Free Summer Activities for Kids

School is shutting for summer in about 4 weeks, so it makes sense to have plans for the 6 weeks summer break. Money can be tight for many of us and let’s face, we all need free summer activities to keep the kids busy, regardless of how rich we may be. You can’t be on a beach or in a theme park every day for 6 weeks, so you have to think ahead of how to keep the little ones engaged.

I have lots planned for the summer holidays. As a work from home mum, working at home with the kids can be hard.  I will be planning lots of different activities and be fitting in work around our schedule, so everyone is happy.

Here are some free summer activities for kids we will be making the most of –

Go for walks

We love to go for walks. The kids enjoy being outdoors so we will be going for lots of long walks in our area.  There is something so refreshing about being outdoors especially when the weather is nice. It is a good way to get those steps in and stay fit. Plus, fresh air and sunshine does wonders for our state of mind so make the most of this free activity with the kids this summer.

Make the most of your garden space

Now I know I am so guilty of not making the most of our garden. We don’t use our garden as much as we should and that is going to change this summer. I am going to get fun stuff for the kids to play with and make the garden as child-friendly as possible. It is amazing how running around and playing can keep the kids so busy for hours.

Riding bicycles and scooters

We have spots in our estate where kids can ride their scooters and bicycles safely away from the road and cars. We are going to be visiting the spot quite regularly. I like being able to sit on a bench and watch the kids ride safely. It is another exciting activity for them to do outside the house, and it is free once you have the bike/scooter and safely accessories!

Visit your local playground

I will be visiting the local playground with the kids. Luckily for us, it is not far away from where we live, so we will be making the most of it. The kids enjoying playing on the slides, swings and the other rides. We can easily spend an hour there. A good spot to spend an afternoon.

Baking

For days when the weather is not playing nice, we will be baking indoors. The twins are very into baking now and are interested in the whole process. So, we will be doing a lot of baking this summer. It is a fun educative activity for the whole family.

Camping in the garden

Camping in the garden is on our list this summer. It is something we have never done but want to do, and I think the right time is the summer. We will be getting a tiny camping tent and all the necessary camping gear to make it as much fun as possible.

These are just some examples of free summer activities we will be doing this summer holiday. Of course, we will be doing other paid activities like soft play, theme park, visiting a farm, and the likes. But more of free activities, so a lot of thinking outside the box.

Summer Adventures – My Son Thinks He’s Lightning McQueen

I believe schools have closed in the UK, and the summer adventures are now in full swing. The Kiddies had their end of term party yesterday and it was good fun. They enjoyed the food and the chance to play with their friends; some they may never see again. I enjoyed it too. It was a chance for me to watch them and take it all in, until the heavens opened. Of all days to rain, the rain decided to pour down yesterday and it almost messed up our garden party.

Now that the kids are home for 6 weeks and we have no holidays planned at the moment, I am looking to keep them busy as much as I can. We have a couple of days out planned for the next few weeks. And we may still go for a last minute Europe holiday break somewhere, so that is not completely ruled out.

Since I am looking to keep them busy, out and about, their bikes and scooters are going to used a lot this summer holiday. We had the pleasure of receiving some bike helmets and gloves from the lovely people at Kiddimoto the other day. The kids love their new helmets and gloves, and I love them too.

VALENTINO ROSSI BICYCLE HELMET £42

This lovely helmet is for my son. I went for the 5+ size (MEDIUM: 53-58CM (AGE 5+)) and it suits him perfectly. The design is also so colourful and beautiful. Great for the summery weather.

OFFICIALLY LICENSED EVEL KNIEVEL CHILDREN’S HELMET £42

This stunning helmet is for my daughter and she adores the striking design. I got this in the medium size as well (53-58CM – AGE 5+), and it suits her perfectly with plenty to grow into. The last thing you would need is to have your kids wear small/uncomfortable helmets while riding their bikes or scooters. Apart from it being a pain to put on, it is also not safe when it is the wrong size.

KIDS BLACK CYCLING GLOVES £10.50

They both got these Kiddimoto Gloves to protect their little hands while riding. The gloves helps them stay comfortable and safe while out and about on their bikes. My son thinks he is Lightning McQueen when he is on his scooter, partly because he has a Lightning McQueen Scooter. So I have to keep up with him and make sure he is well dressed for the ride.

Have a lovely sunny day!

What shoes to choose for a summery day date to the beach

Summery days with the warm breeze kissing the face is a blessing that we want to have 365 days a year in our lives. Sadly, our demographics don’t allow so. After being catapulted by the grim winters and autumn for a major chunk of the year, summer truly is the time to rejoice and get our bikinis out. The perfect weather makes it the best time to go to the beach, enjoy some chilled margaritas with the girlies and lie as the salt water and cool breeze calm our senses.

The idea of going to a beach in pitch winters is a foolish one. So a person who loves the sea looks forward to the summer and spring season, for a beach holiday to let the hair down. And it’s pretty worth it, too. The beach has this eerie sense of calm about it and soothes the soul of the most mentally wounded people. There’s not one reason why a person shouldn’t be visiting the beach when the time is right in the year.

Besides, this is time, when women can truly flaunt their skin and curves without getting a chill to their bones! The colourful bikinis come out, the skimpy bathing suits are flaunted and beautiful legs make a foray into the world. The beach is such a wonderful place to be!

Beach fashion for the feet

The only part about beaches that haunt women is the amount of sand that sticks to your body. Especially when it gets to all parts of footwear; no matter what you wear on your feet. While people may walk barefoot on the sand, it’s not advisable as shells or little crabs may give your feet the worst time.
So, here are the best types of footwear you could be wearing on your trip to the beach –

1. Flip-flops

A no-brainer, really; flip-flops are your best bet. They are made of rubber and no amount of sand or water will affect their longevity. One tap along each other and all the sand come off of them. Besides, the vibrant and haute colours in flip flops will make you choose more than one!

2. Gladiator flats

These are the best, if you are going to be wearing a bikini or a short swimsuit. It will not only make walking in the sand comfortable, but will also give your bare legs a dimension. And you can always choose the length of the gladiator flat sandal as per your choice.

3. Tie-leg sandals

Again, if you are going to be flaunting those legs on the beach, give your legs an element to flaunt too. The tie-leg flat sandals are available in so many types; plain Jane, tasselled sandals and even the fringed ones; there’s a lot to choose from.

4. Crocs

Crocs and beaches go hand-in-hand. If you have nothing in your closet, a pair of crocs will let you survive. These let your feet breathe and are super comfortable. As the Crocs  strikes your feet, they will not stick to your skin and will give you an easy time.

5. Slip ons or slide ons

Given the fact, that you are going to remove your footwear a lot of times and then wear it again, you need something that is easy to wear and not takes much time to come off. For this purpose, slip ons and slide on are best. They come in so many styles; you can choose from the mini wedge or the light wedge, there’s the double strap or the single strap or even the cross over strap!

What sort of footwear do you have packed in your summer hoiliday suitcase?
