Goodbye 2019 and hello to a new decade

I can’t believe I am actually saying goodbye 2019! Today is the last day in 2019 and it is amazing to see how far I have come this year and decade. 2019 was a year of lots of ups and downs for me personally. The ups outweighed the downs which is good. The downs were really more about me finding myself and seeking my higher self in moving forward with my goals and aspirations. I am glad the year has ended on a high note. I have spent the last few days just resting up and chilling with the family.

This holiday is the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. I can’t remember the last time I took so many days off at once. My laptop has hardly gone up these last few days and I am not stressing over the fact that I am not working (like I normally do). I am just taking things very easy which is not how I usually roll. I usually work even when I am on holiday but I decided not to do so this time. The mind and body needs rest and that is exactly what I am giving them, good old fashioned rest.

I am looking forward to the year 2020 and what the new decade brings. I really don’t do the whole new year resolutions thing because I tend to forget all about them by March/April.  When it comes to goals, I prefer to stick to monthly goals so I make sure I smash them. That will carry on into the new year as normal. My goals are not usually shared as well as I don’t see the point in doing so but I may share them after ticking them off the list 😊

Regular blog posts will resume in the new year. I have many give-away posts lined up as well as review posts and I am looking forward to publishing them all. Until the next post, wishing you all a very happy new year. I hope 2019 was good to you and I pray 2020 is even better for us all.

Goodbye 2019! See you in 2020!

Working girl: how to get the “business look” right

*Collaborative post.

If you work from home, you obviously don’t need to worry too much about what you’re wearing when emailing or calling clients; even pyjamas can suffice. However, at some point, you will probably need to meet face-to-face with clients or even move into a dedicated office.

This poses style problems for women, who have it harder than men when deciding what to wear for work. After all, the rules for the ladies aren’t quite as clear-cut, but here’s some reliable advice.

Go for subtlety rather than showing off

To begin with, you might only need work-friendly attire for special occasions, such as meetings with clients or events like conferences and product launches. All the same, one good rule of thumb is that your clothing shouldn’t upstage either the event or the person you’re meeting.

To ensure you stick to this guideline with your corporate attire, stick to conservative colours such as dark grey and navy, advises The Balance Careers.

Don’t be too casual with the “business casual” look

You might see “business casual” being prescribed as a workplace dress code, but one problem with the term “business casual” is that different companies can perceive it differently. Therefore, whereas some firms may accept long shirts, you should forgo these for formal business dealings.

Otherwise, when meeting up with a client, you could give off the image of a woman who has rushed over from the gym – hardly the most professional impression you could project!

Invest in tailored, interchangeable outfits

Although you may not be able to get away with reusing pieces as often as your male cohorts could, quality still betters quantity when it comes to women’s work clothes. Hence, it’s worth investing in tailored clothing.

Quite simply, it will look better than non-tailored clothing – and as Business Insider explains, a “nicely cut and manufactured blazer can be slimming and fitted in the right places while not restricting your arms to your sides either.” You could often wear such a blazer on consecutive occasions as well.

Choose skirts and dresses carefully

You’ve already read some guidance on colour, but you need to watch out for the length, too. An overly short outfit could expose too much of your thigh when you settle into a chair.

As a general rule, any slit in your skirt ought to be small and centred in the back. It would not be appropriate for the slit to either exceed the back of your knee in height or, as would be the case with an excessively small or tight slit, impair your mobility when you walk or climb stairs.

What about the shoes?

When shopping for these, opt for closed-toed pumps coloured in a way that is complementary to your outfit. Those shoes should fit well, too, or else you could struggle to walk comfortably.

Just imagine the pride you would feel if your clothing choices help you to ascend the corporate ladder, perhaps to the extent that you end up walking every business day into a serviced office from BE Offices, a national provider of workplace amenities.

Dresses That Can Be Worn All Year Round – How To Style Them

*Collaborative post.

Do you have a killer dress in your closet, which you are ready to wear all year round? If you do, you need new ways to style it. Such all-purpose dresses are great. However, your friends and co-workers may notice you wearing the same outfit season in and season out.

So what can you do to diversify your favorite dress? We’ve asked fashion experts to share a few dress styling tricks that can turn one dress into many with the least effort. Read on!

1. Basic T-Shirt

Let’s make something clear. We are talking about short- or no-sleeved dresses here. If you have a favorite long-sleeved dress, it may not be suitable for the hot season. Meanwhile, short sleeves are amazing all year round.

A basic t-shirt can make any no-sleeve dress look casual while making the owner feel warmer. You can go further to get a basic long-sleeved shirt to wear underneath the dress. Don’t go crazy with the colors if your dress is multi-colored. Stick to black and white t-shirts.

2. Colorful Leggings

Another way to add some warmth to your outfit is to take advantage of leggings. Just like t-shirts, leggings can turn your dress into something special. For example, Boxhill miracle dresses look entirely different with and without leggings or tights.

The best part about the leggings is that you can add some color to your look without making a big investment. Change the color and wear a new outfit every day.

3. Strict Turtleneck

Does your favorite dress open up your shoulders too much? Don’t worry. You can wear it to a meeting when coupled with a turtleneck. Also, you can wear a turtleneck underneath the dress to sport a fashionable look.

You can also pull the turtleneck over the dress to turn it into a skirt. This can help you create a completely different outfit.

4. Belt Collection

Belts can change the appearance of any dress, starting from little black dresses and ending with wraps. A simple belt can become a savior for your good old dress. Don’t hesitate to purchase a nice collection of belts, from simple leather straps to large chains.

A belt can either be worn on the waist or lifted to the under the chest area to change the appearance of wraps, sweater, and t-shirt dresses.

5. Shoes and Bags

Shoes and bags can do wonders. When you wear your favorite dress with sneakers and a backpack, it looks different from when you sport high heels and a clutch. These days, you don’t have to worry about matching shoes to the bag or any of them to the dress.

Allow your imagination to run wild to help you come up with different combinations. A bag can change the outfit regardless of its size. Shoes can turn it from casual to formal and vice versa.

6. Scarfs

Are you a little tired of the way your dress looks or perhaps need to make it warmer? A scarf can do wonders for styling your dress. You can wear it over your shoulders, wrap it around your waste, use it to cover your head, and much more.

Large scarfs can hide the majority of your dress, revealing whatever you want to show the world.

7. Jewellry

Just as bags and shoes, jewelry can easily change the style of your dress. A simple silver chain can add a casual look to your attire. Meanwhile, a diamond necklace can turn it into a ball gown. Experiment with jewellry to tweak your favorite dress in many different ways.

A dress is just a small part of your outfit. You can style it to become something else with only a few accessories.
