Are your skincare products ruining your skin?

My skin has changed dramatically since I had my babies. I had my twins 3 years ago, but my skin is still yet to go back to how it use to be. I have had a hard time dealing with the changes in my body and skin. The pregnancy and the parenting books did not prepare me for the many changes I experienced and still experiencing. I guess there is no way to fully prepare yourself for all these changes, because we all have different experiences.

I went many shades darker, and I am still dealing with a lot of hyper pigmentation. I battle with pimples and spots every now and again, and my skin has just been up and down. I took it as one of those things and tried not to worry too much about it, but it became more and more difficult to ignore.

I found it hard to understand how and why a 30 year old woman would still be dealing with teenage skin issues. I didn’t think twice about my skincare products, and the fact that I may have outgrown them. And that they may be the cause of my skincare misery.

As a beauty blogger, I review a lot of skincare products every now and again. Some of the products become products I swear by, some become products I use on regular basis, and some become products I never use again. I also have skincare products I have used for donkey years, long before I even thought of blogging, and still use, well not anymore.

I have used a particular brand (F&W) for my lotion, body cream, serum and soap for over 15 years now. I have used this brand in my daily skincare routine for this long, and only just realised that I have outgrown it.

All the products now do nothing for my skin, so I have stopped using them all, but I only just realised or should say, it only just clicked, that the soap I have been using exfoliates my skin, in other words, it is an exfoliating soap. Now this was ok to use 15 years ago, even though I believe exfoliating your face everyday is a no-no regardless of your age, but it is definitely not a great idea for a woman my age.

Here are a few reasons why you should not exfoliate your skin every day

  1. It would strip the skin moisture (lipid) barrier layer resulting in dehydration, dryness, flaking, redness and inflammation.
  2. It causes your skin to age quickly due to chronic and prolonged inflammation.
  3. It destroys healthy cells.
  4. It causes the stimulation of melanin activity possibly resulting in an increase of hyper-pigmentation/brown spots and patches.
  5. It could irritate the skin, leading to acne and other skin problems.

These are just a few of the reasons why exfoliating your skin regularly is a bad idea. I have had to learn the hard way, and my skin is still recovering from the many years of daily exfoliating.

I would advise you to go through your skincare products to make sure they are doing what you need them to do. I have done that and changed my entire skincare products. I will be sharing more on that in a few weeks so look out for the post.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day.

The Celebs Love The Laser Hair Removal Treatment

So I previously wrote about how to get rid of unwanted hair, if you missed that post, click here. Getting rid of unwanted hair is a grooming routine for most women and men. Everyone needs to get it done, it could be waxed off, shaved off, threaded off or taken off with a Laser Hair Treatment, whichever way, unwanted hair needs to come off some how.

The Laser Hair Removal treatment is the fastest, and the most effective way of getting rid of unwanted body hair, with long-lasting results. It is very famous with the celebrities all over the world and who would blame them.

Now let’s see how some of the favourite celebs do it.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is originally from Armenia, and we all know they tend to come with a lot of gorgeous thick, dark hair. Well, Kim had a Laser Hair Removal Treatment done, and her skin now looks hairless, and flawless. According to ‘Allure’ magazine, she had her arms, legs, bikini line, and underarms done, and she told the magazine – “Laser hair removal, to me, is the greatest invention of life. Laser hair removal should be a requirement [for hairy women, like my mom].”

Khloe Kardashian

Another Kardashian obsessed with the hair removal treatment is Khloe Kardashian, she followed her big sister’s footsteps and had her body hair ‘lasered’ out, including the hairs on her toes on their famous reality TV show – Keeping Up With The Kardashians, earlier this year. We all saw how happy she was with the results.

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham is another celeb in love with the hair removal treatment. She believes the procedure is simply amazing. She was quoted in the issue of ‘Allure’ magazine saying:

“Laser Hair Removal is amazing. You can go back for little touch-ups if you do see little hairs appearing, but I’ve been very lucky that I haven’t had to.” “That was one of the best tips that Eva Longoria ever gave me.”

The beautiful Eva Longoria is known for her immaculate appearance, flawless features and silky smooth skin. She is also a huge fan of the treatment.

Product Review: Dermalogica Precleanse, Special Cleansing Gel & Skin Hydrating Booster

I recently received some samples from the Dermalogical skin range and I am in a hurry to tell you all about them.

Dermalogica

I received a precleanse sample, a skin hydrating booster sample and a special cleansing gel sample. Now the deal is to apply the precleanse on a dry face, wet your hands and massage all over the face and neck, wash off, apply the special cleansing gel on a damp face (which should be right after using the pre-cleanse), dry the face and apply the skin hydrating booster to the dry parts on the face.

Before I tell you anymore, here is what Dermalogica had to say about each product:

Dermalogica Precleanse is the professionals deep cleansing weapon. It will help achieve an ultra clean and healthy skin working with your daily cleanser. It is suitable for all skin types.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel is a soap-free, foaming gel that is designed to thoroughly remove impurities without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture balance. It is suitable for all skin types.

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster is a super-saturated hydrating fluid that intensely moisturises even the driest of skin. It is suitable for dry skin types.

Now here are my thoughts:

PROS

  1. I found all three products easy to use. The instructions were very straight forward.
  2. The Precleanse and the Special Cleansing Gel deep cleaned my face without stripping off its natural oils. I had a lot of makeup on (see pictures below) and they took off every trace. These products clean the skin quickly and brilliantly.
  3. I love the smell of all three products, they all smell like a spa and God knows I am badly in need of a proper spa day.
  4. The Skin Hydrating Booster is perfect for my combination skin. It mositurises the cheeks and under my eyes which are usually the driest parts of face.
  5. All three products, left my face feeling and looking silky and smooth.

Here is the proof of how great these products are, I wiped my face with the wipe on the left after I used both the Precleanse and the Special Cleansing Gel. I wiped my face with the wipe on the right before I used both products, and I had a full make up on.

Can you see how much makeup the products took off?

CONS

  1. The 10ml and 7ml sizes are way too small and pricey at prices starting from £10.95, but I guess you get what you pay for, and these here are great products worth paying that much for.

I will recommend these products to anyone wanting a PROPER cleansing routine. Soap and water take off little or no makeup, and some makeup removers do not take off makeup easily. Most times, you would have to apply and re-apply a couple of times or use multiple wipes but this isn’t the case with the Dermalogica cleasing range. If you want, you can grab yours at Pure Beauty.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts? Drop me a comment, let’s chat.
