4 top tips to keep a great complexion as you approach 30

Although ageing slows down the collagen production that keeps our skin looking healthy and young, there are a few ways that you can help to slow this natural process down. Here are 4 top tips that will make sure your complexion stays fresh as you begin to approach the big 3 0.

  1. Moisturise twice a day

The older we are, the harder it is for our skin to retain mositure. This is why it’s vital to moisturise your skin in the morning and at night. For your morning routine, use an SPF moisturiser under your primer before you apply your makeup. This will lock in moisture throughout the day. At night, it’s best to use a thicker cream as it is during this time that your skin repairs itself. As you are moisturising, ensure you massage your face as this will boost the production of collagen, which will make the skin look plumper and stimulate the lymph glands that help you achieve clearer skin.

  1. Be friends with SPF

You would have probably heard how important it is to keep your skin protected from the sun. Sun damage is the single biggest factor in premature ageing and leaving your skin unprotected can lead to problems such as hyperpigmentation, wrinkling, sagging and poor skin tone. There are a lot of foundations and moisturisers on the market that contain an element of SPF which means that you don’t have to apply a thick layer of sunscreen to your face every day.

  1. Eat the right foods

It’s certainly true that your diet directly affects the health of your skin. Eat foods that are rich in nutrients and amino acids and, if you haven’t already, introduce fibrous produce such as kale, sprouts and apples into your diet. Reduce your alcohol intake and cut back on the amount of sugar you consume as this can cause premature ageing through a process known as glycation. During glycation, excess sugar in the blood attaches itself to lipids, nucleic acids and proteins which advance the ageing process and lead to wrinkly skin. You can also pick up these nutrients through certain skincare products. Vegan skincare products in particular often include many natural ingredients such as chlorophyll, kale and maca root extracts that deliver essential vitamins to your skin.

  1. Take care of your eyes

The skin around our eyes is the thinnest and delicate on our face, and it is often the area that shows ageing the most. Keeping that part of the skin hydrated is important and can be done by using a serum or eye cream before bed. As you sleep, the formula sinks into the skin and decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, a good quality eye cream can protect the area from further damage, especially if it includes natural ingredients such as cucumber, arnica and ginseng, that can instantly hydrate and reduce puffiness.
