Here are the famous 4 shower sins you may be committing –

Staying too long in shower

This is the most popular sin many of us are committing on a daily basis. I understand how good a warm shower feels on a cold winter morning. But the last skin your skin needs is you taking forever in the shower. You should keep showers to 5 minutes or less. Any shower session longer than 5 minutes is not good for your skin. Prolonged water exposure can lead to dryness in the skin and hair. Hot water damages the skin faster and strips the skin off its natural oils, so the cooler the better.

Using too much shower gel/soap

I am so guilt of this sin and trying to be better. I use way too much shower gel because I love the fragrance and the texture on my skin. Using too much shower gel is not good for the skin. An average adult usually needs a 50p sized blop of shower gel to clean the entire body. That sounds very little, but that is really all we need. So think twice when next you are taking a shower. Using too much shower gel could lead to skin dryness problems like eczema and other skin conditions.

You don’t moisturise immediately

This is another shower sin I am sometimes guilty of, especially on a school morning, where I can get easily distracted. When our skin comes in contact with water, it loses moisture, which is where moisturisers come in. W should be moisturising our whole body as soon as we step out of the shower, where our skin is still damp.

Not scrubbing our feet

Many people are guilty of not scrubbing our feet. I think the feet is usually the most neglected part of our body, and it really should not be the case. The feet should be washed properly alongside the entire body. It should also be towel dried and moisturised once you are out of the shower. This would help keep athlete’s foot and other conditions away.

What do you think of these shower sins? Are you guilty of any?

  1. The feet one is mine! The others no. At one time I would scrub and clean them properly once a week on my pamper night.

I made more of an effort when I read up about the feet thing a while ago. Like many I thought they are getting washed in the shower so a quick wipe over is enough.

I sometimes use to much shower gel cos I have squirted to much out. I don’t do a long time in the shower so I am ok on that.

The only time I do is my once a week pamper when I put my treatment on shave etc. I have never been one for staying in the shower long.

I didn’t know there was a reason not too. It’s good to know. Good info Stella and thank you

    • Glad you found the post useful. I am so guilty of the shower gel bit. I am now conscious of my usage. Thanks Carol.

  2. If I have to claim a guilt it might be #4 but then I wear socks or home shoes because I dislike walking around bare feet and having to step on anything wet or dry and not matter the size. I scrub my feet every other day when I use sponge and I take my time to moisturize every part of my body. As a matter of fact, I moisturize one body part at a time starting from my feet and working my way up. Very annoying to my hubby, lol!

  3. I am guilty of staying on the shower too long. I love a long shower, 5 minutes doesn’t seem enough for me. If I’m running late I just turn the temp it to cold to speed myself along.
