What Marie Kondo Taught Me

*Collaborative post.

I finally decided to binge watch Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix the other day and I am glad I did. At first, I didn’t want to watch the Netflix original series because I thought it wasn’t for me. But I am always interested in home decor and renovation series, so I decided to give it a go. I picked a lot of tips from Marie Kondo’s series. I think she is a very smart interior decorator. She definitely knows what she is talking about and some of her tips have been tried and tested by me.

Clutter has no space in our hone. It is something I have always been on top of because I don’t do well with clutter or mess. Which is why our house is always neat and organised. I found some of the couples very interesting. The amount of items they had and their lifestyle was interesting to watch because I couldn’t relate or understand many of them. But I took some organising tips away from the series and I have implemented them into my life and they work great. Here they are –

Make use of boxes

I never knew how useful boxes could be in a drawer/wardrobe. Boxes change the whole look of a space and helps in maximising the space as much as possible. I am looking forward to getting some boxes for the bathroom storage when we get an additional one. We need some extra storage in our bathroom, thanks to the many hair and skincare products I have. If I had my way I would get rid of the entire bathroom and change the decor. The carpets we have in there would be out of the window if I had my way. I would replace them with karndean vinyl flooring for an authentic and. durable wood look.

Keep bags inside each other

I have tested this tip and it works! I now put my bags inside each other, 1 in each bag, with the handles out so I can view (and remember ) them easily. It helps maximise space, and the technique keeps your bags organised. You should try it.

Thank things you no longer need

Many of us take what we have for granted, forgetting that many people go without everyday. Which is why I love the whole idea of thanking things that no longer serve us, and I will be doing more of that going forward. I also like the fact that she greets the house before she starts the decluttering process with the family. That makes a whole lot of sense to me for a weird reason.

I have seen all the 8 episodes of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and I am looking forward to the second season. I hope Netflix brings that  this second season back soon. The fact that Marie Kondo spoke Japanese all through was also a good idea. I wasn’t expecting that but it felt more real with her having a translator there.

Have you seen this Marie Kondo series? What are your thoughts?

Reception Primary School Year

*Collaborative post.

The Kiddies started reception last Sept, and they are still loving it. I have previously written about how excited they were to finally start primary school. They grew out of their pre school quite quickly and got bored with the routine there. I guess partly because they are the older kids (they are November babies), and partly because there wasn’t much to do over there.

I thought the love of primary school would have worn off by now since they started in September 2018, but it hasn’t. It is good to know they like school and learning as much as they do. They are both very academic. My daughter is a great reader, and is free reading properly already. My son loves reading as well, but he prefers numbers and is really good at it. It makes me very proud to see how quickly they have settled in and how much they love education.

Dealing with kids not loving school would be hard. I am glad I don’t have to deal with crying kids at the school gate. I was not a big fan of primary school when I was their age. But I knew I had to go so I just got on with it. Good to know they didn’t inherit that side of me, but then again I can see why they love going to school. I would love going to school if my school was as good as theirs.

Right now, the twins are learning about cities all over the world in primary school, and they are loving it. They are forever talking about New York and London in particular. We visited New York last year but they were not aware it was “New York” and want to visit again. They are hoping for a school trip to New York but they now know that is not happening. They have also  been to London many times but can’t remember being there, so we are looking to plan a visit into city so they see for themselves all what they are learning in school.

Travel is important to us as a family, and that is why we always make time and money for holidays. I think travel is an important gift to give our children, and that is why we go for as many trips as possible. So far the kiddies have been to Düsseldorf, Paris, Algarve, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Amsterdam, Milan, Dubai, Oman and Dublin. We are hoping to do more travel this year, especially now that they are learning about the world around them.

Is your child all settled into the new school year? Do you think travel is an important gift to give a child?

Style Icon – Phaedra Parks

The stylish Phaedra Parks is the Style Icon for January. I have always admired this woman’s sense of style from her days on the Real Housewives of Atlanta reality show. She was my favourite on the show because she is hardworking (this lady is a lawyer, mortician and Wilhelmina model, among many other jobs) and financially savvy. I like women who go through life like Bosses.

Phaedra Parks has a great fashion sense, which is why she is the Style Icon for the month. I love her pieces and how she puts them together. Her bags and shoes are always on point. She definitely has a good eye for stunning accessories. I would love to take a peep into her wardrobe. I am sure I would love everything in it.

Phaedra Parks Style Icon

Phaedra Parks’ style is very modern, chic and feminine. She has embraced her curvy figure and knows how best to style it. She also knows the best accessories to go with her pieces. This woman is an example of a lady on top of her fashion and style game. If you are ever in need of some fashion inspiration, you just need to binge watch Real Housewives of Atlanta on Amazon Prime and look out for the episodes Phaedra Parks appear in. That would be the dose of Fashion Inspiration you need.

I really hope Bravo brings Phaedra Park back on the show. She is a pleasure to watch and super entertaining. I hope they bring her back and get rid of some of the new faces on the show. They are so boring.
