Get Yourself Ready for the Summer

So the Summer is almost upon us, and yet we are still so used to the gloomy weather, we aren’t even ready for the sun yet. But don’t worry, it’s not as difficult to prepare yourself as you may think. It’s actually very simple as long as you have the tools you need to stay fresh, flirty, and on fire.

You can expect to change your regular routine into something more fun and colourful now that the sun is making an appearance.

Here’s what you need to do.

The nails

You may still have that leftover burgundy covering your nails because there’s been no sun – making us all feel like we’re stuck in the Autumn/Winter season. But that just isn’t the case anymore, so get rid of that grungy shade and choose a lighter, more playful coloured nail polish to suit your environment. You can never go wrong with pinks, peaches, and oranges, whether they be pale or fluorescent, so don’t be afraid to command some attention. You will also want to make sure that your cuticles have been taken care of too, because people will notice and it’s never a good look.

The eyes

The fun thing about the Summer is that you don’t need to go all out on the eyes like you may have done a few months ago. A simple sheen or shimmer over the eyelid will reflect the sun nicely and give the appearance of your eyes being bright and present. If this is a little too subtle for you, you can add a slight flick at the end with some liquid eyeliner if you need a bit more drama. Or you can merely stick some lashes on without any other business going on. It will keep them looking open and sultry, without having to do much work.

The skin

Depending on your skin type will determine what you can do, but the lighter the coverage, the better. Bear in mind the weather will get hot and you may sweat. Now of course there are tricks for this with setting mists and translucent powder, but you might not want to be that heavy. So a simple BB cream is always nice, evening out your complexion without too much product. Understandably, some of you may not have this option due to acne or dark blemishes, but colour correctors can do a lot of the work for you so you don’t necessarily need a full coverage foundation.

The additions

Highlighter and blusher are absolute must-haves. Opt for a liquid highlighter rather than a powder. You will barely need any product and you can easily apply it with a fingertip and just dab it onto the tops of your cheekbones, the arch of your brow, down the centre of your nose, and on your cupids bow for a radiant glow. Pair that up with a little blush on the apples of your cheeks and you will be ready to hit the runway.

How are you getting your skin ready for summer?

How to Care for Crotchet Braids Bantu Twist

I have had my crotchet braids with bantu twist for over a week now and I have found it quite tricky to care for. This is my first time having this type of hairdo. I usually have crotchet braids on because I find them easy to install and gentle on the hair. It is a great protective style to rock so you can always catch me rocking some kind of crotchet braids

I have gotten a lot of complements thanks to my big hair. It seems you either love it or hate it with hairstyles like this. And I am happy to confess I love it. The hair is – Curly Afro Twist Crochet Braid Ombre Havana Mambo Synthetic Hair Extensions. I used 4 packs.

Don’t bother with a hair net or bonnet

I tried to pop my big hair in a hair net and a few bonnets but was very unsuccessful. It was way too big, so I wrap my hair loosely in a silk scarf for bedtime.

Tie nylon bag for shower time

I also tried popping a couple of shower caps on my hair for shower, but I couldn’t get any shower caps over. So I settled for wrapping nylon bags over my hair for shower time. Very unattractive but it does the work perfectly.

Oil and trim everyday

I oil my bantu twists lightly with hair oil. Any hair oil should do, and a little is all you need. I also trim all the dead ends every day, to keep it looking good. The major issue with bantu twists is the fact this hair is prone to having dead ends. So you have to pay attention to the ends and get the trimming right to having good-looking hair.

Mositurise your roots

The hair roots need to be moisturised everyday. I use a mixture of almond oil and water in a spray bottle to keep my roots moisturised. I also use this hair styling water to keep my roots healthy.

Overall, I like my bantu twist crotchet braids. It is a great protective style and it suits me. Having said that, it is a bit high maintenance. It takes me ages to get ready these days thanks to the time I spend getting my hair in order. All the time I spend on the hair is worth it in the end though.

6 Makeup Tricks That Make You Look Older and How to Avoid Them

The wonders makeup can do to your appearance! I’m still amazed when I watch the transformation makeup artists put their clients through with a touch of makeup.

There are so many tutorials out there that make re-creating the youthful look very simple. However, they do come with their mishaps. Often times such blunders can make you look a lot older than your age. Here are some makeup tricks that make you look older and how to avoid them.

Applying primer

Ever wondered what makes people’s makeup look dull after a long day? It could be because they are not using a primer.

Using a primer will help make your makeup last throughout the day. A good primer keeps your makeup as fresh as it looked when you started off your day. Without a primer, the makeup will wear away thereby revealing the imperfections such as uneven skin tone or fine lines.

Contouring

Contouring is a popular makeup trend as when done properly, it can make you look younger. However, when you overdo the contouring your appearance will transition from youthful to old as such contouring will only highlight your ageing lines. At the end of the day, too much definition isn’t good.

The best way to solve this is to always blend the contour to make it more natural. When you blend the contour in properly you will have that youthful appearance.

Highlighting

A beautiful glow is synonymous with looking young. Highlighting in the right places can make you look amazing. However, women often make the mistake in highlighting in less flattering areas on the face thereby adding more years to their appearance.

When highlighting, stay clear of the brow bone as that pulls down your eyes. Also avoid the crease at your eyes and the smile lines as that brings in a lot of focus to the wrinkles and fine lines. Instead focus the highlights in more taut areas of your face like your cheek bones and the bridge of your nose.

Applying mascara

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Mascara helps to show off the beauty hidden in your eyes as well as make your eyes appear larger and more alluring. It also helps to define the eyelashes, that’s why it’s good to put mascara on both the top and bottom eyelashes.

However, some women overdo the mascara on the bottom eyelashes. This immediately gives an illusion of having dark circles around your eyes thereby making them look older. When applying mascara brush it lightly on the bottom lashes.

Dark lipstick

Who wouldn’t want to wear the bold red lipstick? But the truth is that many women get it wrong and in the process apply too much lipstick thereby making it look so thick and unnatural .

To get this look right, line your lips with a lip pencil. Next, fill in the outline with a lipstick shade slightly darker than the lip pencil and then finish off with a tinted gloss. This sort of makeup would make you appear a lot younger.

Using eyeliner on the bottom lid

This is a trend that I have been seeing a lot on social media. Using eyeliner can make your eyes lively and brighter, however, your choice of colour can make a huge difference.

A black eyeliner on the bottom eyelid will make your eyes look smaller and it makes the creases around your eyes more visible.

To properly create that youthful look, switch from using black coloured eyeliner to a brown coloured one and finish off by blending in a brown eyeshadow from the inner to the outer part of your eyes. Depending on your skin colour you may decide to go for white or nude coloured eyeliner.
