How to Wear Black in the Summer

Black is a staple in every wardrobe. There’s hardly anyone who doesn’t have a black outfit in their closet. It’s versatile and can be combined with other pieces to achieve that perfect look. For some people black is a go to colour.

Although some people are skeptical that black can be worn in the summer, I believe that black can work all year round. Black absorbs a lot of heat and it may be a little too much for some people. But there are ways you can make it work even in the heat.

Before we get into the styling tips for black coloured outfits here are some critical points you need to take note of.

Since black absorbs a lot of heat from the sun, you need to make sure that you stick to black fabrics that are lightweight. So stay away from velvet and wooly black fabrics. It will also be best to avoid leather trouser this summer and switch to something lighter or go for skirts instead.

Now that we have those important points out-of-the-way, here are some ways you can wear black in the summer.

  1. Combine black with patterns

The summer vibe is always fun, colourful and playful. Black on its own can be very formal, but when you combine fun patterns with a black top or bottoms they make a very flattering ensemble. It doesn’t matter what kind of patterns you decide to combine your black pieces with. You can go for florals, animal prints, polka dots or stripes. Black works with pretty much any pattern.

The beauty of combining patters with black pieces helps to tone down the patterns such that the outfit remains colourful but not overwhelming.

  1. Lace up

Lace gives off a flattering classy feel. Black lace tops looks amazing with a pair of jeans and even a nice skirt. This outfit would work well on a summer night out. You may also opt for a black lace dress to make that classy summer evening look.

  1. Black statement tees

For that laid black summer look a black statement t-shirt over a pair of denim jeans or shorts are all you need. Style them with a pair of sneakers to give your outfit a nice relaxed look.

Black statement t-shirts like band t-shirts or slogan tees are a great way to incorporate black into your summer outfits. To stay cool, combine them with shorts or a trendy skirt and a pair of sandals.

  1. Keep it flowy

Flowy outfits keep you cool during the summer. It may be a black flowy midi or maxi dress. To get more out of your black outfits, you can add more style with a black flowy skirt. Layer a cute colourful top with your black flowy skirt.

It’s not only skirts or dresses that can be on the flowy side. A black chiffon shirt or an off shoulder top or a top with an asymmetrical neckline aren’t only chic but cool for the summer.

Make sure you keep this in mind to balance it out. If you’re wearing a flowy top, pair it with skinny jeans, leggings or a pencil skirt. But if your bottoms are flowy, opt for a snugger top or crop top.

The other one is a short sleeved stretch materialblack dreaa I picked up in a sale for silly money. This one is a dress up or down type

I wear my variety of clothes at anytime of the year. I am not a person who does clothes for winter or summer.

I like to throw on the black casual dress and wear it with a pull over the head loose wearing crochet style (boho) top which I have in 3 colouea of pink, light green and orange. I tend to wear it with leggings and boots. I am also known to wear with a plain coloured sleeveless waistcoat.
