Fashion is always at the forefront of popular trends, and celebrities make up a large part of starting those trends. From super icons of the modern age like Kim Kardashian to classic Hollywood starlets like Brigitte Bardot, icons make a splash in the fashion world simply by being who they are and wearing what they wear. The power that celebrities wield can influence design trends for generations.

Well-known celebrities also often bring back dead or forgotten trends from years gone by. For example, everybody had forgotten about leopard print until Kate Moss famously began sporting leopard print on her handbags and custom clothing.

Tennis Bracelets

Tennis bracelets are incredibly fashionable these days; however, they weren’t really known so much until the talented tennis player Chris Evert famously wore one during a match. During a US Open face-off, her George Bedewi diamond bracelet snapped while she was playing. Before this, the diamond bracelets didn’t really have a name, and following the event forever became known as the “tennis bracelet”.

Makeup Contouring

Kim Kardashian is inextricably one of the most influential celebrities of the past 50 years. The American superstar became famous following the release of a private video, yet she managed to own the notoriety and landed her own TV show with her family. Since then, Kim has become one of the most famous people in the world and is known for her outrageous sense of fashion. However, one of the things she is best at is perfectly applying makeup contour that helps define facial features.

Smoky Eyes

Like Kim Kardashian, Brigitte Bardot is a Hollywood icon whose forward-thinking fashion still permeates throughout design trends to this day. Brigitte Bardot was known for many things about fashion, but one of her most notable contributions is the use of the smokey eyes look when applying makeup. The effect of smoking draws attention to the eyes and softens the surrounding facial features.

Toy Dog Bags

You probably cannot remember anybody ever walking around with a chihuahua in a bag before Paris Hilton started to do it. Throughout her TV show with Nicole Richie, Paris was often walking around with her pet dogs in cute little bags. The trend became famous thanks to Hilton. However, the practice is not recommended as many veterinarians actually condemn the use of dog bags since it prevents dogs from getting the exercise they need.

Uber Designer Clothing

The wearing of clothes by super designers such as Donna Karan or Rudolph Valentino became part of public perception just a few years ago. However, public awareness of such fashion designers came to the forefront when the super-chic comedian Joan Rivers famously asked many celebrities attending an Oscars ceremony “who they were wearing” as they entered the venue via the famous red carpet. Since then, it has become an expected part of the Academy Awards to see celebrities wearing one-of-a-kind outfits.

Naked Fashion

Naked fashion is a 21st-century concept because of how modern attitudes towards what women wear have changed, and women are allowed to express themselves far more than they were previously. The principle essentially uses clothing design to expose one area of the body, such as the entire leg, yet to cover another like the upper torso. Additionally, sheer clothing is also used to significant effect to see the body yet at the same time covers intimate areas. No celebrity can be credited with starting this trend, yet Kim Kardashian, Rhianna and the Hadid sisters are well-known for naked fashion.
