Like many of you know, Fashion and Style Police started off as purely a fashion and style blog. Along the way, I wanted to incorporate other niches into the blog. I got bored just talking about fashion and trends. My life changed and I wanted to include my new interests into my blog. That is how the blog evolved into a lifestyle blog. I still write about fashion and style a lot, but now I am able to write about other niches I am passionate about like beauty, blogging tips, self employment life, travel and life as a twin mum. Having categories on the blog allowed me do just that.

There are so many reasons why you should have categories on your blog. Here are the main reasons I decided to switch up my blog with categories –

 

It allows me organise my blog posts

I use categories to organise my blog, that way I know where every blog post is and I can easily find it. It also means I can send out links to various categories to selected brands when pitching for paid work. Having blog categories has made my blog a lot more organised.

 

Blog categories allow me write more

Like I said, having blog categories allows me write about many more topics. I can easily do this when I categorise evert blog post. Without the categories, my blog posts will look all over the place. I currently have eighteen blog categories and I use every one of them regularly. Some I use more than others as expected, but it is the easiest way to run a lifestyle blog. I never run out of ideas with these many categories. You can see all the blog categories I use on the right hand side of the blog.

Blog categories help grow my blog as the category archives are very important for SEO. When you use blog categories properly, it can improve your search engine visibility massively.

I have been offering a blog coaching service for months now and I have gotten many clients already. The service is quite popular with new bloggers and I am not surprised. I wish I had this when I first started blogging in 2012. It would have made my growth a lot easier and faster. Back then there was no one to ask questions and many of us had to learn as we went along. Picking a blog name is one of the most important things you would do when setting up a blog. I remember when I was thinking of the best name for my blog. My goal then was to blog solely on fashion, but as the blog evolved, I started to write about other topics I was passionate about. I decided on naming my blog Fashion and Style Police because the blog was going to be about fashion and style. And adding police to the blog name made it more catchy. So I went with it and Fashion and Style Police was born! Looking back after 7 years, I don’t regret picking this blog name. I may have gone with a slightly different version, but this blog name still works for my blog content.

So how do you come up with a catchy blog name? Here are some tips for you –

 

Consider what the blog would be about

This will help you narrow down your blog name ideas. Ideally, the blog name should reflect what the blog would be about but you can decide to go for a name that means something to you. Your readers will get used to it and likely love it, as long as the next tip is followed.

 

Go for a catchy blog name

Catchy blog names are the best. You can look around online for inspiration or check out Thesaurus for fab ways to play with words. Your blog readers will never forget your blog if it comes with great content and a catchy name.

 

Go for a .com domain

I always advise people to go for a .com domain if possible. It makes the url flow easier and it helps your blog readers remember your blog name faster. Also, .com domains are more universally accepted.

 

Use your own name

If you can’t think of the best name for your blog, you could just name it after you. Many bloggers have done it and have become pretty successful.
