Fashion for Outdoor Events

Spring is here and it will be summer before we say BOOM! Summer is all about barbecues, picnics and loads of outdoor events/activities. It is usually a busy time of the year and I really can’t wait for all the fun the season brings.

When it comes to dressing for outdoor events, we have to pay special attention to our clothing and accessories to ensure they are fit for purpose. Fashion for the outdoors is all about wearing the right outfit for the event. Being outdoors for an entire event can be hard, depending on the weather and whether you like being outdoors or not.

Here are some fashion and style tips you may find handy –

If in doubt wear jeans

Jeans are great for outdoor events. You can easily catch me wearing a pair of jeans. They are practical, stylish and very functional. Jeans are great for picnics, summer barbecues and parties, You can hide grass and food stains easily on a pair of jeans. They are also very easy to glam up. You can style it with a glittery or over the top blouse for a more stylish look.

Layer like a pro

If you are going to be spending hours outdoors, it is best to dress up in layers, so you can put on and take off as needed. Styling your outfit with a light jacket or wrap cardigan on a summery day would work great. You could also go for a look with a camisole underneath. This helps for when it starts off being very warm in the day but becomes chilly in the evening.

Go for comfy clothing

When it comes to outdoor events, I like to think of comfort after layering. Comfort is very important if I plan to have a great time. I like to wear comfy pieces like light jeans, cotton tops, dark linen trousers, wide knee-length skirts and the likes.

Remember the accessories

For a summer day, I am always with a hat and a pair of sunglasses to protect my eyes. I can’t imagine attending an outdoor event without them.

Go elegant to the Races

If going to the races is on your agenda this summer, make sure you have your elegant outfit ready. It is all about the glamourous dress paired with stunning heels, and hat/fascinator. Ensure you dress to look the part.

Style your footwear smart

Ensure you wear the right sort of shoes and make sure you can work in them. I remember wearing a lovely strappy sandals to a summer wedding a few years ago. It was done outdoors and I struggled to walk on the grass. My heels kept digging into the muddy grass. It was a horrible experience. You don’t want to find that you are struggling to walk in your shoes on the day. A way to get around this is to wear comfy shoes for the location of the event. A more structured heel or wedge would have been ideal for me. Also, it makes sense to have a pair of flats in your bag for when your feet need it.

Use Klarna Wisely

Klarna is one of the best things about shopping at ASOS. If you don’t know what it is, essentially it is a service used by ASOS and other brands to allow you to have 30 days to pay for the product your purchase. So, if you’re struggling towards the end of payday but really need that new dress, Klarna to the rescue.

You have to remember however to live within your means. If you know you’ve got a busy month next month, then maybe those £50 boots aren’t the best idea. It may feel like free clothes, but eventually you have to pay! If you’re struggling to understand how Klarna can benefit you, then you can get in touch with ASOS customer services team.

Sort by Size

There’s nothing worse than finding that perfect dress, and they’ve run out of your size. You can use the sort tool so that the results only show what is actually in stock in your size, to save yourself from the heartbreak.

The great thing with ASOS is they stock a whole variation of sizes, with a tall section and a plus-size section available if needed. It’s always a good idea to order a couple of different sizes to try on, as you can always send the wrong size back free of charge. You have a month to make sure you aren’t charged by Klarna.

Stick to your Budget

Not everyone can afford a new £100 pair of trainers, so make sure you know your budget before you go in. Maybe switch the range from low to high, starting with the cheaper items and working your way up. There really is some gold dust in the cheaper items, and it often brings up the sale items.

Don’t rule something out just because it’s cheaper than the budget you’ve set, you can either use it for an accessory or save it for next time!

They are some of our top ASOS shopping tips, if you take these on board before heading to the ASOSD website you are sure to find the outfit of your dreams.

Style tips for your next date night

*Collaborative post.

It can be difficult to decide what to wear for a date, especially if you’re doing something new. Whether you’re heading out for a romantic meal or spending more time together outdoors, we’ve come up with the ultimate style guide for 2019.

Watching a film

Heading to the cinema is one classic date that many of us enjoy. Of course, you still want to make an effort for the big day, but you need to be comfy when you’re snuggling during the film.

Jeans and heeled boots are a perfect option for this type of date. Pair your black skinny jeans with a bright Bardot top and cute tote bag (perfect for hiding snacks as well as looking stylish!). Bring some colour to your outfit with animal print ankle boots or chunky printed scarf.

Grabbing some food first? Choose something dressier like a loose-fitted T-shirt dress and over-the knee boots.

Romantic walk for two

Explore the outdoors with your other half. Of course, you can expect lower temperatures in the winter, so you need to wrap up well!

Prioritise practicality when it comes to exploring outdoors. Add layers to your outfit with a cosy fleece, padded puffer jacket and a cute bobble hat. If you’re planning on going out to lunch on your way home, consider wearing a dressy top under your layers, just in case your other half wants to snap a photo of you as a memory of your perfect day.

Dining out

You deserve to go all out every so often with a fine dining meal! It might be a restaurant that you and your other half have been wanting to visit for a while, but you’ve been saving it for a special occasion. With some fine dining venues operating a strict dress code, what should you wear?

Dress formal in one of your floor length dresses. Many women go for a fancy look when they’re heading to a posh restaurant so it’s unlikely that you’ll look out-of-place. If you feel overdressed, pair yours with flat shoes and a short jacket. Alternatively, you could pair a midi dress with heeled boots and a stylish clutch. Go for a statement print and flirty frills to channel date night vibes — but remember to avoid overly bright tones.

A few drinks

There’s nothing better than letting your hair down with your other half over a few drinks — what should you wear?

Channel romance and love vibes with a pink mini dress, scarlet lacy bodysuit or a bold ruby-coloured jumpsuit. Or, stay classic in a LBD and accessorise by adding a pop of colour to your outfit with red accessories. Elevate your ensemble with statement stilettos or barely there block heels. Finish the look with dainty jewellery such as heart-shaped earrings and a pendant necklace.

Staying in

Save your money and have a cost night in for two. Think a candlelit home-made meal for two followed by popcorn and your favourite film. You can still dress up though, even if you do want to get changed into your pyjamas straight after dinner!

Maximise comfort levels since you’re in the house! You could opt for an accordion midi skirt, paired with an off-the-shoulder crop top. Or, choose an unstructured jumpsuit that’ll look great if you decide to head out after eating!

There’s no need to stress about your footwear here so accessorise in other ways with hooped earrings and a matching bracelet.
