The Style Icon: Daisy Lowe

Daisy-Lowe-2013-Elle-Style-Awards-

Tis is the season to be stylish, so a Style Icon post is Christmassy enough right? Yes, I think so. The festive season is almost here, so now is the perfect opportunity to play dress up. The 26-year-old British model – Daisy Lowe, is always dressed to impress so she is crowned the Style Icon of the Week.

Her quirky fashion sense is on another level, but very accessible at the same time. Her style is a mixture of vintage, high-street and high-end pieces and accessories, and that is what I LOVE about her. She can look amazing wearing an Alexander McQueen dress, and look as good rocking a Coast dress. She wears her clothes; the clothes do not wear her!

This Style Icon is an inspiration to everyday people like us. She inspires me to own every look I wear. Her great style could be as a result of her rock and roll background, or as a result of being BFFs with Alexa Chung, the Style Queen, these best friends do think alike. I have a serious girl crush on these two models, their style fascinates me. Do you feel the same?

Speaking to Femail about her amazing wardrobe – ‘I’m crazily organised with my wardrobe. Everything is hung in categories: dresses, jackets, shirts, skirts and trousers are all hung in order, and they’re then hung in colour order too so that when I’m looking for something I know exactly where it is.’

I wish my wardrobe was that organised, Daisy Lowe definitely knows what she wants as far as fashion and style is concerned, and her style game is epic. I am loving the way she loves her cool, monochrome pieces. This pretty woman is the definition of STYLE.

The Style Icon: Bridget Sojourner

This stylish 77-year-old great-grandmother, Bridget Sojourner is the topic of discussion today, she is the Style Icon. This woman is the truth, I stand in awe of her style.

I love her quirky/playful sense of style, I love the way she loves life, I can see that just by looking at how she combines her pieces and accessories. She is like a breath of fresh air, easy on the eyes.

Bridget Sojourner is a woman I would like to describe as an Advanced Style Icon. The fact that she is not afraid of colour is a big yes-yes in my books, sometimes a bit of colour is all we need, and Bridget shows us how to do just that in a fun and fearless way, regardless of how old we are.

Her style is a mix of charity shop and vintage finds with bright colourful, fun accessories. The great-grandmother-of-three from Greenwich looks this stylish on a shoestring budget of £100 per week, and she still looks like a million dollars. She doesn’t spend more than £3 on a piece, now that is something. I would love to go shopping with her.

Here are some of her famous quotes:

“Wear orange, pink, yellow,” says Bridget, “sometimes all at the same time. In older age, you don’t want to blend into the background. Keep on standing out. Older people often feel they’re finished so they fade away.”

“I’ve always loved jumpsuits and now they’re very fashionable again,” says Bridget. “I find that I love a certain style and then it is suddenly back in fashion.”

“I have always dressed like this,” says Bridget. “When I was in my twenties, everyone used to stop me in the street and gush, ‘You look marvellous!’ But as you grow older, a lot of women don’t like dressing up. They should – it’s still fun.”

Style Icon: Jidenna

Jidenna-2015-BET-Awards-Style-Picture

The Classic Man aka Jidenna is the Style Icon for the week, and that should come as no surprise because this dude got style. He wows me every time I see him.

I love the fact that Jidenna is so confident in his skin, he dresses the way he wants, regardless of what is in vogue and he always looks amazing. He has this ‘old school’ vibe I love, and that should come as no surprise since most of his pieces are vintage or custom-made, Whippa Wiley, his manager and creative director, co-designs most of his pices.

Jidenna’s style icons are Malcom X, Ozwald Boateng, and Janelle Monáe, and I can see a lot of their sense of style in him.

Here is an excerpt from an interview he had with Esquire earlier in the year:

I think that necessity often times dictates creativity. I used to go thrifting because I couldn’t keep up even with the hip hop fashion. A cap is $30, you can get a pair of jeans for like $100, and then some t-shirts cost like $50-60. I got tired of it so I started thrifting. Through thrifting, I found a lot of suits for very, very cheap and I paid tailors to customize them to fit me.

As that evolved, I started designing bespoke suits, but it all came out of not really being able to afford it as a young man and as a broke artist at the time. That’s the beauty of it though, when you don’t have things you make do with what you do have and create something special out of it.
