The Autumn Style Edit: The Key Fashion Trends to Elevate Your Wardrobe

As the weather shifts and the breeze turns crisp, our wardrobe naturally evolve too.  Autumn is just around the corner, and it is finally time for the key autumn/winter fashion trends to take centre stage. Autumn is my absolute favourite season of the year. There is something so magical about that chilly-but-not-too-cold weather, the scattering of beautiful brown leaves, and, of course, the ultra-stylish, layered fashion trends that come with it.

If you are excited about the new season and looking to intentionally upgrade your style collection, here are the defining autumn/winter trends to look out for.
Rich Suede and Timeless Leather
  • The Ultimate Texture Play: Nothing says autumn luxury quite like the tactile combination of suede and leather. This season, these rich, heavy fabrics are moving far beyond the classic black biker jacket.
  • How to Wear It: Look out for oversized suede trench coats in deep chocolate browns, tailored leather midi skirts, and buttery-soft trousers. Investing in high-quality suede or leather pieces instantly adds depth, structure, and an effortlessly expensive feel to even the most basic everyday outfits.
Cozy, Oversized Knitwear
  • Comfort Meets High Fashion: Chunky, oversized knits are returning in a major way, proving that you don’t have to sacrifice warmth for style. From heavy cable-knit sweaters to sweeping ankle-length cardigans, texture is everything this season. Pair an oversized knit with slim-leg trousers or layer it over a fluid silk slip dress to master the art of effortless autumnal proportions.
Moody Corporate & Power Tailoring
  • Structured Sophistication: Corporate-inspired dressing is stepping out of the office and onto the streets. Think strong, padded shoulders, relaxed-fit blazers, and wide-leg pinstripe trousers. The colour palette leans beautifully moody—think deep charcoals, rich navy tones, and olive greens. It’s a trend that makes you look instantly put-together, whether you’re heading to a business meeting or a casual brunch.
Earthy, Grounded Tones
  • Nature’s Palette: The autumn/winter colour spectrum beautifully mirrors the changing landscape outside. While classic black and cream will always have a place in our capsule collections, this season is heavily prioritizing rich tones like terracotta, warm burgundy, deep khaki, and mustard gold. Monochromatic dressing in these earthy shades is a simple trick to make your outfits look incredibly cohesive and trend-forward.
Statement Knee-High Boots
  • Step Out in Style: Footwear is taking a bold turn this season with the resurgence of the structured knee-high boot. Whether you prefer a chunky flat sole for practical everyday wear or a sleek pointed block heel, a knee-high boot is a non-negotiable autumn staple. They look incredibly chic tucked into relaxed denim or peeking out from underneath fluid midi dresses and skirts.

Step Comfortably Into the New Season
The beauty of autumn/winter fashion is that it inherently invites us to slow down, layer up, and focus on quality pieces that make us feel confident and protected from the elements. By anchoring your seasonal look in rich textures like suede, reliable tailoring, and warm earthy tones, you can navigate the colder months in style.

Layering Tips for Autumn

It’s October and the layering season is now upon us! I love autumn a lot! It is one of my favourite seasons, especially in fashion and style. The weather is cool enough to still play around with pieces and layer nicely but allows you to show a bit of skin when required. Having said that, I am missing the sunny days already. It felt like summer just breezed past us. We blinked and the seasons changed…

When it comes to playing dress up, autumn is the season for that. Layering is the theme of the season and I have been busy in the last few days getting my wardrobe ready to slay. If you are wondering how to go about layering this season, here are some layering tips for autumn to help you hone your styling skills.

Keep it simple with a base, mid, and outer layer

There’s no need to overthink or overcomplicate things when it comes to layering. You need 3 layers (base, mid, and outer) to nail your look.

  • The base layer – this is the foundation of your look. For this layer, you could opt for a vest, camisole, or long-sleeve top. This should be comfortable and functional, and what you choose should depend on the overall look you are going for.
  • The mid layer – this piece goes over the base layer. You could go for comfy cardigans, light jumpers, knitwear dresses, and sweaters. This layer is important because it is usually the main character of your look. So pay extra attention to the piece you go for and ensure it looks the part.
  • The outer layer – this is usually the outerwear, so a well-tailored coat, or a padded jacket. Comfort is key here, so I always recommend stylish outerwear that is pretty and functional for utmost comfort.

Layering is super easy once you have different pieces in various styles and colours for each layer. Like with most things in life, less is more. You don’t have to go on a shopping spree to layer correctly. The first step is to have a look at the autumn/winter pieces you do have and shop to fill in the gaps in your wardrobe.

Also, you could wear some of your spring/summer pieces for longer by styling them as base layers in creative ways. For example, you could wear your light dress over a turtleneck sweater.

Whatever you do, the basic rule of layering is to keep it light and simple, as you stay stylish and toasty. Hope you find these layering tips for autumn useful. Happy styling!
