Studying a course a week. Reading a book a week.

I am officially done with the first year of university. The second-year starts in October. The last set of assignments was submitted in April and studies have been on pause since there. The break is a very long one, so I have decided to carry on studying over the break. Taking that many months off studying will leave me with a lot of free time, I rather stay busy especially with all that we are currently experiencing. I have decided to do a free course a week with The Open University. I started my first-course last week and only just finished. The course was titled – Making sense of mental health, and it was a great first course in my studying a course a week challenge.

Studying a course a week

The course is a level 2 intermediate stage. It took me a few hours to complete the course but it takes most people 10 hours to complete the course. I really enjoyed studying this course. It is relevant to my degree in psychology and I always wanted to learn more about mental health. This course enabled me to make sense of the different mental health illnesses, how they get treated by different professionals and it also enabled me to get familiar with the terms used in diagnoses and treatment.

Reading a book a week

This week, I will be starting a new course and I am seriously looking forward to it. This week’s course is all about attachment in the early years. It is all about the research in the attachment in early childhood. I dedicate a few hours a day to study in between work, homeschooling the kiddies, and everything else. It is my way of staying on top of my learning. I am also still reading a book a week on my Amazon Kindle. The book I am reading this week is Conversations with God: An Uncommon Dialogue Book 2 by Neale Donald Walsch.

I finished reading the Book 1 last week and I went straight on to the second book. The series is really good. I am loving all the words of wisdom in the books. You can check it out via the link below –

Working, Schooling and Homeschooling the Twins

I have deliberately avoided writing about Coronavirus on here because I don’t want to dwell on it. There’s enough news about it everywhere else and I don’t want to add to the hysteria going on, but it is becoming more and more difficult not to talk about it. This pandemic is affecting lives all over the world. The kiddies are now homeschooling from today due to this virus. So I am now supposed to work, study and homeschool the twins all at the same time. This will take a lot of planning and determination, but I am sure we will work it all out. Health and safety comes first, and I support the powers that be in this decision.

Working from home

I will be blogging as usual. The topics will vary as they usually do. Do not expect to see topics on Coronavirus on the confusion it is causing. I am rising above that and talking about other things no one seems to be talking about. If you need a good distraction from the current pandemic, you may find the blog posts really interesting. I will also carry on doing my other online jobs and see where the opportunities take me.

Schooling from home

Like many of you know, I started studying with The Open University last year. It has been going really well. I am self-motivated, so I do what needs to be done and I am also really enjoying studying the modules. However, it has been a lot harder to concentrate with all what is going on in the world. Luckily, I have managed to stay on top of my study and assessments somehow. This will carry on as normal.

Homeschooling the Twins

Homeschooling the twins is the biggest change. Normally, the kids are in school for a good few hours and I use those hours to get work and uni jobs done. At the moment, this is no longer the case. Schools are closed here indefinitely and I are meant to homeschool the twins. Fitted this in is the hardest part of all but it has to be done. The twins are in year 1 and are exceeding their targets, I won’t want them to fall behind. So we will be following the curriculum from home as much as possible, to keep them engaged.

Working and Studying from home this year

Hey peeps! Happy December! Welcome to the lovely month of Christmas! I am happy this year is coming to an end at last. It feels like it has gone on for ages. Having said that, the year has been good to me. It did come with challenges and opportunities like most years, and it has been a learning curve for me. I plan to take all I have learnt along with me to 2020 and I can’t wait to get started.

I started studying for a new degree in Psychology this year and it has been a lot of fun. The modules I choose are fun and I am really enjoying them. I am finding adult education really exciting.  It is amazing what you can do when you are determined. The determination is what keeps me going. Working and studying from home while caring for 2 very active kids is not easy. Sometimes, I wonder how I get all I get done.

Working and studying from home this year

I am studying with The Open University and it is so different from the traditional universities I have previously studied in. It is a distance learning degree in psychology, so all my studying is done online. There are opportunities to attend real life classes but I haven’t attended any. I prefer the online classes for now and they work with my busy schedule.

The reason why I decided to study with The Open University is because of how flexible the learning is. For me to study at this point in my life, I need it to be as flexible as possible in other to fit it all in. The twins being in full time school helps massively as I get loads done while they are in school, and play catch up on anything that needs doing in the evenings. It all seems to be working great since I passed my first 2 assessments in flying colours.

Why study again now?

This question has been asked directly and indirectly by many people. Many wonder why I am studying for another degree (this is my 3rd degree) in my 30s with kids when I already work for myself. So here is the simple answer –  I decided to study this new degree in other to serve as a psychologist in the next few years. I feel it is my life purpose to do this and it is impossible for me not to. The blog and all it brings will always be there. It is part of who are am and I won’t be giving up this space ever but life is about growth and this is the next step towards my growth. I got to a point in my life when I wanted more. This is my way of giving and receiving more.

So far, working and studying from home has been great. It takes a lot of planning but it works well if you are passionate about your work and your study. Do you work or study from home? How are you finding it? Do you have any tips to share from working and studying from home?
