Style tips for when you are on the job

When it comes to an office environment, it is very important to get your outfit right. I remember how I dressed back in the day when I had an office based job. It is important to look smart and professional on all days, even on dress down days. You need to get the balance right – looking smart and comfortable while doing your job.

Here are some style tips you may find useful when you are on the job –

Add a touch of your company

At my last office based job, we had printed work shirts and silicone wristbands we wore to work regularly. They helped raise brand awareness and they looked really stylish. Clothing and accessories with your company information is a great way to support the business and it also creates a form of togetherness.

You can implement a touch of your company into your work attire. The easiest way to do this successfully is to add accessories with the company information in your outfit. For example, Lancaster Printing’s silicone wristbands are customisable and are a great way to get this right.

Dress to impress

When it comes an office setting, it is very important for you to dress to impress. Dress down days are no exceptions. My last office job was in a call centre in Manchester, and we had a very relaxed way of dressing. I always ensured I looked smart every day. I didn’t go into work in heels everyday but I made sure my clothes and accessories were clean, smart and well put together. It amazes how I see many people dressing to work. Some come in wearing very tight miniskirts and cropped tops, which I think is just trashy. I have also seen many workers wearing ripped jeans or sky-high heels and being unable to walk in them.

Dressing to impress is a very important style tip for every office setting. We should all ensure we dress the way we want to be addressed.

Let your personality shine through

When it comes to fashion and style, I always advise anyone to stick to trends they like but you also need to remember you are in an office setting. So the trends you do like must be appropriate for the office. The fact that you are digging the ripped denim trend does that mean it is acceptable to wear them to the office.

When you wear pieces you are drawn to and style them in your own way, your personality would shine right through and it makes you stand out even more.

Invest in your pieces

You should spend a little bit more to ensure your office pieces stand the test of time. A classic skirt or trouser suit is worth investing a bit of money in. You would be spending more money on a great quality suit than you would spend on a great pair of jeans, so get your wallet ready. The better the fabric and lining of your piece, the more expensive it would be.

So you won’t be far behind in the upcoming trends, I put together a list of fashion trends you’ll see in 2019. Here are fashion trends you should look out for 2019.

  1. Eco-friendly outfits

There has been a lot of news about eco-friendly fashion. So it’s not much of a surprise that eco-friendly fashion will be a leading trend in 2019. As more people are moving towards being very conscious of the environment, more people will be stocking eco-friendly pieces in their wardrobe.

Eco-friendly outfits are outfits made of materials that are biodegradable. They cause less havoc to the environment. Oftentimes, these eco-friendly materials are produced by ethical brands who have the interest of the environment at heart.

As more people are becoming more conscious of the environment, we’re definitely going to see more people wearing eco-friendly pieces.

  1. Silk and satin tops

2019 will witness the comeback of silk and satin tops. Although they were quite popular in the year 2000, there has been a recent interest in those pieces. You may have seen silk and satin tops show up in some stores and even seen some people wearing them. But expect more of these next year as their popularity is bound to increase.

Silk and satin tops are usually sold in form of camisoles making it a great piece to layer with your jeans for a casual look or trousers for a more corporate look.

  1. Pleated skirts

Pleated skirts have been known to be versatile pieces. 2019 seems like it will be a year of variety in the fashion scene. Pleated skirts have the ability to help you achieve comfort and still be chic at the same time.

In 2019 we will see a lot of pleated skirts of all shapes and sizes. So whether you choose to rock a maxi pleated skirt or a mini pleated skirt, just know that you’ll be covered with this versatile piece throughout 2019.

  1. Sequin jumpsuits

Jumpsuits have been a favourite in the fashion industry. In 2019 jumpsuits will be a trend but with a little twist. It appears that more people will want to add some glitter to their wardrobe with sequin jumpsuits.

Sparkly sequin jumpsuits are fun and stylish. They are definitely the “it” pieces for parties and other festive events. Of course as the season demands, there will be more practical variations that you can wear on more casual occasions. But if you’re one who’s into having fun, then this is the fashion trend you should look out for.

Style Tips for the Smart Casual Look

Smart casual is another look I love styling. It is quite easy to get this look right. If you read my last fashion post about rocking the casual daywear look, then you will know all about my love for the trend. The smart casual look is also close to heart. It is another look I found myself styling pretty much everyday some years ago when I worked for an energy company in Manchester.

For those who are not sure what this trend is all about, here is a definition for you. The Oxford Dictionary defines the smart causal look as “neat, conventional, yet relatively informal in style, especially as worn to conform to a particular dress code” Here are some style tips that may come handy if you intend to style the smart casual look –

Get a blazer

Rocking a blazer is one of the easiest way to add smartness to a causal look. A blazer has the power to add a touch of class to your regular casual look. And it does so effortlessly.

Knee-length pieces

My love for smart causal became stronger when I became a Mummy in 2013. It is easier to attend an event with twins looking dressed in a smart causal outfit than going all out with heels and minis. The smart casual look is easy to nail with knee-length dresses and skirts rather than minis.

Linen works in the warmer months

In the summer, linen works great for styling this look. Opt for chic linen trousers instead of jeans or leggings.

Add a clutch

A stylish clutch adds some more glam to your look. Go for an all-purpose clutch with some subtle beading to get this look right. I am usually not a clutch girl but I have invested in a couple this year, and I am glad I did. They are super handy to have around.

Are you a fan of the smart causal look? What do you like about it?
