How to Make Clothes Look Expensive

There are times when you have to style on a budget, but doesn’t mean that you can’t look like a million bucks. For as long as I can remember, there has been a huge misconception about dressing and making your clothes look expensive. How do we make clothes look expensive? Many ladies believe that they won’t look classy and expensive unless they buy really expensive clothing or accessories. I don’t blame them as looking expensive is usually associated with expensive brands.

I have done a lot of experimenting with my outfits, accessories and grooming, and I have discovered 6 ways you can make your clothes look expensive.

Develop a sophisticated carriage

I know that this tip will come as a surprise to you, but the way you wear your clothes plays a huge role in how expensive you look. If you wear your clothes and walk around with a slouch, no matter how expensive the clothes you put on are, you won’t look classy at all.

The secret is in the way you carry yourself. Walk with your head held high and full of confidence. Even with the simplest of all clothing can look very appealing if you wear it with an air of confidence.

Make your clothes look expensive with Accessories

The smallest item can make the biggest difference. If you want your clothes to look expensive, then you need to choose your accessories wisely.

Gold accessories can make any outfit look expensive. Pearl necklaces, earrings and bracelets have the same powerful effect. You can also put on large jewellery for that flattering look.

Go for black

Don’t under-estimate the power of the colour black. Black outfits are characterized as formal attire. Let’s face it, black looks expensive, whether you wear a black dress, black skirt or a black blouse.

The best thing about black is that it is simple and it goes with anything. It also enhances the beauty of your accessories against the black. So if you wear anything black, you can never go wrong.

Stick to classic pieces

Sometimes we get carried away thinking that looking expensive means wearing more clothes than usual. The truth is that you don’t need to go too far or think too hard to look expensive.

Classic pieces like a collared blouse tucked in a black pencil skirt or a maxi dress in a pastel colour can make you look expensive.

Have your clothes tailored

Not every outfit comes out perfect. And sometimes with some tweaks here and there, you can make your outfits look fabulous.

Fitting clothing that shows your shape makes your clothes look expensive. Adding a couple of simple embellishments or removing some of the parts that are not necessaries could make the biggest change in your outfits.

Keep your makeup and nails neutral

Aside from dressing well, accessorizing and proper carriage, neutral makeup and nails can make you look expensive. You may think that it may not make much of a difference, but that’s not true. Your makeup and nails all have a role they play in your final look.

What do you think of these style tips? Do you have any tested and tried tip of making your clothes look expensive?

What is the Proper Attire for a Banquet

Sometimes, figuring out the attire when invited to a banquet becomes problematic. Banquets can be formal or informal. To choose the appropriate attire for a banquet, one must know how formal the invitation is. At times, dress codes are also mentioned with the banquet invitation which makes it quite easier to choose the attire.

It is better to pay some attention while considering the attire rather than wearing the wrong thing and getting embarrassed. The theme of the occasion and the formality of the function can best describe what should be worn. Terani Couture’s banquet dresses can help you in taking this decision if you put forward the details of the occasion in front of them.

Here are some banquet style tips you may find handy –

Formal Banquet

A lot of hard work and efforts are put into organising a formal banquet so one must show some respect by dressing according to the event. You can also ask the host for guidance if you are unsure about what the term ‘formal’ means. Let the season, invitation and hours be your guide to dress up. For formal banquets, men can choose to wear any black or any other dark coloured suit along with conservative accessories. Black or white bow tie can give any formal attire a complete look.

Men should avoid wearing khakis, white jackets and polo shirts. For women, the most appropriate formal banquet attire can be any dark coloured gown. But they can also go for any black dress or skirt of cocktail length along with suitable accessories. Women can accessorise them by adding heels, dazzling clutch and swaying earrings. Flat sandals, maxi dresses and pantsuits are a big no for formal banquets.

Semi formal Banquet

Choosing a semi formal attire is a bit tricky, as it is a step down from the formal attire but quite formal if compared with the casual attire. Among all dress codes, semi formal is the most confusing one. Men can wear any dark coloured suit paired up with some light coloured shirt. Tie is optional when it comes to semi formal dress code. Leather shoes will be the best match with this dress code. Women can go for any dress or pantsuit that comes in a dressy fabric like silk or satin. The best length for such events is a little above the knee. At such occasions, women can wear any flat sandals and fashion jewellery. Women have a lot of variety in semi formal attire.

Informal Banquet

Any casual attire is acceptable in these informal banquets. Men can go for polo shirts, jeans, khakis, sports coats or any nice t-shirts. They can pair up the dress with loafers or trainers. Depending on the season or occasion, men can also go for wearing a blazer or sweat shirt. Women can go for any nice shirt paired with skirts or jeans. They can also wear some short dress with frills or bows. They can choose any flat leather shoes along with the accessories that suit the dress and occasion. Just remember that being too loud will not look good when it comes to wearing the right attire for a banquet.

OOTD: Casual Style

I took these photos the other day in London. The weather was nice and I was in the mood for some outfit photos. I am loving the casual style look this summer. I find it dead comfy and so easy to style. It literally takes me minutes to put an outfit together, and as a busy mum of 2, every minute counts.

I need my outfits to be totally comfortable, but yet very stylish! The kids are on summer holidays for the next few weeks, so that means we are super busy, trying to make the most of what we have left of summer (weather permitting), and juggling all sorts. Life is incredibly busy at the moment, but I won’t have it any other way.

How to Rock the Casual Style Look

Here are 2 style tips I stick to –

Focus on the Accessories

Keep everything else cool, and focus on the accessories. In my case, I am drawing all the attention to my sandals and my sunnies and it works. For you to get the Casual Style look right, your accessories have to do the talking. So scarves, sunnies, hats, footwear, bags, should be the focus, and not the actual outfit. And not all at once. I see some people rocking their accessories collection all in 1 outfit. That is not a good look.

Stick to a maximum of 2 colours

For you to get the casual styling look right, you should stick to a maximum of 2 clothes (not counting black or white). Anything more would be a little too much for a casual look. I would also avoid colour blocking for a when it comes to nailing a casual style, and I rather opt for monochrome colours as they are safer and easier to style casual.
