Amazing Haircare Products to Try
Naissance Liquid Fractionated Coconut Oil

Amazon says I have bought this Coconut Oil over 31 times! That alone should tell you how amazing this haircare product is. This is my go to carrier oil for many things. It’s a great moisturising oil for the hair. I like adding some in a spray bottle with water to spray on the go. There are lots of Coconut Oil brands in the market, but I find this Naissance Liquid Fractionated Coconut Oil to be one of the best if not the best.

It suits my 4C hair perfectly and it leaves it moisturised and very manageable. You can grab yours here. Also, read the full review here

Organic Black Seed Oil Cold Pressed

This is another favourite haircare product of mine. If you are trying to grow your hair edges, this is definitely a product to try. I have been using this fab oil for many years and it is simply the best! The only issue you may find with this is the strong smell, it can be overpowering. I combat the strong smell with some drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil, and it does the trick!

If you looking to grow your edges quickly, try this product here. You can read the full product review here as well.

This haircare product is a new addition. I started using this Cantu Wave Whip Curling Mousse a few weeks ago and I really like it. It leaves my hair very soft and curly. I think it’s a great styling product for wash n go hairstyles and it suits all hair types.

You can try it for yourself here, and I will be writing up a full review about this Curling Mousse.

5 Tips for Maintaining your Edges

Our hair edges are so delicate, and they have the power to make or break our look. This is why it is so important to care for them properly. I have real life experience of how easy it is to damage the hair edges and I did a lot of that in my younger days. Didn’t know better and was busy experimenting with all sorts of hairstyles that were damaging to my hairline. Luckily, I retraced my steps some years, and my edges are back and better. It’s not easy to regrow your edges but it is possible with the right haircare products and care.

5 Tips for Maintaining your Edges

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to grow your hair, you are on the right page. Here are 5 tips to help you maintain your edges –

Avoid tight hairstyles

To grow or maintain your hair edges, you would want to avoid tight hairstyles in general. The edges are the most fragile part of the hair, so hairstyles that strongly pull on the hairline is a no-no. You would also want to make sure whoever is making your hair doesn’t have an overly tight grip to avoid damaging your hair.

Nowadays, I do my cornrows myself because I am always rocking a wig or a turban, but many years ago, I had a hairdresser who had a very tight grip. It was horrible and it kind of messed up my hair, so I had to stop having her make my hair. Make sure you only have gentle hands touching your hair.

Stay away from heat

If it’s not possible to stay completely away from heat, then try to reduce using heat on your hair as much as possible. Excessive use of hair dryers, straighteners, flat iron and the likes can lead to hair dryness and breakage. I personally do not use any heat on my hair now and it has greatly helped my hair grow in a healthy way.

Wrap up for bedtime

Wrapping your hair with a silk scarf or bonnet for bedtime prevents the hair from losing oil and moisture, which leads to excessive dryness and hair breakage. I always wrap my hair with a silk scarf and a bonnet for extra protection. Just make sure, the scarf is resting on your forehead and not the edges to avoid unnecessary friction while you are sleeping. Using a silk pillowcase is also great for extra protection.

Keep your hair moisturised

To keep your hair edges healthy, make sure you moisturised them regularly. Depending on the texture of your hair, you might need to moisturise once a day for very dry hair or less frequently for oily hair. Natural oils like Coconut Oil, Black Seed Oils, are best for keeping your hair moisturised and shiny.

Be gentle with your edges

If I could summarise this entire blog post for maintaining your hair edges in 5 words, it would be – ‘be gentle with your edges’. Handle them with care and be consistent with the haircare routine to reap the benefits. It could take a long time to grow the edges back, but if you carry on with the tips and you are gentle with your hair, it will start to look nice again.

I will bee sharing some new haircare products I have been using on my hair and my daughter’s in a subsequent blog post, so keep reading.

Life Update and Thank You 2023

Hey friends! I can’t believe the year 2023 is almost over. It has been a very busy year; a year I can never forget with the many highs and a few lows. I am not one to dwell on the “lows” though as it is a waste of vital resources. Hence, I always focus on the good, noble, and positive experiences. Here are some of the things I have been up to this year –

Study

I have been up to all sorts, work and life has been really busy! As many of you are aware, I took a leap of faith and went back to university a few years ago to study a degree in Psychology. I finished the degree with a First Class in the summer at The Open University, and this led to a new adventure in September. I am currently studying a Masters degree in Health Psychology at Aston University, Birmingham. I was privileged to get a scholarship for this degree, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to specialise in Health Psychology. Health Psychology is something I am very passionate about and I have had my eye on this Masters degree for a few years now. It’s a lot of work and fun at the same time, right up my street, which is just amazing.

Work

With regards to work, many of you may be aware I went back to traditional employment last year. I am still working in the same organisation remotely but in a different role – Relational Mentor, which is now more relevant to my areas of interest. It’s a fantastic role and I am so thankful for the golden opportunity to do what I enjoy to do best.

Blog

So yes, the year 2023 has been very busy in general. I am glad it’s over and I am looking forward to the new year. My blog posts have not been as regular as I wanted them to, due to how busy the year has been, but I am getting into the swing of things, so expect more regular blog posts in the new year and going forward. There will be a few changes as to regards to the content. I won’t be writing blogs on beauty muse and style icons anymore. Also, the tone of the blog posts will likely change slightly and become more personal. I have been running Fashion and Style Police for 11 years now, and a lot has changed in my life as anyone could imagine. So look out for new blog categories and new changes here and there.
