How to Rock the Oversized Clothing Trend

Who would have thought oversized clothing would be so stylish today? Baggy clothes have been creating waves and many people especially celebrities have been using this ensemble as a trendy fashion statement. I have fallen in love with the oversized trend myself. I featured it some days ago, and I have been wearing quite a few oversized pieces in the last couple of days. So I decided to write up a post with tips on how to rock the oversized trend, so here is it.

Like every outfit, there is a right and wrong way to styling oversized clothing. The key to rocking oversized outfits is to strive to achieve a balance. Keeping baggy clothing to proportion is what will make you look stylish.

Here are simple tips that will help you make oversized outfits work for you.

  1. Baggy top + Fitting bottoms = Perfect match

With every oversized clothing, proportion and balance is key. That is the most important rule when it comes to styling oversized clothes and this equation is a perfect example.

Whenever you’re wearing an oversized or loose top, combine it with well fitted bottoms like skinny jeans or leggings. This gives you a more evened out silhouette.

You can complete this look with a pair of gorgeous looking heels.

  1. Baggy top + Short bottoms = Cute pair

The equation looks like complete opposites as large is competing with short but it still follows the rule on proportion and balance.

Alluring outfits start with contrasting combination. So in this case a baggy T-shirt or oversized sweater with a pair of shorts or short skirt can be a stylish and fun ensemble. However, make sure your shorts or skirt is not too short that it gets lost under your oversized top. That will make you look awkward as it will seem like all you have on is a baggy top. To be safe, always make sure the hem of your shorts or skirt sticks out from underneath.

  1. Baggy top + belt = Flattering Figure

Wearing an oversized top is great to hide areas you are not quite comfortable with, but at the same time it could also hides your assets.

Using a belt can make a big difference and help show off your flattering figure. Place a belt around the middle to flatter your waist and give your top a curvy shape. This simple trick will make your waist look smaller and show off an hour-glass figure.

  1. Fitted top + Baggy bottom = Comfy combo

Oversized styles do not only work for tops. It works for bottoms too. But, as always, balance is key.

A fitted top over baggy bottoms like yoga pants, boyfriend jeans and plaazzo pants keep this rule perfectly. The fitted top keeps you looking slim while the baggy bottoms keep it evened out, thus giving the perfect contrast.

This combination gives the aura of laid back and comfortable.

  1. Oversized jacket + Heels = Tall and Trendy

Oversized also goes to jackets and with an oversized jacket, you can experience a wow effect with this simple tip: add a pair of heels to the mix.

An oversized jacket is actually long, most times going below your waist. This creates a longer torso but when you wear a pair of good-looking heels you get longer legs thus making you look so much taller than you really are.

Choose heels that are the same colour with your bottoms. This will give the illusion that your legs are long. The same works when you wear long trousers that cover your heels.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

Baby, it’s cold outside! It is painfully cold at the moment. I finding it extremely hard to get out of bed with the darkness and the chill in the air. I wish I could stay under my duvet, with a cup of tea, all day, but that is not my reality. My reality is, I need to get stuff done, which means my wake-up time is usually on or before 7am.

How are you all coping with cold? I am indoors most of the time, so I am nice and warm. And when I need to step out, I make sure I am well layered up. I just recovered from an annoying flu (my first ever full blown flu), so I am not in the mood for any more sickness. If you spot me out and about, I will be rocking my many layers of clothing.

On cold days like this, I am grateful I work from home. It is a lot harder to earn a living working for yourself, that I know, but the pros outweigh the cons massively for me. And I appreciate that so much more in the winter months.

I am currently typing out this post from the comfort of my sofa, wearing my new fluffy nightgown, and I am happy with where I am at in life. I turn 30 in a few days, and I feel like I am in a good place. I can’t imagine any other job that could allow me work in my nightgown, so the flexibility of my job is the best part of it.

Speaking of nightgowns, I think I would need to get some shopping done. I am in need of some new pyjamas and nightgowns. I have a bit of an obsession with nightwear collections, but for someone who spends a great deal of time in my nightwear, I like to have quite a few. I have my eye on a few womens nightgowns by David Nieper, I need to check them out. In the winter months, I like my nightgowns thick and fluffy to retain the body heat, and David Nieper has a couple of warm fleece nightgowns that tick all the right boxes. I can picture myself wearing some of these comfy/stylish pieces already!

Essentials for your winter wardrobe

If you want to ensure that you are fully prepared for the colder season with a winter wardrobe packed with essentials, here are some of the items you should add to your list:

  • Knee length boots

Winter is not the time for those sling backs or stilettos, particularly if it the weather is very bad. This is why you should make sure you invest in a good pair of knee length boots, as these are versatile as well as stylish and practical. They can be worn for work, a casual trip out, or even a night out because you can team them with skirts, dresses, jeans and more. The amazing eBay website does a great selection of boots and offers some great deals. You save even more money when you shop at eBay by heading to OZCodes for some very generous discounts.

  • Skinny jeans

Skinny jeans are perfect for a number of reasons during the winter. First off, the fact that they cling to you means that you won’t have to worry about that winter chill biting at your legs and ankles because the tightness of the jeans will keep it out. You will also find that their design is perfect for layering items on top in order to keep warm. You can head to retailers such as River Island, Debenhams, for a great choice of skinny jeans to add to your wardrobe.

  • High neck jumper

When it comes to feeling warm and still looking stylish, a high neck jumper is ideal. The great thing about these, apart from the fact that they keep the cold out, is that they can be worn for work, days out or casual evenings out. They also look great with jeans as well as jumpers and work-wear, which makes them a versatile addition to the wardrobe. The Iconic offers a good choice of tops and jumpers so take a look through the selection there to purchase your high neck jumper.

  • Knitted dress

Knitted dresses were in fashion some decades ago but have made a big comeback. Winter shouldn’t mean that you can’t wear a dress and by investing in a knitted dress you can enjoy the style and confidence that comes with wearing a dress without skimping on warmth and practicality.

  • Cashmere sweater

Cashmere has a texture and appearance that oozes luxury and style. Winter is the best time to wear this because you can show off your great fashion sense while revelling in the warmth and comfort of cashmere. A cashmere sweater is therefore an excellent addition to your winter wardrobe and you can enjoy some great deals on these and other sweaters at retailers such as Neverland Store.

  • Winter coat

Of course, a winter coat is essential during this season but keeping warm with your outerwear does not mean you have to do away with style. Invest in a statement coat such as metallic or a bold colour like red in order to brighten up your outfit, add a splash of colour to a gloomy grey day, and keep you looking stylish while you are out and about.

  • Knitted scarf

Scarves are not just good for keeping the cold out but also for adding style to any outfit. Accessorising with a knitted scarf will therefore enable you to enjoy practicality as well as style. You can even opt for a blanket scarf, which will envelope you in warmth but also make your outfit stand out all the more.

  • Leather jacket/coat

Winter is a great time to step out in a leather coat or jacket, as these are too heavy and hot for summer but look great during the colder season. You can really rock out when you wear leather and a stylish leather jacket is perfect for a glam night out as well as a casual shopping trip or day out.

  • Opaque tights

When it comes to winter fashion accessories, always have a pair of black opaque tights to hand. If you want to wear a skirt or dress during the colder weather, you don’t have to worry about having freezing legs when you have these tights. A high quality pair of opaque tights will keep you warm and they look great with skirts and dresses as well as with boots and shoes.

With these winter staples in your wardrobe, you can ensure that you have everything you need to combine style and practicality this winter.
