price wise. The L.O.L fans adore it and I can see why.

Back to School with Tesco F&F Clothing

The kiddies start Reception aka Big School in September, and they are really looking forward to it. We have been busy shopping for back to school items in time for the school term. And I proud to say we now have all we need for school. I rounded up the school shopping some days ago, and I just need to find the time to label all the items with name tags in time for school. I did most of my back to school shopping online and only popped into shops for school uniforms and a few other school essentials.

What we got from Tesco

We had the opportunity to try out Tesco F&F School Uniforms some weeks ago thanks to some Vouchers we got from Tesco. So we popped into our local Tesco store to pick some school uniforms. We got 2 packs of white polo shirts, 1 grey pinafore dress and a pack of grey trousers from Tesco F&F Back to School range. The first thing we did as soon as we got home was to try every item to make sure they were the right fit. The kiddies were really excited to try out their new uniforms (anything Big School related is a hit at the moment). And they were more excited when they realised I was going to be taking some photographs.

Thoughts on the girls school uniform range

I am really impressed with the overall quality of Tesco F&F uniforms. They look like they would last a very long time. I like the White Teflon Polos. The light price tag of £2.50 for a pack of 2 polo shirts got my attention. That is a great bargain. Plus the shirts look very durable and the Stain Repellent Teflon means the Polos would stay white for longer. Which is exactly what I want them to do. Kids are usually very active. And most times they come out of their classrooms looking like the rolled in sand. So having these white polo shirts with a stain repellent technology would make my laundry life a lot easier.

The Girls Polo White has a beautiful collar design which my daughter really likes. It is so cute and girly. We also like the grey pinafore dress. It is such a pretty design with the neat pleats and silver zip. My little lady is really looking forward to wearing it to primary school.

Thoughts on the boys school uniform range

The 2 pack grey slim leg trousers is a great fit for my son. The trouser length is perfect. I like the adjustable waist and the slim leg design a lot. The re-enforced knees are also handy to have especially when you have active children like mine. Both my kids are really active, especially my son. So I am happy to know his new school trousers comes with  reinforced knees. The trousers look like quality pieces that would stand the test of time.

Having shopped the Tesco F&F School Clothing Range, I can now see why the range is so popular with many mothers all over the country. The Tesco F&F Uniform is Mumsnet Rated. 262 Mumsnet users tested the Tesco F&F school uniform range: 82% would buy again and 75% would recommend.  These stats don’t surprise me. I can clearly see why 82% would buy again, and why 75% would recommend the range. The great quality of the school uniforms speak for themselves.

Final thoughts

I really the Tesco 100 day guarantee. It shows Tesco is certain about the quality and durability of their school uniform range and that speaks is really amazing. This means parents can shop in confidence because they know they can exchange the uniform if it wears out within 100 days. The thought of that alone makes me really happy. And I can’t wait to see what these school uniforms look like after 100 days of wear.

I will be updating this post once we have had 100 days of wear. And I will be informing you all on how the school uniform pieces look. So keep an eye out for that update on here and my Instagram page.

100 Days Later

The uniforms still look as good as new. The whites are still whites and the greys are still grey. There are no tears or stubborn stains on the pieces  They have survived 100 days of wear and they look as great as they looked the first day the twins wore them. I am very impressed with the quality of F&F informs and I will be shouting from the rooftops about them.
