Style Tips: Dressing Up or Down with Shirts

Shirts can be a versatile wardrobe staple that can easily change a man’s look from dressed up to casual. For a relaxed off-duty style, opt for a casual shirt with a relaxed fit, perhaps made of cotton or linen. You can choose from plain-coloured or striped pieces or go for a printed shirt with a fun design. Dress it down further by rolling up the sleeves and leaving the top buttons open. Pair your shirt with some jeans or chinos and trainers or loafers to complete the look.

On the other hand, dressing up a shirt is also simple. Choose a fitted dress shirt in a classic colour such as white or blue, pair it with a smart pair of trousers, and finish off the look with some leather shoes. Adding a blazer or a waistcoat can also elevate the outfit further. It’s important to make sure the shirt is ironed and well-fitted for a polished appearance. With these style tips, you can easily transform a shirt from a casual day look to an elegant night look, making it a must-have item in every man’s wardrobe.

Comfort and Fashion: The Evolution of Casual Shirts

As society shifts towards a more relaxed approach to dress, casual shirts have evolved to keep up with modern fashion trends. No longer are these shirts viewed solely as basic t-shirts or button-ups but rather as versatile and stylish pieces of clothing that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. With endless possibilities to mix and match different patterns, colours and materials, the evolution of casual shirts has opened up new avenues for men to express themselves through fashion.

The comfort and fashion of casual shirts are now highly valued by consumers. Brands have started to release a variety of styles, from classic button-ups to trendy tees, ensuring that men have options to fit their personal styles. The use of different fabrics, such as cotton and linen, have made it possible for these shirts to be lightweight and breathable, further enhancing their wearability. As a result, modern casual shirts offer the perfect balance of comfort and style, making them an essential part of every man’s wardrobe.

Cufflinks: The Historic Accessory That’s Making a Comeback

*Collaborative post.

Quality cufflinks are the absolute embodiment of subtle sophistication. A strategically selected pair of cufflinks can make the kind of statement that goes beyond almost any other accessory. Even where fine jewellery and luxury watches are concerned, there’s something about a stunning set of cufflinks that carries a powerful and memorable message.

But where did the world’s collective interest in these simple decorative details come from? At what point did cufflinks make the transition from functional to fabulous?

A Brief History of Cufflinks

There is evidence of cufflinks being worn right back in the 15th century, though it wasn’t until around 300 years later that they became commonplace. It was during the 18th century that men began taking more of an interest in formal dressing, at which point the middle classes in particular took a shine to cufflinks.

Later in the 19th century, the industrial revolution saw cufflinks enter mass production and become comprehensively affordable for the first time. With that being said, it was only the upper classes and royalty who could afford coloured cufflinks and those adorned with gemstones. In fact, Prince Edward VII of Wales is credited with popularising elaborate and exclusive cufflinks, having regularly worn a bright and beautiful pair from Fabergé.

Creativity and experimentation hit their stride throughout the 20th century, though the decline in formal dressing among modern men saw cufflinks take something of a backseat. In doing so, cufflinks (once again) became increasingly associated with elegance, sophistication and dressing to impress. Rather than being an everyday accessory, they were saved for special occasions or perhaps more importantly, worn only by those who take great pride in their appearance.

Why Cufflinks Are Making a Comeback

As recently as the early nineties, you’d have been unlikely to come across a large selection of quality cufflinks in the average clothing store. You’d have certainly found it difficult to find a dedicated cufflink department or a manufacturer of bespoke cufflinks custom made to an exact specification.

This, however, is changing before our very eyes.

In super-stylish circles worldwide, cufflinks are making a comeback for a couple of reasons. For one thing, style-conscious men have stopped wearing ties, opting for a slightly less formal overall look. How do you achieve a polished, professional and personal look without a tie? You finish your suit with a pair of captivating cufflinks.

Throughout history, cufflinks have existed as a small detail that nonetheless carries a powerful message about the wearer’s flair and sophistication. They are by no means considered mandatory or even the norm, which is precisely why they carry such appeal for the connoisseur. You don’t need them and nor are they expected, and that’s why they make such an impact when you wear them and wear them well.

We no longer live in a time where it’s necessary to spend a small fortune to take home a luxury pair of cufflinks. Even if you push the boat out for a bespoke pair made exclusively for you, you’re still looking at a relatively affordable investment.

Not to mention, a priceless investment in your style, sophistication and perceived personality.

Mens Fashion – How to dress for a summer wedding

The wedding season is in full swing and it is time to start planning what to wear if you have a summer wedding to intend. I like to look well put together when I attend weddings. Weddings are a good excuse to play dress up, so I like to go all out on such occasions. I love seeing men dressed up smart too! A man in a good suit attire would be admired by many so it is a great idea to go dressed up looking very smart. Here are some mens fashion tips for dressing for a summer wedding.

Dress code?

The first thing to do is to pay attention to the dress code if any. That way you have a feel of what sort of wedding it is and how best to dress. If in doubt, the best way to dress to a wedding is to go overdressed. That can easily be overlooked and even admire. But going underdressed is a no-no.

Get a great suit

The easiest way to nail a summer wedding look is to make sure your suit looks good. I prefer dark coloured suits because they tend to look nicer. I also like when a man’s suit looks good on him, so having the right size for a great fit is crucial. It is best to go into a mens store and try out the suit to be sure you get the right size. A suit is not something you want to buy online unless you are certain it is going to fit great. Also, ensure that the fabric of the suit fits the weather. For summer weddings, linen suits work better. You can opt for a linen suit mixed with cotton or silk to avoid excessive crinkling.

Pay attention to the shirt

The last thing you want is to have a not so great looking shirt underneath a great suit. So make sure the shirt you pick suits the occasion. For summer weddings, you can opt for short sleeve collar shirts rather than the traditional dress shirts.

Let your shoes do the talking

When it comes to menswear/mens fashion, shoes are very important. For weddings, only formal shoes would work, so don’t be tempted to wear anything else. You don’t want to ever go to a wedding wearing a pair of sandals or trainers. Regardless of how warm it is, proper shoes are to be worn on a suit at a wedding.
