Style Tips for the Smart Casual Look

Smart casual is another look I love styling. It is quite easy to get this look right. If you read my last fashion post about rocking the casual daywear look, then you will know all about my love for the trend. The smart casual look is also close to heart. It is another look I found myself styling pretty much everyday some years ago when I worked for an energy company in Manchester.

For those who are not sure what this trend is all about, here is a definition for you. The Oxford Dictionary defines the smart causal look as “neat, conventional, yet relatively informal in style, especially as worn to conform to a particular dress code” Here are some style tips that may come handy if you intend to style the smart casual look –

Get a blazer

Rocking a blazer is one of the easiest way to add smartness to a causal look. A blazer has the power to add a touch of class to your regular casual look. And it does so effortlessly.

Knee-length pieces

My love for smart causal became stronger when I became a Mummy in 2013. It is easier to attend an event with twins looking dressed in a smart causal outfit than going all out with heels and minis. The smart casual look is easy to nail with knee-length dresses and skirts rather than minis.

Linen works in the warmer months

In the summer, linen works great for styling this look. Opt for chic linen trousers instead of jeans or leggings.

Add a clutch

A stylish clutch adds some more glam to your look. Go for an all-purpose clutch with some subtle beading to get this look right. I am usually not a clutch girl but I have invested in a couple this year, and I am glad I did. They are super handy to have around.

Are you a fan of the smart causal look? What do you like about it?

  1. Your style is everything!! The blazer looks fabulous..I should get one! And i totally agree with you about the knee-length dresses and skirts. And that white dress looks perfect on you! Wow…I think I should change my wardrobe..

  2. Those are great ideas to achieve the smart casual look. I enjoy adding a blazer or cardigan to make a casual look a little more dressed up. I like having the feel of being dressed up, but not overly dressed up for special events

  3. That tiny denim blazer is so cute! It would go well with so many things – even a cocktail dress to make it posh. So fun!
