Product Review: Cucumber Sandwiches Exfoliating Body Scrub

Body Scrub Image

I love the name of this product, it sounds like a yummy meal, and it is a yummy exfoliating body scrub. I received this Cucumber Sandwiches Exfoliating Body Scrub SPAfternoon tea by Cognito Bath & Body some weeks ago, and I have used it quite a few times now. This is the first hand-made skin care product I have ever use so I was quite fascinated by it.

Here is the product description:

Cucumber Sandwiches is a beautiful scent – a light, fresh fragrance with hints of cucumber, apple and soft marine combined with floral notes of rose, white jasmine and waterlily on a base of cedar and vanilla.

These little beauties contain Sugar & fine Sea Salt; Rice Bran, Apricot Kernel & Sunflower Oils and Shea Butter & Coconut Oil. You just need to use once or twice a week to leave your skin feeling beautifully soft & moisturised.

The addition of Shea & Coconut Butter means that the scrub sets semi solid & the grainy bits don’t go pinging off everywhere! Less mess in your bath or shower!

Here are my thoughts on the product:

PROS

  1. I love the cute packaging and the creative name. This product is sure to get a lot of attention.
  2. I love the fresh fragrance. This body scrub leaves your skin and bathroom smelling beautifully.
  3. I applied the product in the shower, and rinsed off after some minutes. It did the job! It left my skin feeling and looking soft and silky smooth.
  4. I love the fact that this product was hand-made. I will be using more hand-made products because this is so effective.
  5. It is quite affordable at £11.99 for a 200ml PET jar.

CONS

  1. Like any other body scrub, it can leave a little mess, and also leave the shower room/bath a bit slippery so be careful.

I will recommend this Cucumber Sandwiches Exfoliating Body Scrub SPAfternoon tea to anyone needing a little home skin pampering. It does what it says on the jar.

Drugstore vs High-end Makeup Brands

I am a makeup lover, always have and always will be. The art of applying good makeup is a very powerful skill. It takes the right tools and products to get the job done. The right makeup can turn any plain Jane to a beautiful goddess, so I had to learn the skill for myself. Thanks to YouTube and the very talented beauty vloggers, who upload beauty tutorials, I have fine tuned my makeup skills for the better. With a lot of practice, I am better than how I was years ago. I am still learning though, as long as we keep living, we keep learning right?

My makeup bag at the moment is all about MAC, Mary Kay, Fashion Fair, The Body Shop, FACE atelier and a few other brands. It is currently a mixture of high-end and drugstore brands, but more of high-end, and MAC in particular, and I will like to change that this year. I will like to experiment with NARS, Barry M, Charlotte Tilbury, Tom Ford, and Illamasqua. I have had my eye on these beauty brands for a while now, thanks to the millions of blogs YouTube beauty channels.

When it comes to makeup or pretty much anything, I prefer high-end brands to the cheap drugstore brands, because I have been there and done that, and the fact remains, these brands are cheap for a reason. I have used and still use many drugstore makeup brands and majority of them are no good, no shade intended, just my honesty opinion. There is a reason why MAC goes for £15.50 and a regular drugstore brand goes for £6.50 per lipstick.

The cheaper brands are usually not long-lasting, and one thing I need is for my makeup to stay in place for at least 12 hours. I can live with touch ups here and there, when required, but I can’t live with applying my makeup, only for it all to completely disappear after a meal or a long walk. Having said that I do remember going into a John Lewis some months ago to test out a high-end face powder, I heard so much about thi particular face powder so I was eager to try it out. It was for about £30, so it was quite pricey. I was extremely disappointed after the face powder was applied on my face, it looked like I had NOTHING on. Definitely not worth the £30 price tag or maybe the beauty consultant got my shade wrong. Whatever the case may have been, the experience left a bitter taste in my mouth, and I was glad I did not order it online before trying.

I guess the jury is kind of out on whether most high-end makeup brands last longer and look better than the drugstore brands.

Another issue I have is, majority of these drug store makeup brands here in the UK come in limited shades, for example, I am unable to get my shade of powder, concealer or foundation in a regular drug store. I find most of them do not cater to the black skin, even if some of them claim they do. I know some pale skin ladies also struggle to get their right shades too. I have discovered that the ‘expensive’ do the work, and cater to my skin colour, so I don’t bother with cheap brands.

I am one of those people who look at the price of a beauty product before buying. I believe beauty does not come cheap and I have tried and tested many products on both ends and I still believe it. What do you think? I will love to read your views. Drop me a comment.

Product Review: BlanX Teeth Advanced Whitening Range

Hey peoples. If you remember, I gave away a set of Blanx Teeth Advanced Whitening Range some months ago. Well, I have reviewed the products and I have quite a lot to say about them, so grab a cuppa and enjoy the read.

BlanX Range

There are 4 products in all, so I am going to discuss them individually.

BlanX Advanced Whitening Toothpaste 100ml

The first whitening toothpaste to be based on ingredients derived from natural Arctic Lichen. Its non-abrasive formula cleans deeply and gently without damaging enamel, killing bacteria and plaque and protecting the teeth

Here are my thoughts:

PROS

  1. It cleans the teeth thoroughly.
  2. It is quite affordable at £7.49.
  3. I noticed my teeth went about 2 shades whiter so it does the job.

CONS

  1. I noticed this toothpaste and all the other BlanX products do not leave my mouth smelling fresh. The minty fresh breath you get from using a regular toothpaste, you don’t get with any of the BlanX products. I always find myself having to use my regular, ordinary toothpaste at the end just to achieve fresh breath.

BlanX Classic White Toothpaste 75ml

The first whitening toothpaste to be based on ingredients derived from natural Arctic Lichen. Its non-abrasive formula cleans deeply and gently without damaging enamel, killing bacteria and plaque and protecting the teeth. All the benefits of BlanX Advanced Whitening in a tube.

Here are my thoughts:

PROS & CONS

  1. It performs pretty much the same as way the Advanced Whitening Toothpaste performs, but an extra benefit is the price at £5.49, but it is slightly smaller at 75ml. You would need either one of them to get the job done, not both.

BlanX Intensive Stain Removal 75ml

Its unique formula removes stains and pigmentation due to smoking, food, beverages and plaque deposits.

Here are my thoughts:

PROS

  1. It is an OK toothpaste.

CONS

  1. I did not notice any difference in my teeth while using this toothpaste.
  2. It did not leave my mouth smelling fresh and clean.
  3. It felt like a had soap on my teeth. I did not like the texture of the toothpaste at all.
  4. At £7.49 for a 75ml tube, I rather go for a regular toothpaste.

Extrawhite Intensive Whitening Treatment 30ml

An intensive whitening treatment to remove stains fast and restore teeth to their natural whiteness. The special triple action formula has an increased concentration to act quickly, effectively and safely. Use twice a day for two weeks, four times a year for best results, using your normal BlanX® toothpaste in between.

PROS

  1. My teeth went about 3 shades whiter in about 2 weeks.
  2. It is quite affordable at £10.49 for a 30ml pack.
  3. It cleans my teeth thoroughly.
  4. My mouth felt fresh after using this whitening treatment unlike the other BlanX products.

CONS

  1. The tube is too small. I wish it came in a bigger size.

Well, those are my thoughts. To be honest, I am yet to find the toothpaste that performs a 100% what it says on the pack. I usually find an expensive trip to the dentist does the whitening job a lot faster and easier.  Guess that is why the whitening treatment at the Dentist is so freaking expensive.

Have you tried any of these products? Sound off in the comment section.
