Ten ways to spend your evenings indoors now it is coming into winter

The sun begins to set a little earlier, the temperature begins to drop and the leaves start to fall from the trees. These are all signs that winter is on its way and with it the amount of outdoors activities begins to decline.

The green fields that people would play football on during the summer have become muddy and less appealing for the casual player. Instead we seek refuge indoors, in the warm, where the weather won’t affect us. We have taken a look at ten ways you can spend your evenings indoors  as we head into winter that includes everything from watching Game of Thrones to playing bingo games.

Films & TV

Granted watching one film wouldn’t be enough, but maybe the entire extended Lord of the Rings trilogy will last as long as winter, or even watch every series of Game of Thrones and keep shouting “Winter is coming!” until the Spring returns the following year.

Read a book

There are probably people who find reading a book boring, but when your outdoor activities become more and more limited, settling down with a good book can be a nice relaxing alternative. You can sit in the warm, make yourself comfortable and just forget about the outside world as you get lost in a fantasy world.

If non-fiction is more of your thing, and you are looking into going pro with your blogging hobby, then go have a read of my book – How to Cash In as a Blogger. It is available exclusively on Amazon.

Bake

By the time winter arrives, the Great British Bake-Off will be over and with it, your baking enthusiasm may have waned but winter can be a great time to test out your baking skills. You can make some gingerbread men or make some Christmas cake and give some to those that need to stop being a Scrooge.

Plan your summer holiday

What better way to make yourself feel warm than to plan your summer holiday? You get to look at all of the sunny destinations and work out where the best location is to get a tan. If you want to make it feel more summery as you research locations, make a nice summer cocktail. You can also work out a plan to get that beach body you’re bound to be wanting come summer.

Ice skating

If you’re someone who actually enjoys the cold dark winters then you could give a winter sport a try. Ice skating can be good for both a workout and for being romantic with your partner.

Ski Picture

If it’s your first time trying it, make sure to take it slow. It’s not an easy sport to try, and injuries are common amongst beginners.

The pub

You could always treat winter like a zombie apocalypse. Just go to the Winchester, have a pint and wait for all of this to blow over. You’ll probably be kicked out of the pub at some point if you wait until winter is over. So perhaps just spend an evening in there having a few drinks and catching up with friends.

Games

Whether you enjoy playing the latest game on a console or enjoy sitting down to play a board game, games are a great way to pass the time. You can stay in your own home and let out a little bit of competitive energy. You should remember not to overdo it. No one wants broken console controllers or the game board to be flipped over.

Music

Spend some time listening to your favourite music artists and create some playlists to make the time fly by. If you listen to music while planning your summer holiday, you can also create a summer playlist to really distract you from the impending winter nights.

Puzzles

If you want to give your mind a bit of a workout then you can get stuck into some brain teasers. Most newspapers usually have a section dedicated to crosswords, Sudokus and word searches. Failing that you can always step outside and find books specifically for these brain teasers to have even more fun.

Bingo

Something that has embedded itself into British culture, Bingo is a great way to spend an evening as winter approaches. It’s a great way to socialise with your friends and provides you with the opportunity to make new ones too. There is also the potential for you to win some Christmas spending money along the way.

How do you plan to spend your evening indoors this winter? Do you have any plans?

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

Baby, it’s cold outside! It is painfully cold at the moment. I finding it extremely hard to get out of bed with the darkness and the chill in the air. I wish I could stay under my duvet, with a cup of tea, all day, but that is not my reality. My reality is, I need to get stuff done, which means my wake-up time is usually on or before 7am.

NEW FSP OOTD

How are you all coping with cold? I am indoors most of the time, so I am nice and warm. And when I need to step out, I make sure I am well layered up. I just recovered from an annoying flu (my first ever full blown flu), so I am not in the mood for any more sickness. If you spot me out and about, I will be rocking my many layers of clothing.

On cold days like this, I am grateful I work from home. It is a lot harder to earn a living working for yourself, that I know, but the pros outweigh the cons massively for me. And I appreciate that so much more in the winter months.

I am currently typing out this post from the comfort of my sofa, wearing my new fluffy nightgown, and I am happy with where I am at in life. I turn 30 in a few days, and I feel like I am in a good place. I can’t imagine any other job that could allow me work in my nightgown, so the flexibility of my job is the best part of it.

Speaking of nightgowns, I think I would need to get some shopping done. I am in need of some new pyjamas and nightgowns. I have a bit of an obsession with nightwear collections, but for someone who spends a great deal of time in my nightwear, I like to have quite a few. I have my eye on a few womens nightgowns by David Nieper, I need to check them out. In the winter months, I like my nightgowns thick and fluffy to retain the body heat, and David Nieper has a couple of warm fleece nightgowns that tick all the right boxes. I can picture myself wearing some of these comfy/stylish pieces already!

How are you keeping warm in this cold weather? Are you obsessed with your nightwear like I am? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Thanks for reading and commenting. Have an amazing week

How to Layer Like a Fashion Pro this Winter

When it comes to fashion, the way you layer your outfit is what will make you stand out from the crowd. This winter, there’ll be a lot of layering going on as the temperature keeps dropping. Layering will not only keep you warm but it will also make you look stylish, so long as you know how to do it right.

The trick behind layering your clothes like a fashion pro is knowing what type of clothes to place one over the other. Here is a breakdown of how you can layer this winter. With this guide, there’s no way you can go wrong.

Start off with a piece  that’s fitting and lightweight

Style Police

Layering starts from the inside out. One of the major fears of ladies when it comes to layering is looking bulky under all those clothes.  So if you see yourself looking bulky after layering, then the problem is from the first layer of clothing you have on.

To remedy this problem, start with a top that stays close to your body. That way whatever clothing you place over it will not make you look bulky. For example, your figure will show more if you wear sweater over a fitting blouse.

Let the first layer be a neutral colour then let the bright colours come afterwards

The colours you choose are very important. A rule of thumb is to make the first layer a neutral colour. When layering there’s a hierarchy of the colours you have to follow. White, beige and light blue are good colours to start with. The next layers can come in bright or dark colours like a navy blue jacket or a black sweater making your outfit more balanced.

For example a dark brown jacket over a beige blouse finished off with ruby-coloured earrings or necklace makes an amazing piece. The colours complement each other.

Mix in the different fabrics

H&M Jumper Post

Layering clothing items with the same kind of texture will make your outfit look heavy, monotonous and a bit overpowering.

Getting creative with the way you mix in different items will make your outfit more proportional. For example this winter you can wear a classic cotton collared shirt with a wooly cardigan over a pair of jeans. This way you have mixed cotton, wool and denim, thus creating a variety of textures on your outfit.

Vary the length of your outfits

Season Tweetings

Layering is all about maintaining the balance and keeping it stylish all through. The length of the clothes on each layer could change your whole look. But you need to keep in mind that in this case proportion is key.

How this works is to let the shorter items balance out the longer items. For example, a long coat over a short skirt will look flattering yet balanced, but a short jacket over a short skirt will make the outfit look out-of-place.

Following these layering tips will keep you looking stylish and toasty this winter.

How do you like to layer? Sound off in the comments section please.
