6 small changes to make the home more eco-friendly

*Collaborative post.

Autumn is here and the weather has started changing. The cold is slowly creeping up here in Cheshire. Some days are colder than others. We have even had our heating on for an hour on very cold days. The change in weather has reminded me to start getting ready for winter. It can get really cold where we are and it is always best to make the home more eco-friendly and ready for the colder months. Having an eco-friendly home helps create a sustainable environment and does wonders for your bank balance too!

Here are 6 small changes to make the home more eco-friendly –

Install a smart meter

Heating is one of the biggest ways we use energy. Which is why installing a smart meter is really important. We got our smart meter a year ago and it has seriously helped us monitor our energy usage and keep our energy bills low. I love that I can see how much we have spent on gas and electricity daily, weekly, and monthly. It allows us to budget and reduces our energy consumption. Once you install a smart meter, the way you use your gas and electricity will change for the better.

Insulate your home

The best way to improve your home’s energy usage is to make sure you don’t use as much energy to begin with. This is where insulation comes in. Good insulation helps retain the heat, which means you won’t have to put on your heating as often. You can also look at installing Aluminium Windows for your home. Aluminum Windows allow your home to remain eco-friendly by retaining the heat.

Get a water filter

I stopped buying bottled water years ago when I got a water filter. Having a water filter has helped us stay eco-friendly at home, and I find that I am now drinking more water which is amazing.

Double glazed french doors

Having double glazed french doors is great for retaining the heat. They also create an illusion of a bigger room with the extra natural light. If you are planning home renovations, installing double glazed french doors should be on your list if you don’t already have them.

Line-dry your clothes

We have never had a tumble dryer. I am not into tumble dryers at all because I believe they damage the clothes long term. Line-drying is what we do and it works great.

Fill up your washing machine and dishwasher before running them

Filling up the washing machine and dishwasher before running them means you don’t have to use them so frequently. I always wash at maximum capacity. It is great for the environment and my wallet.

Self love is the best kind of love

*Collaborative post.

Loving ourselves unconditionally is really important. These days, it is so easy to compare ourselves and our lives with that of others. Social media makes it dead easy to scroll through the parts of our online friends’ carefully curated feed and wish our lives were as perfect as their lives. We see their perfectly filtered faces and bodies, and we wish we looked as good as they look. It is all nonsense. Social media is purely entertainment for me. I do find some of it informative but I know it is the curated life of others and not really the reality for many. Which is why I take what I see with a pinch of salt and focus on me.

Self-love is the best kind of love

Once you love your imperfect self unconditionally, you become free, free to just be you. You won’t obsess over what your online friends are doing with their lives or how perfect they look because you will be too busy living your imperfect life perfectly. We are all beautifully and wonderfully made, and we have our own uniqueness that makes us special. Focusing on that and loving every aspect of ourselves is how to fall deeper and deeper in love with our life.

Filtered lives online are becoming trendy. Many people feel like everyone else is living their best lives apart from them, but that is usually not the case. You never know what is really going on in the lives of others. What you see online is the version they are willing to share with their social media followers. It may not be their reality, which is why you should not envy others because you never really know. Instead, focus on you and shower yourself with love.

Self-love tips

Here are 4 self-love tips you may find very useful –

Embrace your quirks and all

We are all very special and we have certain aspects of ourselves that are uniquely ours. The foundation of loving yourself unconditionally is to embrace all parts of yourself. Most times we may be tempted to dumb down our quirks in other not to stand out too much but we should really be doing the opposite. For instance, if you are registered on dating websites, putting your quirks out there would make it easier to find your perfect mate.

Live intentionally

Now, this tip is a big one for me. I find that it is super easy to just take each day as it comes and not aspire to do anything ‘major’ with your life. Not living intentionally will do you no favours. You should aim high, dream big, and live every day intentionally.

Forgive yourself

Many of us would have made mistakes (or what we call mistakes) over the years. It is normal and all part of growing up. Forgiving yourself is really important when it comes to learning to love yourself unconditionally.

Set boundaries and protect yourself

With self-love, you need to set boundaries with others. Having healthy boundaries would protect you physically, mentally, and emotionally. You don’t want just anyone to have access to you or live in your head rent-free. Also, setting boundaries would help you say no when you need to say no, and get rid of people who do not want the best for you.

The Vegetarian Lifestyle

I recently wrote a blog post about how my diet and body has changed massively in the last few months. Some weeks ago, I wasn’t sure where my new diet would fit in but now I know where I fall in nicely. I am a vegetarian. This new way of life wasn’t planned. It was something I ever even considered until earlier this year. Although I was never really a meat-eater. I did like the occasional chicken, beef burger, and the rest. My body and my food cravings started changing this year and I just found myself going off many things, including meat. It all happened naturally and I am very happy and comfortable with my new way of living. The Vegetarian Lifestyle Picture

The Vegetarian Lifestyle

Being a vegetarian simply means I don’t eat meat or fish. I take the occasional eggs and dairy products. Sugar is completely off my diet. So no soft drinks at all, and no sugar in my cappuccino or anything else. So far so good, this vegetarian lifestyle is working perfectly for me. I feel and look great. I can’t imagine not being a vegetarian now. It has taken me this long to find the diet that works for my system but I am glad I found it.

A diet like many things is a personal thing. I won’t advise anyone to get off meat and fish and eat the vegetarian way. It is something you have to decide for yourself. I know being vegetarian/vegan is quite popular now, which is one of the reasons why many more people are going along with it. The thing is if you do it for the wrong reasons, you will find yourself regressing very quickly.

You can read more about eating a healthy vegetarian diet on the NHS website. Loads of information on there to help you if you are contemplating eating the vegetarian way.

Thanks for reading, commenting and sharing. Have a lovely day.
