Six Natural Nail Tips for Beautiful Nails

I love showing off my natural nails in the spring/summer months. It is a season that puts me in the mood for a good manicure and pedicure. That could be because we get to show off extra skin this season, and our nails just have to look the part. I am not really a fan of artificial nails anymore. Sometimes I have them on but very rarely. Which is why I like to pay special attention to my natural nails. I am for all things natural now; so natural hair, nails and the works.

If you are interested in caring for your nails this season, you may find these natural nail tips very useful.

Keep your nails short

Naturally long nails may look good from a distance but they are hellish to have on. Long nails are a hindrance to quality life. They make simple task like opening drawers and dealing which is why I always make sure my nails are short. Long nails only look good for a bit before they become weak and start to break.

Massage your natural nails with oil

Massaging your natural nails with oil helps your nails stay healthy. Coconut oil or olive oil works well in moisturising your natural nails, so try to do this as frequently as possible. Investing in a good hand cream also helps the nails look good and stay moisturised.

File your nails every week

You should try to file your natural nails once a week with a fine emery board to keep the edges from splitting. Using a coarse board or a steel file will be too harsh for your nails.

Exfoliate your hands

Apart from massaging your nails with oil, you should also exfoliate your hands. You can use household remedies like salt and vaseline, and lemon juice mixed with vegetable oil to get rid of dirts an stains.

Moisturise overnight

The fastest way to moisturise your hands and nails is to apply a good nourishing moisturiser all over the hands. Then slip your moisturised hands into a pair of disposable gloves and leave overnight.

Use natural products

Like most products, the more natural they are the better. So it makes sense to try to use as many natural products as possible. Your hands will thank you for it.

How to Care for Nails this Winter

In the beginning of the winter I noticed something was wrong with how my nails looked and felt.  They were dry and very brittle. I initially thought it was my skincare causing this, but it wasn’t! After some research I found out that the chilly weather played a major role in the state of my nails. So I decided to look up ways on how to care for nails.

Healthy nails contain water. What the chilly weather does is to reduce the level of water in our nails when you constantly move from the warmth of your house to the cold outside. Since the time I discovered the culprit, I have been experimenting with the aim of finding the right measures to protect my nails this winter and restore them to their healthy state. I was able to narrow down the hacks that worked to the 2 most effective ones.

I love these hacks because they focus on solving the core problems – lack of moisture. They are really easy to follow and the results are almost immediate. Here are 2 really great hacks that I found to be effective.

Intensify the use of moisturizers

Since the major reason why your nails don’t look so good during the winter is the lack of moisture, then this winter you should make moisturizer your best friend.

I know that there have been times when I caught myself moisturizing only once or twice a day but since the nail incident, I became committed to applying moisturizer regularly. Hand creams are now my friends! I am never without one.

Take a generous amount of hand cream and apply on your hands. Gently massage it in, working the moisturizer in your nails and cuticles.

Also don’t wait until your hands become very dry before you apply a moisturizer. Apply it as often as you can.

Care for nails with a hydrating treatment

Another great way to care for nails this season is by giving your nails a hydrating treatment. This treatment is something that you can do at home. It’s really easy and your nails will thank you for it. I must warn you that this hack may seem a little strange but I’m asking you to trust me on this one.

Steps

Get a bowl of warm water. The bowl should be big enough for you to keep both your hands in. Dip your hands into the bowl of water and allow your hands to sit there for 10 minutes. That gives it enough time for your nails and cuticles to soak in the water.

The next thing you do is to take some Vaseline and apply it on your nails and cuticles. Gently work in the Vaseline on your nails and cuticles.

After applying the Vaseline, grab your gloves and put them on. It’s better to go for cotton gloves as they will help your nails keep the moisture in. Leave the gloves on for about an hour and remove them.

I now do this treatment every night before going to bed. It’s pretty effective. Your hands and nails will look amazing. They’ll feel stronger and look healthier.
