How to style your pregnant body in summer

I remember how uncomfortable I felt in most of my pre-pregnancy clothing while pregnant with the twins. I had a huge bump as you can imagine with twins, and I looked the part quite quickly. When it comes to styling your pregnant body, the most important thing to have at the top of your mind is comfort. The last thing a pregnant woman needs is uncomfortable clothing or footwear, so comfort is the key when you need to style your pregnant body, especially in the summer months as it can get very warm.

Here are six styling tips you may find useful Β when it comes to styling while pregnant these summer months –

Go for layers

Layering is a great way to feel comfortable and look stylish while pregnant. Go for t-shirts or camisoles with chiffon over tops. This will keep you feeling cool and looking effortlessly chic as this look will flatter your bump. Short-sleeved cardigans and cowls are great layers that flatter the bump while keeping you warm on summer evenings.

Buy slim legged maternity jeans

Make sure you go for slim legged maternity jeans to create a more streamlined look. Wearing this type of jeans will create a balanced look as your top part would need to be free.

Wear flats

Now this is purely common sense, but I find many pregnant women in heels and I find it crazy. The last thing your feet needs is heels while pregnant. Being pregnant is a good excuse to wear your flat everywhere, including the office, so make the most of it. Go for a couple of flats in different fabrics and designs for various occasions.

Go a size up

I never really shopped for maternity clothes while pregnant because I didn’t like most of the pieces I saw. Also, I didn’t want to invest in a maternity wardrobe and not be able to wear the clothing anymore. So instead I went a size up! My pregnancy weight was really only on my tummy so buying a size e up worked great for me.

Shop for elasticated trousers/jeans and v-neck tops

Elasticated trousers and jeans leave room to grow and are a lot more comfortable. V-neck tops and scoop-neck tops flatter the cleavage and prevent you from looking too big at the top.

Go for a bra fitting

Your boobs would grow at a terrific rate while pregnant so make sure you go for a bra fitting. Most people grow at least a cup size while pregnant so making sure you get the right bra size is very important.

Shopping for skirts and dresses this summer

Summer fashion features a lot of skirts and dresses because they are dead comfy. With the heat wave, the last thing I want to have on is a pair of jeans. You will easily catch me rocking skirts and dresses because they are easiest pieces to wear and style in summer. It is important to dress for your shape. I always have my body shape in mind when shopping for clothing and accessories. As a petite lady, the last thing I need is for clothing to swallow my little frame up! Which is why I go shopping for skirts and dresses that would work with my body shape.

The beauty about skirts and dresses is that they usually tend to suit most body shapes, depending on the style you opt for. If you plan on doing some summer shopping this season, and you have skirts and dresses on your shopping list, here are some tips you may find useful.

Get pretty summer dresses

Shop around for summer dresses that can be styled for daytime and nighttime. Floral is timeless, so opt for floral dresses if possible.

Go for pieces that show off your best parts

If you have amazing long legs, go for mini dresses that would show they off. Buying dresses with classic lines is a smart way to go about this. If you are after showing off some cleavage and shoulders, go for halter-neck dresses, as they would do the work. It is important to buy clothing that will always show your case your best features.

Remember the shirt dress

Having a shirt dress is an essential this summer. I have quite a few in my wardrobe now and I love them. They are dead easy to style and are very comfy to wear this summer. I like the fact that they are multi-tasking pieces. They can be work from season to season with different accessories. They are smart enough to be worn to work and laidback enough for weekends and vacations. I think shirt dresses are a great wardrobe investment. The trick for the shirt dress is to keep it fitted and in subtle colours.

Don’t forget the skirts

I like having skirts in my wardrobe. I wear them a lot in the summer months. The pencil skirt is my favourite. I think it suits my bodyshape so I always go for skirts in that shape. Skirts are very easy to style up and down. A simple top/shirt can be worn with a skirt for a daytime look, and a shimmery sleeveless top for a nighttime look.

How is your summer wardrobe looking? Are you a fan of skirts and dresses in the summer months?

Outfit Post – Hello Autumn

Hello October! We woke up today and realised it is officially Autumn. Or Fall like my American friends call it. The heating would be coming on anytime from now, and the leaves have gone brown. I like Autumn weather. It is a beautiful season and the chill isn’t always freezing cold, which is a good thing. It also means I can start to play dress up with my scarves, jackets, trainers and boots. Which I have been looking forward to doing kind of.

Autumn fashion is all about light layers and cool colours. I am still in the process of sorting out my Autumn/Winter wardrobe, so here is probably my last summerish look for the year. Enjoy it..

The pink shirt is a new wardrobe addition. I got it some months ago in the US. I really like the design and pink colour. It is a shirt that you can just throw on with a pair of jeans and you are good to go. The quality of the shirt is also great. It is from a trusted brand so I wasn’t expecting anything less.

The metallic sneakers are also new from Italy. I am super in love with the metallic shade and the design. The sneakers are super trendy and easy to style. I think it goes well with the pieces I have on. It is also very comfy which is a plus. Life is too short to walk around in uncomfortable shoes.

I must confess, I would miss the casual summer looks. They are so easy to style and dress up. Wearing layers of clothing would have to take some time before I get used to the trend all over again. Thanks to the longest summer ever we had, I have been styling summer looks from April up until September. But it is now time for Autumn Fashion.
