My Visit to Barcelona

Thursdays are all about memories. So I am throwing it right back to when I visited the beautiful city of Barcelona in 2012. I always wanted to explore Spain, so when I had the opportunity to visit Barcelona, I was super thrilled. Barcelona is such a beautiful city with so much history and a rich culture. It is definitely a city I would like to visit again with the kids in tow this time.

Visiting Spain was a dream come true. It was on my bucket list for years so making it happen was so cool. The trip happened pre kids and pre blogging, so I never really blogged about the trip. Which is why you are reading this travel blog post now.

The trip to Barcelona happened in my young and free days. I was determined to see as much of the world as I could see before starting a family and it happened. I did get to see quite a few cities. Now that the twins are older, I have slowly gotten back into travelling and I can’t wait to see some more cities.

I have a few cities I plan on seeing in the next couple of months. Some Spanish locations are high on my travel list and I am looking forward to ticking them all off as done. I am yet to visit any of the Spanish islands so they are definitely on my travel bucket list. One island I need to visit is Tenerife. It is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands and I have heard amazing things about the Island. I have been looking online for Cheap Tenerife Holidays 2018/2019 and I have found some very good deals. Hoping to make that happen one day.

My Visit to Barcelona

Back to my visit to Barcelona many moons ago. We stayed at NH Hotel Cornellá for 3 nights. It was a lovely hotel with good customer service. I remember it was right in front of a Chinese restaurant that came in very handy.

The trip was fun. We visited a lot of tourist attractions – Barcelona Stadium, Seafood Market, Shopping malls and more. We hopped on the Red Bus Tour, which took us all over the city with running commentary. It was a lovely bus ride and we had a good time exploring the beautiful city and soaking in the culture. We even got on their own version of London Eye.

6 Travel Tips for Frequent Travellers

When it comes to travelling, there are so many tips out there that are enough to keep you overwhelmed. Even if you had the opportunity to travel regularly, there are some things that you tend to leave out. This has happened to me on several occasions. However, as I kept travelling I started to get the hang of it. For me, going on holiday is all about relaxation and tranquility and I always make plans to ensure that is what I get. I like the idea of lovely weather, an inviting beach, and a lovely hotel with balcony. To ensure you have an enjoyable holiday, it makes sense to have a good plan.

Travel Tips Image

In my travels I discovered quite a number of travel tips that have proved to be helpful. And I know they will be useful to you, especially if you’re a frequent traveller. Here are 6 handy travel tips to guide you in your journey.

  1. Have an electronic copy of your travel documents

This nifty trick can save you from a lot of trouble. You can never predict what could happen on your trip. Your travel documents might get misplaced or you might forget the documents at home.

Have a PDF format of all your travel documents like your travel itinerary, boarding passes and even a scanned copy of the face page of your passport. You can store all the documents in a flashdrive or on the cloud like on iCloud, Dropbox or Google Drive.

  1. Pack some food along with you before you travel

Airlines are decreasing their supply of food. Maybe it’s because they try to cut costs to have more pocket friendly air fares. Sometimes before the air hostess comes to the middle of the aisle the food is almost done.

If you’re a vegetarian or you eat only kosher meals, it may be a bit of a challenge to get that on the airplane. Aside from that sometimes airplane food doesn’t particularly taste the best.

What I do before my travels is to pack something with me just in case I get peckish or the food is not too good. At least I wouldn’t get hungry on the way.

  1. Have a packing list

Have you ever had that nagging feeling that you forgot to pack something? It can cause a lot of tension especially when you’re just about to enter the aeroplane and you’re still not sure if you packed everything you need.

To clear all doubts, write a list of things you need to pack for your trip. Make sure you write your packing list at least 2 days before packing. This will give you enough time to figure out if you need to write anything else on your list. It will also prevent you from packing in a rush too.

Let your packing list be the last thing you keep in your bag so as to give you a chance to double-check everything before leaving the house and when you’re travelling back home.

  1. Pack a spare outfit in your carry-on bag

When you’re travelling you need to be prepared for any eventuality. One of the common mishaps is your luggage going missing. If your luggage is missing your clothes go along with it too.  Although the airport authorities are able to bring your luggage back it may take some time before that happens. So pack a change of clothes in your carry-on bag just in case something happens to your luggage.

  1. Read about the place you’re travelling to

When you’re going somewhere new, it’s best to arm yourself with as much information as you can about the place you’re traveling to. Research on the customs and cultures of the locals in the area as well as nice places to visit when you arrive.

  1. Be polite

Having good manners goes a long way when you’re travelling. That’s why I saved the best for last. You’re going to meet a lot of new people when you travel so it is always good to be kind, tolerant and polite to them. You could make some friends along the way.

Making Sense Of British Culture As A Visitor

If you recently arrive in the UK and you are trying to understand how to fit in better, it might at first seem as though you have a lot of work to do, with regards to the British Culture. There are many aspects of any culture which you will need to try and understand if you are keen to fit in well. And it’s hardly surprising that it will usually take some time to get it down pat. However, by focusing on a few key areas in particular, you should be able to ensure that you find it easier to fit in. And so enjoy your time in Britain all the more – whether you are only staying temporarily, or hoping to remain in the long term.

Language

Even though many people around the world speak English, the truth is that the English which is spoken in one place might well differ profoundly from the English spoken in the language’s motherland. Add to that the fact that even in Britain the language is forever changing, and you can appreciate just how hard it can be to learn how to speak the Brit’s version of modern-day English. If you take a look at this article on 10 Bizarre English Sayings and What They Mean, you will start to see how some of the lesser-known proverbs can easily trip you up. The best advice here is really just to pay close attention to what people are saying, and in time you will find you pick it up. You might even choose to take an evening course in English, especially if your English is currently not quite up to scratch.

Humour

One of the first things that many visitors remark on is the strange and unique sense of humour which the British people tend to have. In one sense, this is something that Brits are known for all over the world, and it can be infamously difficult to try to understand why they find certain things funny. Essentially, there is an undercurrent of sarcasm in almost all of the British humour. This is often twinged with an element of dry wit too. It might take some time to learn how to be funny in the British way – but in the meantime, just try to enjoy it. And don’t be surprised if one or two things sound a little strange.

Queueing

Much is said about the British ability to queue, and actually it does turn out to be true that most Brits are concerned with proper queueing technique. Sometimes, a cliche really does fit in with the reality, and this is one of those times. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself committing a queueing sin while you are still getting used to the culture. And try not to be put off if someone chastises you for it. All visitors will find they have to go through this period of difficulty before it becomes second nature to them.

All in all, you should find Britain to be a welcoming and diverse land full of possibilities. In time, you should feel able to feel perfectly at home in these Isles.

What do you think of the British Culture?
