Polka dots are fast becoming a fashion statement. They add fun and playfulness to our outfits. As influencers and celebrities show up more in their polka dot ensembles, it’s only natural to expect more polka dot outfits this spring. So how will you style polka dots this spring?
It seems like the fashion conscious have caught a wind of how versatile polka dots outfits can be. Whether you wear them at formal occasions, to work or causal outings, polka dots have proven to be a must-have item in your wardrobe.
Since we’re anticipating more polka dots this season, here are ways to style them.
Pair polka dots with a solid coloured piece
This is an age-old unfailing rule when it comes to styling polka dot clothing items. Pair your polka dot top with solid coloured pattern-less bottoms, like a skirt or trousers and you can never go wrong.
The fashion favourite is the monochrome – black and white polka dots layered on solid black or solid white. Red polka dots are also a fashion favourite and if you stick to this rule you’ll have yourself a well-put together outfit.
Pair polka dots with other patterns
This may seem counter-intuitive with the first tip, but I have observed how 2018 fashion is tilting towards a bold and adventurous theme. And that includes styling with polka dots. Although it breaks the ancient rule of matching polka dots with solid colours, this combination adds a lot of creativity to your outfit.
Play around with pairing polka dots with other patterns like stripes or checks to add some adventure and edginess to your outfit.
Style with bright and cold colours
Polka dots do really well not only with the famous black and while. They work great with bright colours like yellow and orange which perfectly depicts the spring time.
Don’t be afraid to go bold and venture into more yellows, oranges, bright blues and pinks. Pair them with your polka dots pieces to add a lot of fun and playfulness with the bright and bold background. It works perfectly either way whether it is a bright top or bottom.
Embrace polka dot one-piece clothing
Spring has an easy laid back vibe which people express in their choice of clothing. A good example is easy to slip on clothing like maxi dresses and jumpsuits.
This is an ensemble not many women are comfortable pulling off because of the overwhelming number of polka dots. However, you can always break the pattern with a fashionable solid coloured hat, a pair of boots or heels, a waist belt or a clutch purse.
Compliment your outfit with polka dot accessories
Polka dots are not only fashionable with clothing items, they look amazing as accessories. Polka dots are always eye-catching so even a touch of polka dots can make your outfit stand out.
For low neck top, layer a polka dot scarf. If you’re wearing solid colours all through, compliment them with a polka dot handbag or clutch purse. Those are enough to inject fun into your outfits.
Layer over jeans
Another classic is complimenting a polka dot top with a pair of jeans. This combination never grows old. It’s relaxed and casual; just perfect for the springtime. You can also add more denim like a denim jacket over a polka dot top to nail that playful yet relaxed look.

Love the polka dots! I’ve always been a strips girl, but reckon I could give this ago!
Go for it Laura.
I have to admit that polka dots scare me. I think I own one top but rarely wear it. I do wish I was more of a risk taker as some of the polka dot fashions I’ve seen are gorgeous.
You could try wearing it this year. You may like it. But I do understand what you mean.
I love polka dots – its something I always radiate to when i see it
Me too Kara.
Polka dots seem so feminine and am glad to see them back!
