Product Review: Dermalogica Age Smart Overnight Retinol Repair

Dermalogica Age Smart Overnight Retinol Repair Image

I fell in love with Dermalogica products sometime last year. I tried a few of their products and they were seriously the best. So when the lovely people of Beautifully Gorgeous got in touch to offer me this product to review, I jumped at the chance. I have always wanted to try out this Dermalogica Age Smart Overnight Retinol Repair, which includes a Buffer Cream. I turn 30 next year, and I must confess, until very recently, I have been neglecting my skin, and just assumed I will be forever young. How funny is that? Thank God I have seen the light.

Since I started beauty blogging, I realised how much care and attention I should be giving my skin, and I have tried my hands on quite a few beauty products, and Dermalogica products usually stand out every time. Here is what Dermalogica has to say about this Age Smart Overnight Retinol Repair and Buffer Cream:

Turn back the clock with this powerful treatment cream. Targeting uneven skin tone, discoloration and wrinkles, AGE Smart® Overnight Retinol Repair reduces the appearance of skin aging overnight. It contains active microencapsulated pure Retinol, a powerful ingredient that helps boost collagen production and cell turnover. Comes with a moisturising Buffer Cream to help skin adjust to the Retinol.

Note: Should not be used less than 72 hours after exfoliation or 2 weeks before a holiday in the sun. This is due to the Retinol which can cause burning to the skin if not used as directed. Please refer to the instructions before use.

How to use

For best results, mix one part Overnight Retinol Repair with up to three parts Buffer Cream. Apply to cleansed skin at night, when cell renewal is at its prime. Once your skin is acclimated, you can use Overnight Retinol Repair alone, prior to or mixed with your prescribed Dermalogica moisturiser.

I have been using both products for a few weeks now, so here are my thoughts –

PROS

  1. They reduce laughter lines. I had an annoying laughter line in my mouth area that shows up every now and again, and the appearance has reduced since I started using both products.
  2. My skin feels and looks a lot firmer.
  3. No artificial fragrances, colours or parabens in both Dermalogica products.
  4. A little goes a long way, so this 30ml Overnight Retinol Repair, and 15ml Buffer Cream may look small, they will go a long way.
  5. My skin tone is improved. I had a bit of skin hyperpigmentation o my face while I was pregnant and some of it didn’t go away after childbirth, but since I started using these products, I can see a visible improvement.
  6. Both products accelerates the skin renewal process.

None.

I recommend the Dermalogica Age Smart Overnight Retinol Repair to anyone struggling with laughter lines, skin pigmentation, wrinkles, or anyone who may need a form of night cream. How to Keep Your Skin in Top Condition

Everyone wants perfect skin but with our busy lives, our daily skincare routines are often a case of a quick wash with soapy water and slapping on some moisturiser. However, different skin types require different levels of care. Here are the five golden rules of any skincare routine:

Choose gentle skincare products

Although this goes without saying, you should always choose gentle skincare products. While many of us may reach for a standard bar of soap, it can irritate the skin and cause our problem areas to become, well, more problematic. For example, harsh chemicals can dry out skin or even irritate it to the point where it overcompensates and starts producing even more oil.

Look for fewer ingredients

Cleansers, face washes and moisturisers with a long list of ingredients can mean bad news for your skin, as there’s more chemicals that could cause irritation. Generally, the fewer ingredients in a product, the more natural it is. Take the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant wash, for example. Available from Pure Beauty, it contains natural rice extract, enzymes and acids, as well as liquorice, aspergillus and grapefruit extracts. It’s perfect for smoothing and soothing your skin.

Always remove your makeup before bed

We all know we should do it, but how often do we snuggle down in bed to realise we haven’t taken our makeup off? Sleeping with your makeup on can cause problems with your skin, clogging pores and causing those pesky breakouts. No matter how much you want to stay in bed, if you want a flawless complexion, you should always wash away your makeup with a gentle cleanser. Apply a hydrating moisturiser before going to sleep too.

Stay hydrated

Of course, some of how our skin looks is controlled by what we eat and drink. Dehydrated skin can make your complexion look dry and flaky, so make sure you drink at least eight glasses of water each day. Try to keep your coffee consumption to a minimum too, as this can dehydrate you further and make your skin look lacklustre.
Think you can handle the dehydration? Don’t forget that it can make fine lines and wrinkles more prominent!

Pat your skin dry

So you’ve washed your face and completed the first step of your skincare routine. You reach for the towel and rub your face dry — STOP! By doing so, the friction of the rough material is actually damaging your skin. Instead, use a soft, dry cloth and gently pat your skin dry.

How do you keep your skin in top condition? Do you have any tried and tested skincare tip to share?

Product Review: Dermalogica Precleanse, Special Cleansing Gel & Skin Hydrating Booster

I recently received some samples from the Dermalogical skin range and I am in a hurry to tell you all about them.

Dermalogica

I received a precleanse sample, a skin hydrating booster sample and a special cleansing gel sample. Now the deal is to apply the precleanse on a dry face, wet your hands and massage all over the face and neck, wash off, apply the special cleansing gel on a damp face (which should be right after using the pre-cleanse), dry the face and apply the skin hydrating booster to the dry parts on the face.

Before I tell you anymore, here is what Dermalogica had to say about each product:

Dermalogica Precleanse is the professionals deep cleansing weapon. It will help achieve an ultra clean and healthy skin working with your daily cleanser. It is suitable for all skin types.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel is a soap-free, foaming gel that is designed to thoroughly remove impurities without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture balance. It is suitable for all skin types.

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster is a super-saturated hydrating fluid that intensely moisturises even the driest of skin. It is suitable for dry skin types.

Now here are my thoughts:

PROS

  1. I found all three products easy to use. The instructions were very straight forward.
  2. The Precleanse and the Special Cleansing Gel deep cleaned my face without stripping off its natural oils. I had a lot of makeup on (see pictures below) and they took off every trace. These products clean the skin quickly and brilliantly.
  3. I love the smell of all three products, they all smell like a spa and God knows I am badly in need of a proper spa day.
  4. The Skin Hydrating Booster is perfect for my combination skin. It mositurises the cheeks and under my eyes which are usually the driest parts of face.
  5. All three products, left my face feeling and looking silky and smooth.

Here is the proof of how great these products are, I wiped my face with the wipe on the left after I used both the Precleanse and the Special Cleansing Gel. I wiped my face with the wipe on the right before I used both products, and I had a full make up on.

Can you see how much makeup the products took off?

CONS

  1. The 10ml and 7ml sizes are way too small and pricey at prices starting from £10.95, but I guess you get what you pay for, and these here are great products worth paying that much for.

I will recommend these products to anyone wanting a PROPER cleansing routine. Soap and water take off little or no makeup, and some makeup removers do not take off makeup easily. Most times, you would have to apply and re-apply a couple of times or use multiple wipes but this isn’t the case with the Dermalogica cleasing range. If you want, you can grab yours at Pure Beauty.
