Working and Studying from home this year

Hey peeps! Happy December! Welcome to the lovely month of Christmas! I am happy this year is coming to an end at last. It feels like it has gone on for ages. Having said that, the year has been good to me. It did come with challenges and opportunities like most years, and it has been a learning curve for me. I plan to take all I have learnt along with me to 2020 and I can’t wait to get started.

I started studying for a new degree in Psychology this year and it has been a lot of fun. The modules I choose are fun and I am really enjoying them. I am finding adult education really exciting.  It is amazing what you can do when you are determined. The determination is what keeps me going. Working and studying from home while caring for 2 very active kids is not easy. Sometimes, I wonder how I get all I get done.

Working and studying from home this year

I am studying with The Open University and it is so different from the traditional universities I have previously studied in. It is a distance learning degree in psychology, so all my studying is done online. There are opportunities to attend real life classes but I haven’t attended any. I prefer the online classes for now and they work with my busy schedule.

The reason why I decided to study with The Open University is because of how flexible the learning is. For me to study at this point in my life, I need it to be as flexible as possible in other to fit it all in. The twins being in full time school helps massively as I get loads done while they are in school, and play catch up on anything that needs doing in the evenings. It all seems to be working great since I passed my first 2 assessments in flying colours.

Why study again now?

This question has been asked directly and indirectly by many people. Many wonder why I am studying for another degree (this is my 3rd degree) in my 30s with kids when I already work for myself. So here is the simple answer –  I decided to study this new degree in other to serve as a psychologist in the next few years. I feel it is my life purpose to do this and it is impossible for me not to. The blog and all it brings will always be there. It is part of who are am and I won’t be giving up this space ever but life is about growth and this is the next step towards my growth. I got to a point in my life when I wanted more. This is my way of giving and receiving more.

So far, working and studying from home has been great. It takes a lot of planning but it works well if you are passionate about your work and your study. Do you work or study from home? How are you finding it? Do you have any tips to share from working and studying from home?

Do what brings you joy

Joy is the highest form of energy, the highest frequency. It is the most powerful emotion and the one emotion many people lack the most. Joy comes from within. It is not something that can happen outside of you. Which is why many of us struggle with this emotion because we spend more time looking at outwards than inwards. We seek acceptance, love, happiness and validation from others and we neglect our inner being. This post is just a quick reminder on the reasons why we should focus on what brings us joy. I will be writing my lifestyle posts like this because I feel a lot more needs to be said about topics like this.

This morning, my meditation was all about activating joy and activate I did. It was a 22 minutes guided mediation on YouTube, and it helped me connect with my inner joy. That is the great power of mediation. We all need to focus on what brings us joy and do them everyday. That way we feed ourselves emotionally and stay grounded in the midst of the chaos.

Do what brings you joy

So what brings you joy? For me I have really found myself for the first time in my life, and that brings me so much joy. The joy that comes from being self aware is second to none. You don’t need acceptance or validation from anyone when you are self aware, when you know who you are. When you are sure of yourself, you know what you want and you go after it without reservations. You don’t need anyone to give you a pat on the back, you just get on with it because you are sure of yourself and that brings so much joy.

Self awareness helped me find my joy

Being self aware and confident has allowed me focus on my passions and future. I work from work and that allows me care for my children the way I want to and also support my family. It has also allowed me study from home. I started studying with The Open University last month; I am studying a Psychology degree and the fact that I am able to have this sort of lifestyle for now brings me so much joy. Being able to work and study from home is amazing and it feels my heart with so much joy. However, I needed to look within and stay within to find my joy. If I listened to others or compared myself with them, I won’t be where I am today. I will be busy keeping up with the Joneses and I would have been filled with regrets upon regrets. Staying grounded helped me find my joy and keep it.

When you do what brings you joy, your life purpose will unfold. That is what happened to me. I now know for certain what my life purpose is and I am going to achieve all I am destined to achieve. I love this quote –

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” ~David Viscott.

This short quote sums it all up. To find your gift and give it away, you must be self aware. Being self aware and working on your life’s purpose will bring you more joy that you could ever imagine. Look within and find your joy.

Going back to school this October

Yes you read that heading right and if you have been keeping tabs on my Instagram page, this won’t be a surprise. I am going back to school this October and I can’t wait to get started. I have been thinking of going back to university for sometime now. There has been a degree on my mind to study and I have finally decided to take the bull by the horn, and run with it. Life is too short not to follow your heart. When you follow your hearts, you don’t have any regrets.

Going back to school this October

This October, I will starting my first degree in Bsc (Honours) Psychology with The Open University. I have had an interest and a natural flair for Psychology for as long as I can remember. It has always be on my mind. I find the science of the mind very fascinating and I am super excited about pursuing this degree and life after. The fact that I am now going down this route after 2 degrees doesn’t really surprise me. Deep down, I knew this would happen at some point in my life. It was just a matter of when.

Business as Usual

Going back to school and doing what I do will be a test but I know it will all be fine. I will be posting on the blog as regularly as I can. Looking at it all, I still aim to post at least once a day on here. I also plan to keep posting content on my YouTube channel and social media platforms. It will take a lot of planning and determination, but this blog and my other online jobs are important to me. Which is why I plan to keep on going. I enjoy my online jobs, so apart from them being sources of income, they will also be a good distraction from my books.

Adult education is becoming more and more common thanks to the wonders of technology and flexible degrees/universities. I won’t have dreamt of starting a degree from the comfort of my home and being able to join in online with others n the classroom. Just like I won’t have thought of earning an income from home 15 years ago. None of that was possible in my reality back then, but times have changed for the better and I am making the most of this flexible life. Wish me luck 😊
