Separate the Seasons

Separating items in your wardrobe by seasons helps everything stay organised and in the right compartment. It also helps me find items easily and aids the overall decluttering process. You may find it easier to declutter by seasons. So you can get rid of unwanted spring and summer items at the start of spring for example. That way, your wardrobe stays organised for the new season and you have a good item of items you need once you have completed the decluttering process.

Sell unwanted items online

You can sell items you no longer need online. eBay is a great platform to start with, especially if you are looking to get rid of preloved designer items. I have been selling on eBay for many years and I have had quite a good experience overall. There are also many websites available to sell unwanted items, so do some research and find the right platform for you.

Buy less

Another great decluttering tip is to buy less, and stick to a capsule wardrobe. That way, you won’t have to declutter as much or as frequently. Buying less is also better for the planet and your wallet, so this is one tip I am seriously embracing and doing more of going forward. Like with many things, less is more…

Benefits of Decluttering

I watched Marie Kondo’s Netflix show earlier this year and it taught me a lot of things. I found her decluttering strategy very convincing and she inspired me to carry on living a clutter-free life. Clutter does my head in. I like open spaces and I like my home free of clutter. Which is why I am forever decluttering and sending preloved items to other homes. I feel better when I give and if it isn’t bringing me joy then there is no need for it in my space.

Many people don’t like decluttering as they feel they will always have a need for their items, even though they haven’t touched it in years. Others just like the whole idea of having things everywhere. It makes them feel like they own things.

Clutter does no good regardless of the idea behind it. Now I am not saying you should buy stuff only to get rid of them shortly after. What I am saying is holding on to items you don’t need won’t help you mentally or physically. There are so many benefits of decluttering, here are a few –

Having regularly decluttering sessions keeps your space clutter-free

The most obvious benefit is that it keeps your living space free of clutter. It opens up spaces you never knew you had and that alone is amazing.

It stops you from wasting money on items you don’t need

Having regular decluttering sessions will stop you from wasting money on items you have no use for. When you declutter your home, you have the opportunity to take a good look at what you have, which allows you decide on items you need and items you don’t need. That way you don’t make the mistake of repeating purchases you don’t need.

Decluttering makes space for what to come

When you give away items you don’t need, you make spaces for what you do need, and usually these things come in wonderful ways. Sometimes for you to manifest what you want in your experience, you have to get rid of what you don’t want or what no longer serves you.

It helps you clean better

Once you declutter you will find it a lot easier to clean your spaces better as you would be able to reach them. Getting rid of the junk around you also gets rid of the dirt eventually.

I could go and on about the amazing benefits of decluttering. Since I started doing this regularly my life has changed for the better. I will be decluttering again just before Christmas. I have a few bags ready to go to charity and I am looking forward to getting rid of them.

How often do you declutter?
