What Makes a House a Home

We have been living in our home for almost 5 years now, and we are forever redecorating. This won’t be our forever home. I can clearly see us outgrowing this house in a few years, but it works perfectly for now. This house has now become our home, and I am so in love with it. So what makes a house a home? Here are the 5 things that I believe make a house a home.

The People

The people you share you house with make it a home. The kids, the pets, and the grown up playing house all have a role in making a house feel more than just where you lay your head. The housemates make a house a home.

The Memories

If you know me well enough, you would know how I dislike moving from house to house. I get really attached with anywhere I stay because I am forever making memories. So I avoid moving as much as I can. However, if I do have to move, I make sure to employ the professionals so it is done quickly. I will look out for fantastic estate agents like Featherstone Leigh, home movers, cleaners and all.

My sister recently moved into a very nice house in London some weeks ago, and I like how she went about it. She got professional movers to move all the furniture and get them all set up in the new house. Her entire move went as planned with no issues at all. That is how I would want my house move to look like when we do move.

The Noise

My house is super noisy thanks to my very loud toddlers. I am so used to the noise, that it still feels so weird at night when they are fast asleep, and the house goes dead quiet. Or during the day, when they are in preschool and I have some peace and quiet. Having said that, I won’t trade the noise for anything. I feel lost without the chatter and the noise.

The Smell

My home has a distinct smell. I am forever burning candles, and I have quite a few diffusers scattered around the house. I like my home smelling very nice. The smell reminds me when I wake, that this is my home.

Good Food

What makes a house a home? Good food. My daughter knows what meal we are having before she sees it. She has a strong sense of smell, and is usually spot on when she guesses her meals. The smell of good food makes a house a home. There is nothing better than coming home to the smell of something baking in the oven. For many of us, a house isn’t a home until it is cooked in.
