Less washing, more mositurising

Depending on your hair type, you may get away with washing your hair less often. I wash every couple of days and it works amazingly well for my hair type. I focus on moisturising to keep my scalp healthy and shiny. If you are battling with dry hair, try washing your hair less, maybe try going for a few more extra days without washing, and see how your hair feels. Also, increasing your moisturising does help massively. I moisturise my hair every day, sometimes twice a day and it is so beneficial.

Use Essential Oils

Many of you would know I am a huge fan of essential oils. I find them so useful to have and I use the oils in many different ways. My favourite essential oils for hair care are Rosemary, Tea Tree, and Peppermint. I add a few drops to a carrier oil, usually Coconut Oil or Black Seed Oil, and I massage it into my hair and scalp, and it makes a massive difference in how my hair feels and looks. If you are looking for new products to add to your hair care routine, do consider adding some Essential Oils.

Take Supplements

Taking good supplements daily is another way of improving your hair and scalp. There are so many options to choose from, depending on your age and requirements, so do have a look and go for one that would also help your hair. If you are taking good vitamins that would benefit your hair and scalp, you should start to notice some improvements within a few weeks.

Opt for Great Hair Products

When it comes to hair products, like with most things, always go for quality over quantity. There’s no need to use a bunch of cheap hair products that do not improve your hair or scalp. It is a letter better to use fewer, high-end, quality hair products that would do the work.  I always read reviews and product descriptions to get an idea of what the product is like before committing to a purchase, and I usually opt for the smallest-sized bottle available just to be on the safe side.

Avoid Heat Styling and Air Drying

Now this tip is so important. If you have dry hair, you would want to avoid heat styling and air drying. Wrapping your hair after a wash is more beneficial for the health of your hair, than air drying. Heat styling can do more damage than good in the long run, so it is best avoided if your hair is really dry.

Dry hair can be a pain to care for but it is possible to give your hair proper TLC and leave it looking fab regardless of how dry it may be.

The benefits of protective hairstyles

With summer on its way, I am looking forward to wearing more of my natural hair. My hair is usually in a protective style (plaits/twists) and then I wear my wigs, but with the warmer weather coming through, I am excited to style my hair the way Mother Nature intended. I am also looking forward to some good old retail therapy and looking out for some cool deals on hair accessories and hair products.

Having my natural hair mainly in protective styles has some amazing benefits. Here are a few of them –

Retains hair length

One of the most amazing benefits of protective hairstyles is that they help retain hair length. Protective hair styles as the name implies protect hair roots and tips, which leads to retaining hair length, which is a big deal for us coily hair girls.

Easy to maintain

Protective hairstyles are naturally very easy to maintain daily. Once done, all it needs is daily moisturising and you are good to go! I usually moisturise with water from a spray bottle and hair oils – coconut oil and black seed oil, and since it is so easy to maintain, the hair does not need to be manipulated or bothered as much.

Aids hydration

If you are struggling to retain hair moisture, protective hairstyles are what you need because it aids hydration. The issue of moisture escaping would be a thing of the past with protective hairstyles as the hair would retain moisture and stay healthy.

Helps with hair growth

Another great benefit is that protective hairstyles encourage hair growth as a result of all the amazing benefits already listed. Also, it helps with hair growth by reducing hair breakage. So if you are looking at growing your hair, do incorporate protective hairstyles into your haircare routine.

Allows you to wear stylish wigs

Protective hairstyles keep your hair safely and nicely tucked away and allow you to wear stylish wigs, which is nice. I like being able to switch up my looks as often as I like, and wigs allow me to do this easily and quickly.
