How to Choose the Perfect Christmas Party Dress

Christmas party season is looming on the horizon, but choosing the perfect party dress can be as difficult as tracking down that last elusive gift. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Here’s a guide to finding a dress that will make you sparkle this holiday season.

  1. Dress for the occasion

You can’t begin your search for until you know what kind of occasion you’re dressing for.

How formal or casual will the event be? If your invitation doesn’t state a dress code, it’s worth asking the host or some of your friends what they are planning on wearing.

What kinds of activities are planned? If you’ll be having a formal meal, it’s likely that you won’t want to wear anything too fitted, as you may feel restricted when sitting down for an extended period of time. If you’ll be hitting the dance floor, look for a dress that will stay in place, so you can let loose without losing your dignity.

It’s also important to consider whether you want to be able to wear the dress again throughout the year. If so, you may want to avoid seasonal colours and look for sequined dresses in metallic shades that you can wear throughout the year.

  1. Finding the perfect fit

Women come in all shapes and sizes, so understanding what suits you is key. There are loads of gorgeous party dresses for the Christmas season, so finding a style to suit every aesthetic and occasion is just a matter of knowing what to look for.

As Christmas is a time for glitz, glamour and gatherings, you should look for a dress that fits you perfectly to ensure that you look and feel your best. Make sure you feel comfortable and confident by choosing a dress that hugs your figure in all the right places. It shouldn’t feel too tight or too loose, which means using the number on the label as a guide only and knowing your measurements.

3. Considering colour

When you think of Christmas party dresses it’s likely that a few colours immediately spring to mind. The classic black dress always works for any occasion, as do rich reds and metallic golds and silvers, so which option you go for really depends on your personal style.

The LBD may seem like the safe option, but it also gives you the perfect opportunity to play with unique cuts, interesting textures and bold accessories. If you’re going for a sophisticated look, a midi dress with a sweetheart neckline looks effortlessly chic, as does a short dress with long flowing sleeves. Alternatively, for a sexier look, try a maxi dress with a dramatic thigh-high split or a mini dress with short capped sleeves and lace detailing.

If colour is your thing, you can’t go wrong with a vibrant red dress. Equally, nothing screams Christmas quite like metallic golds and silvers. Opting for a maxi dress embellished with shimmering beads will allow you to channel your inner vintage goddess, and a sequin-covered dress will instantly hit the right note at a festive party.

Top tip: Opt for chic silver tones if you have a cool skin tone and glittering golds if you have a warm skin tone.

So then, are you ready to start shopping?

OOTD: A Little Black Dress

I love versatile pieces like this black lace dress right here. I got it some months ago and it has appeared on the blog before. And that is because I have mad love for it. I love it because it is super easy to style, very stylish and very versatile. I have worn it a few times, to various events, in various ways and in various seasons and it always works. It also feels good on the skin. The quality of this piece is second to none.

A little black dress is always a good investment. Every woman should have a few in her closet for various occasions.

It is all in the details when it comes to styling. Popping a blazer on this little black dress was no brainer really. It is getting colder. Autumn is definitely here and the layering season is so in vogue. I am loving it so far and I am making the most of wearing skirts and dresses without tights. I am not a huge fan of tights, I think they pretty much ruin most outfits, but they are Autumn/Winter essentials, so here is to me showing off my bare legs for as long as possible.

The beauty of a black dress is the freedom of styling with different colours if you like. Coral and blue look good on black like many other colours do, so I didn’t have to over think this outfit at all. Every piece fell into place naturally.

I am currently in search of a few pretty black dresses for the winter season, and I am glad to say I have found some very stylish pieces on here, and I can’t wait to shop them this season.
