How Do You Land a Job In Fashion?

*Collaborative post.

Of all the industries that you can work in, none are quite as appealing as fashion. Indeed, other than working as an actress or musician, it’s probably right at the top of the list of “dream jobs” for many people. Alas, part of the charm is that it’s so elusive. While people do, of course, work in the fashion industry, there are many more people hoping to work in it than there are positions available. However, it’s not impossible! In this blog, we’ll take a look at a few key tips that’ll put you on the right path.

Get an Internship

You may prefer to go straight into a paid position, but take it from us: it’s recommended that you do an internship, for various reasons. For starters, you’ll get an insight into a higher level of the industry than you would if you had an entry-level position. Those jobs are important, but it’s best to see what the world at the top of the chain is like too. You’ll also get to try your hand at many more tasks than you would as an employee of a business. So get writing, and see which companies will offer you one.

Look at Smaller Companies

You might be looking to work at one of the huge fashion houses, but then, so is everyone else. While many people focus on the big names, there are plenty of smaller companies that are also doing fantastic stuff — and they also receive many fewer applications than the big names. Additionally, you’ll have more responsibilities if you’re working in a team of just a few people. They can be great places to work, especially when you’re just first getting started.

Upgrade Your Education

While fashion is creative and fun and so on, it’s also important to remember that the industry is ultimately about business. As such, another route into the fashion industry is to look at careers that you’ll know they’ll need. You’ll be more valuable to a fashion company if you hold a Master of Business Administration degree from Norwich University. If you want to work in the fashion industry but not necessarily in one of the creative positions, then look at working at ‘behind the scenes.’ You’ll still get all the cool perks of working for a fashion company!

Don’t Wait For Opportunities

If you want to work in fashion, or indeed any popular industry, then you have to learn how to hustle. Opportunities are not going to come knocking at your door. It’s up to you to get out there and find them. And when you do find them, to take advantage of them. If you take a look at the backstory of some of fashion’s most famous names, you’ll find that none of them just fell into their line of work: they were bold and brave and made things happen. So it’s recommended to get talking with people at any opportunity; you never know where it might take you in your career.

Giving Yourself a Refresher To Get Back on Track

There are always times in life where we feel just a little blah, and it can be a challenge to drag ourselves out from this rut. The problem is, though, that failing to drag ourselves out will only make things worse. We get lazy, complacent, demotivated, and this only compounds the blah feelings to make everything even more blah

So, rather than succumb to such feelings, you can start by refreshing your life. Everyone has something that they feel could be the difference for them, so here are some useful tips to refresh your life and get yourself back on track.

Move Away

It’s a bit of a cliche, but there is no more certain way to refresh yourself than by moving away, and with so much potential out there, you’ve got plenty of destinations to choose from.

You can move across the country, or if you want to take it a step further, consider looking for a property in another country altogether. Depending on where you go, you might be able to buy Old Klang Road condo options, or you can build yourself a beach hut and enjoy the lapping waves.

It’s not as easy as merely packing up and catching the next flight out, however, so moving away for a refresher should only be something you’re sure you want to do.

Treat Yourself

If you’re not prepared to leave the comfort of your hometown, then there’s always the option to treat yourself. Sometimes, it’s not wholesale lifestyle changes that we need to get us back on track, but instead just showing ourselves a little self-love and gratitude.

If there’s anything at all that you’ve had your eye on (that won’t drastically affect your finances, that is), then now’s the time more than ever to treat yourself. Material things shouldn’t be the be-all and end-all of happiness, but they can certainly help in certain situations.

Chase a Dream

Everyone has a dream, and if you think the reason for your rut is that you feel like you’re spinning your wheels at work or in life, it’s time for you to chase your dream and see what happens.

We all have passions that we use to unwind, whether it’s painting, writing, or creating eccentric crochet miniatures of our friends and family. You may have even had dreams of making money from such passions and hobbies. Perhaps now is the time for you to see whether you can make money from them/

Start an online store, send your work out to the right people and see what happens. Even if you don’t get anything back, you’ve at least taken that first leap, and that’s a lot more than others ever do.

Clear Out Your Junk

As the years go by, you accumulate clothes, shoes, books, and impulse buys that you cannot even remember purchasing. While some of these items will become something you cherish forever, most of it will end up becoming junk.

If you’re looking for a surefire way to refresh your life without doing much at all and also help out people in need, then clearing out your junk is the way to do this. Going through your wardrobes and closets and picking out things you will never use again is an excellent adventure in catharsis. It helps lift your mild hoarding issues from your shoulders and allows you to enjoy a tidier and more organised house.

Hit the Gym

If you’re in a rut, hit the gym. That’s what everyone says, right? Much like starting anew elsewhere. Exercise to get over your hump is a cliche, but it’s a cliche for a reason. Working out, whether that’s lifting weights, yoga, or going for a run can help bring some routine to your life. It gives you something to do, even if it’s only for half an hour, and it gets you into shape in the meantime.

Rather than sit on the sofa watching TV or scrolling absently through your phone, using exercise as a way to get back on track will come with more benefits than you might expect. You will feel healthier and more energised, meaning you will likely be more motivated to explore other possible options to refresh your life.

Refreshed

It’s not natural to stagnate in life, and you should always be looking for ways to evolve and refresh yourself. For some people, this means starting a new life on the other side of the world, but, of course, this isn’t for everybody. Because of this, it doesn’t matter how you refresh your life, as long as you do it and do it for you.

How are you giving yourself a refresher to get back on track?
