The Lipstick is one of the most popular makeup products, and it is easy to see why it is so popular. It is one piece of makeup that can be easily applied quickly when you don’t have the time for anything else. The lipstick also has the power to instantly brighten up your face, and if you apply the right lipstick properly, it can create of illusion of your face looking more made up than it is.

 

The Origin of Lipsticks

Lipsticks first appeared over 5,000 years ago. Rumour has it that Cleopatra’s red lipsticks were made from finely crushed carmine beetle and ants’ eggs mixture. During the second world war, the ends of used lipsticks were collected and melted together to form new lipsticks for the women. Each woman had an average of 2 new lipsticks for the 5 year duration of the war.

 

 

 

Lipsticks have the power to improve or ruin your overall look, so they are worth paying extra attention to. Here are some beauty tricks for the lipstick –

 

Pick the right lipstick shades

You need to ensure you go for the right shades of lipsticks. No point picking a nude lipstick if you are like me and nude doesn’t look good on you. You will end up looking washed out which is never a good look. Go for lipstick shades that complement your natural skin tone.

It can be tricky to get the right shades but my advice is to experiment with as many as possible until the find the brands, shades and textures that work for you.

Get rid of dry skin on the lips

You can easily do this by scrubbing the lips gently with a toothbrush.

 

Apply a lip primer

Applying a primer before your lipsticks is the way to go. A good primer helps the lipstick stay on and stay put. I always apply my primer and leave it on for a few minutes before applying my lipstick. That way my primer sinks in properly before the lipstick goes on.

Use a lip pencil

Lip pencils emphasise the lips so they are very much needed in the makeup bag. I have quite a few in various shades, and they really come in handy. My lips always look great when they are lined properly.

The tip is to always make sure your lip pencil and lipstick match. They have to be the same shade to look good. Once you line your lips and apply the lipstick, you shouldn’t be able to see lip liner. It just creates a sharp edge. The only time you shouldn’t use a lip pencil is when you are going for really glossy lips. You can get away with blurry edges when you lips are all glossed up.

Get a lip brush

Applying your lipstick with a lip brush is the best way to create a flawless look. You can’t compare the finish you get when you use a lip brush to when you don’t.

The best way to apply with a lip brush is to fill in the whole lip area, right up to the lip line, and then work into the corners. Also, open your mouth slightly when you apply your lipstick. This way to get to fill out every part of your lips.

Blot your lips

Remember to blot your lips with tissue to fix our colour, add another layer of colour or gloss to complete the look. This is one of the most important beauty tricks for the lipstick, but many seem to forget it.
