Holidaying in Dubai

I am back from our Middle East mini tour. We visited Dubai and Oman, and we had an amazing time. I am still recovering from the excitement, trying to get back into the swing of things. I came back to a mountain of work, hundreds of emails, and the works, and I still have a suitcase to unpack (my least favourite job in the world), but I have decided to do that some other time. Right now, I need to blog!

I will be telling you more about our visit to Muscat, Oman, in my next travel lifestyle post, but for now, it is all about the beautiful cosmopolitan city of Dubai. This is my third time visiting the amazing country, and I am so in love with it. There is always something to do, something new to look forward to. Dubai is full of excitement and screams luxury.

Although, the weather was boiling hot at over 40 degrees while we were holidaying, we still managed to have a good time, with plenty of water, suncream and sunhats! It is a summer holiday to remember forever!

We spent most of our days exploring the Jumeirah Beach Resort. We stayed over at DoubleTree Hilton Jumeriah Beach, and it came with a private beach, which we visited almost everyday.

The kids had a blast splashing in the amazing cool kids swimming pool and they also made the most of the beach with their sand castle toys. It was a perfect summer vacation for the family; a holiday I would never forget.

I have been busy sharing snaps from Holiday on my social media platforms, so free feel to play catch on them, and let me know what you think.

It was a relaxing break, that was urgently needed. And now I feel ready to take on the rest of the year. I am looking forward to my next Dubai trip. Hopefully, I won’t have to wait too long.

Here’s a glimpse of some things we got to see in Dubai –

An Expensive Taxi Ride

The holiday season is upon us and most of us are getting ready to jet off. I am badly in need of a holiday; a break from the real world, so I have a few holidays planned for the rest of the year, and I shall be sharing more on that soon. I have not done as much travelling in the last few years, but I am hoping to make up for that in the coming months.

Speaking of holidays, one of my most memorable trips was my first trip to Dubai a few years ago. I have been to Dubai twice now, and I think it is a great holiday destination for everyone. There is so much to do and see in Dubai; it is a country I don’t think I would ever get tired of visiting.

Dubai Dessert

Having said that, I remember my first time in Dubai, and the first few hours not being as amazing as I imagined it would be. After the incredibly long wait at the airport to get through immigration, we quickly grabbed our luggage and got a taxi to our hotel. We got into a taxi that ended up being a nightmare. The taxi driver informed us that he was charging us separately for the ride to our hotel. I found this weird, and deep down, I knew he was trying to play a fast one, but it was late at night in a country we have never been to, and I was too tired to argue, so we agreed.

I insisted he gave us receipts to confirm payments, which he reluctantly did, After speaking with the concierge at the hotel, it was confirmed that the taxi driver cheated us by charging us twice the amount for our trip. We later spoke with the taxi company and the police even got involved at some point. To cut the very long story short, we got our money back and the driver was giving a warning from the police.

I recently came across this infographic by The Taxi Centre, and I saw the funny side to it. It got me thinking of how expensive taxi rides can be, and how the fares quickly add up when you are on holiday. Especially if you are unlucky enough to get scammed like we were.

Most of us are usually left at the mercy of taxi drivers on holiday, especially when travelling with young children or when your hotel is not close to any other means of transport. We are left hopping from one taxi to the other, and it can leave a massive hole in our holiday money purse.

The cost of the taxi fares on this infographic are exorbitant, but I do get the message. If taxi rides are expensive for people like us, I can only imagine what the footballers and their managers have to pay out.

The figures on this infographic made me laugh. I am very aware of how much money goes on taxi rides, so I am very observant when I am in a taxi, especially in a foreign country. I check the meters, if any, to make sure I am paying the right amount, and not an amount the driver thinks I should pay. And I will never be made to pay a taxi fare twice ever again.

Do you struggle to keep up with the cost of taxi fares when on holiday? Do you have any tips or horror taxi stories to share?

Happy Holidays

Happy holidays guys. I hope you all had a merry Christmas. I did. Christmas was fun and I am still in the holiday mode. This Christmas was definitely one of the best I have ever had in my almost 30 years on earth. It was incredible and I am still having a swell time.

I am writing this post overlooking this amazing view from my sea view room on Jumeirah Beach. It is the most beautiful view I have seen in a very long time, and I am soaking it all in; making the most of it. I am having an amazing holiday as you can imagine. This is my second time visiting Dubai, and it is even more beautiful now than when I visited almost 5 years ago. It is like paradise on earth. If you have ever been to Dubai, you would know exactly what I mean. To think all of these did not exist a few years ago is unbelievable. I am yet to see any other country as beautiful as Dubai.

Apart from the beauty of Dubai, there is so much to do here that there is never a dull moment. I am yet to see any other country which as much to do as Dubai, well things I am interested in anyways. The kids are having so much fun, it feels so good to give them an amazing Christmas. And the Christmas vibe here is surprisingly cool.
