Here are some tips on how to shop for the best designer dress for an upcoming wedding:

Know the dress code and follow it.

Confirming your attendance to the invitation means that you are agreeing to follow the dress code given in the invite. Naturally, you’d want to stick to the dress code to avoid being the odd person in the group. You wouldn’t want to stick out either for wearing an inappropriate dress to the wedding.

Dress code terms can be confusing so here are some things to remember about the most common dress codes:

  • White tie

A white tie dress code is not common among modern wedding ceremonies, except if the groom or the bride has a title. Women should wear floor-length gowns and jewelry. One thing to remember is that this dress code also comes with a certain level of modesty and tradition, so avoid low necklines and high slits.

  • Black tie

A black-tie wedding is also a dressy occasion but is more flexible. Men are to wear tuxedos and women, evening gowns, but this dress code can also allow other suits and dresses. You don’t have to blow your budget and buy the most expensive dress; you can still wear the best dress you own. However, there are many gowns that you can purchase or rent online for you to look the best dressed.

  • Cocktail

A cocktail event is less formal than a black tie one. Cocktail-length dresses are usually shorter than evening gowns, and come with more embellishments. Find elegant lace dresses with a touch of glamour for this dress code.

  • No dress codes

If the dress code is not specified, try looking for an outfit that is appropriate for the setting. For example, a hotel wedding would require a more formal attire compared to a beach or backyard wedding. If you are really confused, you can always ask for help. Ask other guests who are attending or the maid of honor to avoid troubling the bride.

Choose a classic dress.

It’s always safe to choose classical silhouettes and shapes to wear on a wedding. Think about the kind of dresses you would regularly wear but in an expensive fabric and an elegant cut. Attending a wedding gives you the perfect chance to splurge on a designer dress.

Pick a neutral-colored dress.

This way, you can also wear the dress to other occasions. Consider getting beige, black, or muted pastels. However, you should choose a dress that looks less bridal-like, which is discussed in the next tip.

Avoid looking like the bride.

Only the bride should wear white. To avoid the embarrassment of being mistaken as the bride by other guests, stay away from dresses in cream, off white, ivory or pale blue colors.

  • You should also consider this when the bride is wearing a different dress or when attending a wedding of a different culture. For example, wearing a red dress in a traditional Chinese wedding would be a major mistake.
  • To avoid the bride’s color palette, choose dresses with prints on a dark background. A black dress with a contrasting print is also an interesting option.
  • Also, check out the bridesmaids’ dress color and avoid wearing the same.

Choose to stay low-profile.

This day is not about you and wearing an outfit that will steal the attention from the bride is rude.

  • It would be best to avoid sparkly or metallic dresses. Instead, wear a brooch or necklace to add a more delicate shine.
  • Avoid wearing a dress with a revealing neckline or a very short skirt, especially if the wedding venue is in a place of worship.
  • You also should stay away from loud prints and catchy embellishments.

Stay comfortable but not overly casual.

Avoid wearing shorts, denim, cargo pants, or sweats. Faded clothes, shirts with writing, and clothing that looks like pajamas are not suitable when attending a wedding. If you are going to a casual outdoor wedding on a warm day, choose lightweight fabrics such as linen and cotton. Be careful in using sheer fabrics because sweat can make them transparent.

Closing Thoughts

Finding the perfect designer wedding guest dress shouldn’t have to be tricky. If you know the dress code and the given tips, you should find one in no time. If the wedding doesn’t specify a dress code, check out the wedding ceremony venue to know the level of formality to consider in your dress. Finally, seek advice from a few wedding guests who you know are coming to the wedding when you’re still confused.

Minimalism is Fashionable

Fashion is the driving force behind this blog but being fashionable doesn’t only have to be secluded to what you wear. I love being fashionable in my home as well. In today’s world, minimalism is all the trend because people all over the world are adopting the concept that less is more.

Benefits

There are many upsides to becoming a minimalist. Not only will you be saving money that you can ultimately travel with, you will be doing something great for the Earth by creating less garbage. The personal benefits include a clearer mind, a healthier body, and more time to do the things you love. You will also experience less stress.

How to Become a Minimalist

This is the easiest part. All you need to do is get rid of things. It doesn’t matter where you start, just take a serious look around your home and start deciding what you want to keep and what you want to sell or give away. I know, this is not as easy as it sounds.

There is no reason to jump into this too hard if separating from your items is difficult. You can take it slow. Maybe your way of starting to transcend into the minimalist lifestyle is to simply stop purchasing new things. There are many ways to start. Just start slow and eventually you will find that the clutter you live with is no longer there.

Do You Wear It?

If you haven’t worn it in a year then it’s time for you to move on and give the other clothes in your closet some breathing room. The one-year thing is a rule of thumb but another way to do it is by season. When the warmer weather is on its way out, go through what you have for clothes for that season. If you didn’t wear it all summer, then put it in a pile. You can sell all those things on EBay or donate it to a shelter. You will be helping others and making your way towards minimalism.

In Your Home

There’s a lot of ways you can start turning your home into a fashionable minimalist paradise.

Let’s us take the bedroom as an example. Our bedrooms are very important because this is where we get fashionable in front of the mirror. If you are living in a small bedroom that is taken up mostly by the bed, then it might be a good idea to go smaller.

Try sleeping on a futon. A futon will not only give you a good night’s sleep if you get a good mattress, it will free up space in your bedroom to give it a cleaner and less cluttered look.

You should also stick to neutral colors like beige and white when you are thinking about bedding. The idea behind minimalism is to free your life of things that clutter your home and your mind. White has a clean look that can make you feel like you are sleeping on a cloud.

Of course, my blog is about being fashionable so if all white and beige isn’t sounding good to you, try throwing in a splash of color. Besides, that one red pillow will stand out in an all-white room more than it would if the decorations spanned every color in the gambit.

When You Travel

I love to travel and there is no doubt it is easier to get from one place to another if I have less to carry. So, when I head to a new part of the world I try to pack less. Packing for only a few days with the intention of wearing things more than once is the best way to go. Remember, you can always find a place to throw in a load of laundry.

Also, when you are traveling, allow yourself a great take-home piece of clothing unique to the culture. But don’t buy everything you see. Besides, there are so many cultures to experience in this world, so don’t spend all you have in one place.

When You Eat

Whether you are eating at home or out, consider how much food you really need. Sure, when we are traveling we want to try everything but let’s be honest, we don’t need to gorge ourselves with excess calories. That would only slow us down on our travels anyway.

Keep a Journal

Write down what you want to achieve in your journey toward minimalism or you can start to keep a blog like me. When we write things down it is easy to remember them and it makes the goal seem all the more attainable.

What do you think about adopting a minimalist lifestyle? Do you think it would be an easy journey or difficult? Do you think that a person can be a minimalist and fashionable at the same time?
